Those can be viewed in Full Preview without a noticeable loss in quality whereas the widescreen filter will lower quality quite a bit if you don't render. Andyby Andy Neil - Café LA Re: SUPER OT: DISNEY BUYS MARVEL for 4 Billion $$$... - 15 years agoQuoteThank goodness they have the sense that God gave a billy goat to leave that cash-cow alone. But I am sure they tried HARD at some point to meddle. Actually, it was the opposite. They hired John Lasseter from Pixar to meddle with Disney Animation. And after Treasure Planet, Atlantis, Home on the Range, and Meet the Robinsons, who can blame them. Andyby Andy Neil - Café LA Re: How would you do it- Screening from FCP - 15 years agoQuoteAlso, I don't think you can Print/Edit to tape if you don't have it hooked up to a deck. I specifically mentioned Print to Video, not Edit to Tape. In Edit to Tape, you need deck control. In Print to Video you do not. I know that PTV will abort if frames are dropped, but it will also prevent the OS or any other program from jumping into the foreground and stopping playback. If youby Andy Neil - Café LA Re: How would you do it- Screening from FCP - 15 years agoJust make sure the drive for your media is fast enough not to drop frames during playback. As long as your files don't need rendering, you should be fine. However, I feel I would be remiss if I didn't mention that it's not the best idea to use FCP as a playback device since there are many things that could happen to stop playback. For example, if another program opened up in the foreground wby Andy Neil - Café LA Re: SUPER OT: DISNEY BUYS MARVEL for 4 Billion $$$... - 15 years agoI just get the feeling that Disney's coming in at the 4th quarter on the superhero movie genre market. I feel that audience fatigue is settling in with this genre partially because Hollywood is saturating the market with them, and partially because name recognition is dropping with the general public as they make more and more obscure comics titles into films. Andyby Andy Neil - Café LA Re: video looks stretched - 15 years agoWhy 843x480? Isn't 854x480 a 16:9 ratio? Right click the Intro and make it First Play. Then go to the inspector and select Menu1 from the end jump menu. It might be forcing a Zoom display to the TV. What happens when you open the DVD on your Mac? Andyby Andy Neil - Café LA Re: using a white background for compositing - 15 years agoQuoteThe director insisted on a white cyc, so that's what we're dealing with. I love people like that. It just adds to the days I'm on the project. More business. Andyby Andy Neil - Café LA Re: Mixing v6 & v7 - If you have problems with v7, new ProRes family works in v6 - 15 years agoI believe my WSoD moment in FCP 7 was related to elements left over in the Library from FCP 6. Only after I removed all trace of FCP 6 from my new system did FCP 7 install and function correctly. Although there tend to be LOTS of different fixes for the WSoD (see Apple Forums for a VERY comprehensive thread), I feel like there is some kind of clash going on between the old and new suite and rby Andy Neil - Café LA Re: FCP7 image shift - 15 years agoThat's a good question. Personally, on my rig I use High playback and Full Frame Rate. I don't use the Dynamic playback ever. I'm also on the new Mac Pro. 8-core 2.26GHz with OS 10.5.7 and QT 7.6.2. I don't think what I'm seeing is much of anything. It's certainly not as strange as what Tom is reporting. I'm not sure what bar that is...somewhere in LA. I wouldn't call her "aggressby Andy Neil - Café LA Re: FCP7 image shift - 15 years agoStrange. I'm not getting anything like what you're seeing. I see nothing different when exporting from Canvas. I'm enclosing pics of what I see in the viewer (pic 2 is with the export dialog box open). Just slight degrading of the image in the edges, but the resulting export is fine. Before Export: During Export: Andyby Andy Neil - Café LA Re: FCP7 image shift - 15 years agoI noticed nothing in the Canvas. If the viewer is selected and I select Export/QT Conversion, the image in the viewer looks to become a little de-rezzed (somewhat blocky) while the dialog box is up, but afterwards the image returns to normal. The change is very small and I only noticed it because I was looking for it. The resulting file produced is not affected in any way that I can see. Iby Andy Neil - Café LA Re: FCS 3 may run on PPCs! - 15 years agoThe only annoying part is that the hacker will invariably still come here looking for a solution to whatever FCS problem they're having. Only thing is that you'll be 6 posts in before they drop the bombshell that they're running it on a Hackintosh. Grrr. Andyby Andy Neil - Café LA Re: FCS Upgrade Headache... - 15 years agoI did fix it, and I apologize if my last comments seemed unduly snarky. QuoteIf you don't agree, please feel free to ignore me. Oh, I ignore you quite frequently...except when Jeff agrees with you. Andy "This installation has a substantial dollar value attached to it." "You can BILL me!"by Andy Neil - Café LA Re: FCS Upgrade Headache... - 15 years agoQuoteYou "ported over" files from a previous system?? You didn't mention that before. That has everything to do with it. THAT is the #1 no-no in my book - always do fresh installs on a newly upgraded OS / machine. Re-read my 2nd post Joey. I DID mention it before. You must've been too busy taking umbrage at creating a new user for diagnostic purposes to have seen it. Well, at leasby Andy Neil - Café LA Re: FCS Upgrade Headache... - 15 years agoQuoteDid you totally uninstall it first? Well, since there doesn't seem to be program specifically designed for the new FCS I was forced to use FCS Remover designed for FCS2. However, it SEEMED to have uninstalled everything. However it did no good. I think I've ruled out FCS components causing the problem. There's something about the files 'ported over from the previous system that is caby Andy Neil - Café LA Re: FCS Upgrade Headache... - 15 years agoOk. Michael's idea has borne fruit. After doing a complete reinstall of the suite, I had the same problem. Therefore, I decided to try a new user. Lo and behold, FCP now works properly, but only for that user. So, somehow, what was brought over from the previous system is preventing FCP from operating properly. The question is, what to do now? I have no idea how to diagnose what it isby Andy Neil - Café LA Re: FCS Upgrade Headache... - 15 years agoTrue. But for a diagnostic test, it's certainly a good idea. Helps to exclude possibilities, or point to them. Andyby Andy Neil - Café LA Re: FCS Upgrade Headache... - 15 years agoYeah, prefs have been trashed for both apps. The only thing I can think of has to do with me using the Migration Assistant to move items from my previous system onto this new one. I didn't move applications because I thought that would break them, but it moved application support files. I don't know if it made a difference or not, but it's all I've got to go on right now. Andyby Andy Neil - Café LA FCS Upgrade Headache... - 15 years agoHey guys. I just bought a new computer and new version of FCS and finished all the myriad porting of info, and installation of programs. However, my installation of FCS seems broken and I wanted to get any thoughts from those who have upgraded already or those who worked with the beta to see if any of my issues have been noticed before. Actually, Avid does...or did have bkg rendering with Liquid which they acquired when they bought Pinnacle. It's interesting to note that two of the biggest advantages of Liquid never made it into the Symphony or Media Composer line. Background rendering and a GUI for mixing 5.1 audio. That sound GUI actually found it's way into Soundtrack (bby Andy Neil - Café LA Re: FCP 7: Motion 4 : Color 1.5 ect :-))) - 15 years agoJust saw this buried in the FCS release notes: Optical flow retiming improvements Motion 4 lets you perform optical flow retiming tasks more efficiently. Optical flow analysis is now automatically limited to just the portion of the clip you?re using. Now that's helpful. Andyby Andy Neil - Café LA Re: New Final Cut Studio released - 15 years agoCan I just say.....oooooh! Everywhere I looked there was another feature that I was looking for. For those of us who work with both FCP and Avid, I was especially pleased with the TC window, global transitions (only been asking for that since v3), and colored, rebuilt markers. Even the color-coded tabs will be a welcome addition to my tired eyes and give my FCP a little more Avid feel (forby Andy Neil - Café LA Re: Multi Cam - 15 years agoI'm afraid I don't understand your question. If you go into your User Preferences you can tell FCP to Warn After Capture instead of Make New Clip when it hits a timecode break. But that defeats the purpose of having cameras with Jam Synched TC. Your problem is with the way it was shot, not how FCP is dealing with the clips that you capture. Like I said earlier, I've been very happy with my old 20" Cinema Display. I haven't bought a new monitor in like, 6-7 years so I was curious as to what was out there. Andyby Andy Neil - Café LA Re: New Monitor to go with New Mac? - 15 years agoQuoteJeffIf you're doing work that's meant to be seen on a computer screen, then two things: First, I'm really, really sorry. And second, you have no control over anybody else's viewing environment anyway, so you'll just have to guess no matter what. I didn't say my work was meant to be seen on a computer screen. I said that it doesn't all end up on TV. There is print that I work with, and aby Andy Neil - Café LA Re: New Monitor to go with New Mac? - 15 years agoWell, I'm not all that worried about my footage. I was more concerned with building gfx and photos, neither of which I can monitor on my broadcast monitor. And then there's the fact that not all of my work ends up on a TV. Are you saying that for design purposes, contrast ratios don't really matter? I certainly found that tid-bit of 60hz material having a 16ms on/off time interesting.by Andy Neil - Café LA |
