Let me count the ways! - 16 years agoThe context: 74 min documentary finally (almost) picture locked. Need to give it to the colorist who is gonna color it in FCP so that I am not locked to the current edit. My thought process: Use media manager to give him the project, then he can give me back the project file which i can reconnect to the media on my local RAID. My biggest mistake: Not really knowing how media mnager worksby Gregory O'Toole - Café LA MXO and audio sync? - 16 years agohey all you MXO users out there.... seems to be pretty good concensus that it works well for low cost, color correct monitoring. I am tempted. However, if I go with the mxo, how do I monitor audio in a way that makes me feel confident in the audio quality and sync with the video? I am not impressed with the audio coming out of the line output, and i don;t want to buy a capture card just to moby Gregory O'Toole - Café LA Re: Image degradation - just want to check with you guys - 16 years agoman, 150 won't break me, 'cause i'm already broken! i hear ya on the dropouts thanks joeby Gregory O'Toole - Café LA Image degradation - just want to check with you guys - 16 years agoHi all! 75 min doc shot minidv on the panasonic dv100a colored corrected in FCP6, and rendered using the "render all YUV material in high precision YUV" I am outputting DVD's for festival submission, and want to have the film compressed by the dub house, bc they can do a much better compression in way less time than i can do in compressor. They charge 150 bucks more if i briby Gregory O'Toole - Café LA Re: Reconnect Issue -- only quote marks show up instead of file names? - 16 years agothis happens to me when i transfer files onto my xraid. What i found is that the file's datafork has gone missing, and so FCP no-longer knows what kind of file it is. hence, it cannot reconnect it. There is a free program called Filetype that will recreate a file's data fork. This usually solves the problem for me, though if there are a lot of different kinds of files it can be arduous. A producer i work for is thinking about getting some of the Caldigit HDpro raids. I read here that these drives do/will support sharing - ie: multiple users tied into the drives at the same time. He asked his tech guy about this, who said he hasn't seen it work yet. Has anyone used these drives in this way? thanks! gregby Gregory O'Toole - Café LA mysterious, unwanted conversions! - 16 years agohey all! So i am doing a twice-montly series of 6 minute shows for a corporate client. Everything is shot DVCPROHD 720p 23.98 960x720 HD pixels. At the end of each show, I do a "export...quicktime...current settings" to create a master for archival purposes. the weird thing is that the quicktime that comes out of episodes 1 & 2 are 1280 x 960, square pixels. It looks as though the company that I have been working for ove the last few months is going to do a short series for broadcast. Up until now it has been corporate video distributed via an internal sattelite feed. My producer has asked me what we need in terms of equipment to output broadcast quality programs.
