I thought it was bc i was manipulating a bunch of graphic files with lots of filters, but i have my ram in this order: 512, 512, 1gb, 1gb. should i change it around so that i have 512, 1gb, 1gb, 512? oh please please please let that be my problem!! gby Gregory O'Toole - Café LA scripting help? - 17 years agohello everyone! my producer wants a "scene slection submenu" which allows viewers to watch the movie one scene at a time, meaning that if they went to scene 2 from tjhe submenu, at the end of scene two it would bump back to the submenu, and not continue to play into scene 3. the only way i can think of doing this is have the entire movie on one track, and then the movie split into indby Gregory O'Toole - DVD Studio Pro Re: exporting graphic with alpha layer? - 17 years agowow, thanks for the responses everyone. Tom, it sounds like you have hit the nail on the head. i usually render first, then export, which would explain why some of the files i have done, using the same settings, came out correctly and other came out with a black screen. i'll get back into it and coinfirm this is the problem, but thank you so much for the tip!! it was turning into one of those hby Gregory O'Toole - Café LA exporting graphic with alpha layer? - 17 years agohellow everyone! i made a few lower thirds that i am trying to export as .mov (or seomthing) so that i am not bothered by really bad render issues. i put the text layers on a scratch timeline, export with "none" compression and check "millions of colors plus" and yet when i bring the resultant movie back into the orginal timeline, it includes a black background! i tried withby Gregory O'Toole - Café LA anyone going to the IFP this year? Anyone have any tips for newbies? - 17 years agoHello! My colleague and I are going to the IFP this year with our work-in-progress doc Sons of a Gun. We are green at the whole film market thing, and are hoping to meet up with other filmmakers that are going this year and hear any advice from experienced people. Soooo...anyone in the SF Bay area want to meet for a drink sometime before the market? Anyone anywhere have any tips for market newby Gregory O'Toole - Café LA Re: sata raid problems? - 17 years agoben thanks for the reply i will answer the questions tonight, but one quick response i have been consistently turning the raid on after the mac, and off befor ethe mac (properly ejecting it though) i will start turning it on before the mac and turning it off after. thanks check in later - i'll answer the other questions and thanks so much for the response!! gregby Gregory O'Toole - Café LA sata raid problems? - 17 years agohello everyone a while ago i bought a sata raid in a burly box with a Sonnet Tempo X4P PCI-X external 4 port host card. i put 4 320 gig seagte drives in it. it is currently 7% filled. since starting to use it my whole system has been much more unstable. on occassion (probably 4-5 times in last month) my entire system will crash when the computer tries to access files on the raid system (spinniby Gregory O'Toole - Café LA Re: fixing clipped audio? - 17 years agoheyb thanks for all the info, guys. talked with the producer yesterday, and he said, "yeah, i think the sound guy had the squelch turned all the way up - guess that was a bad idea." um, yeah, couldn't you hear that it was a bad idea? anyways, thanks for all the response. i thought this was the case, but wanted some reassurance before i told the client that he's hosed. thanks again!by Gregory O'Toole - Café LA Re: pop-up buttons? - 17 years agoadolfo thanks for the reply!! it was a big help - that is a pretty sweet feature. thanks again! gregby Gregory O'Toole - DVD Studio Pro fixing clipped audio? - 17 years agohello everyone! so a client handed me a bunch of tapes with terrible audio. all of the audio is clipped, even though the waveforms top out at around 8db. nevertheless, the tops of all the waveforms are flat -- which, to me, suggests that the audio was overmodulated somewhere in the recording system. so, anyone know how to go about fixing it? i am diving into soundtrackpro right now. i recentlyby Gregory O'Toole - Café LA pop-up buttons? - 17 years agohello! so a client wants the following: 1) at certain points in the dvd,, he wants a button to pop-up giving the viewer the option to navigate to a clip with additional commentary. if the button is not chosen, it dissapears after, say, 30 seconds. 2) he wants a small version of the menu to always be visible in the lower left corner, thus giving the viewer the easy and quick option to bounce arby Gregory O'Toole - DVD Studio Pro Re: Basic audio boosting crisis - 17 years agoAndy holy **** - thanks for that tip. i wasn't the original poster, but i run into this problem a lot and the sequence that you just outlined does some pretty amazing things!!!! thanks!!! gregby Gregory O'Toole - Café LA Re: Cross Dressing Transitions - 17 years agokevin thanks for getting back to me. yeah i know i can create my own transitions with filters and keyframes etc; i was looking for a shortcut. but, thanks for the response! gregby Gregory O'Toole - Café LA Re: Cross Dressing Transitions - 17 years agothanks for replying kevin by layered transitions i mean applying multiple transitition effects to one transition point. ie - i want wind blur transition AND push slide transition AT THE SAME TIME. if i select the transition in fcp and apply a second one, it just overwrites the first. thanks! gby Gregory O'Toole - Café LA Re: Cross Dressing Transitions - 17 years agois there a way to layer transitions?by Gregory O'Toole - Café LA Re: render hell - 17 years agoand the winner is.... Derek, number 2!!! you win the prize of the guy whose advice i should have followed to a "t." turns out, for some reason, the 4 matte clips were a problem. the clips were all created off of one template - ie: i created a 80percent opaque matte of the proper size square. I then copied this clip three times, and moved its center point to position the clips in theby Gregory O'Toole - Café LA Re: render hell - 17 years agojohn thanks for checking in. the clips disappear off the canvas viewer - ie, they are still on the timeline but do not appear in the canvas or external monitor. i know they are fine before rendering because they play back as a "preview" fine (ie - light green bar above the timeline). Also, before rendering, with the playhead stopped over any part of the "disappearing clip" eveby Gregory O'Toole - Café LA render hell - 17 years agohello everyone so i have what i think are corrupt render files. problem is, i can't get rid of them. dual 2ghz g5, 2.5 gb ram, external monitor i have a sequence that is a series of stacked clips, text, and mattes. total number of tracks about 15. a few of the mattes come in under text at an opacity of 80percent. prior to rendering, everything looks good. once i render, the matte clips never comby Gregory O'Toole - Café LA Re: G-Tech or not to G-Tech!!?? OWC? - 17 years agomarla so far i am happy with both. i have had the graids for quite some time and they have been incredibly reliable. my lacie's oftentimes do not mount without a lot of difficulty, but the only problem i have ever had with the graids is when my colleague was editing a project with the project file and media both on the graid. i use the graids heavily. the owc is new. i just got it recently primarby Gregory O'Toole - Café LA Re: G-Tech or not to G-Tech!!?? OWC? - 17 years agoi've got both a graid 320 and a owc 600. i would be happy to run a test of the two - if someone will tell me what sort of side - by -side test i should run gregby Gregory O'Toole - Café LA how do i matte a filter? - 17 years agolet's say i wanted to use a 4 pt garbage matte on the fisheye effect on my clip. ie - i want only part of the shot to be affected by the fisheye effect. how do i do that? i know that i could make two layers of the same clip, crop the top one to preserve only the area i want affected by the effect, and then apply fisheye, but it seems like there must be a way to use the matte filter on an effect.by Gregory O'Toole - Café LA Re: light shift during transitions? - 17 years agoderek no go. the weird part is that when the transition has not been rendered and i go frame-by-frame through it, there is no light shift. then i render it and the damn shift reappears. it was shot on betacam and is stored on an external firewire800. any chance that it is a data throughput issue? 2 streams of betacam over firewire800 = degradation? i'm grasping at straws here. thanks!! gregby Gregory O'Toole - Café LA Re: light shift during transitions? - 17 years agoderek thanks for the suggestion. just dumped the render files and re-rendered to no avail.by Gregory O'Toole - Café LA Re: light shift during transitions? - 17 years agoyeah, tom, that was my original thought. so i went up to the "render selection" and made sure "full" was selected. i did that despite the blue/grey bar which i am pretty sure means it is fully rendered. also, the sequences could be exported, which to me means they have been rendered. right? or am i missing some other way to make it render more fully? thanks!by Gregory O'Toole - Café LA light shift during transitions? - 17 years agohey all so i inherited a project with a bunch of rotating box transitions. during the transition the scenes are noticeably darker, and as soon as the transition ends there is a significant light shift back to normal. everything is rendered. i can fix the problem by keyframing brightness, but i am wondering why the the shift is there in the first place. anyone have any ideas? anything i can do toby Gregory O'Toole - Café LA Re: hollow audio? - 17 years agoderek i haven't really tried. i certainly don't intend to make the entire scene sound off mike and weak, but there are some instances in which i want to cut someone else's audio under a shot of someone "listening." if, however, i did want to thicken the bad stuff -- would i just do the reverse of what you suggested for thinning the proximity audio? thanks! gregby Gregory O'Toole - Café LA Re: sharing external drives? - 17 years agoyeah the ideal is to share files, not just duplicate (bc the school i work for doesnt have any of the money. i am already fronting my laptop, 2 extra lacie's etc). so, thanks for the input guys. gregby Gregory O'Toole - Café LA |
