I am only working in DV with no real outlet for HD in the forseeable future. I am kind of looking at the PD-170 because of it's similarity to the PD-150, but have not done any research into it. Is there a better choice in the $5000 price range? Barryby Barry - Café LA Re: OT: Job Listings - 14 years agoMy wife's band used to play a the "Top Hat" there in Missoula in the late 70's. I always wished that I could have gone there. Barryby Barry - Café LA Re: OT: Need BIG help with 3/4" JVC deck - 15 years agoHave you tried unplugging the machine? Many times, because there is power still going to the machine, the machine won't reset totally. Barryby Barry - Café LA Re: OT: Really working? Or just doing nothing? - 15 years agoAt my workplace, I get a new supervisor rotating through every two years or so. One of the first things I do is to get them to sit in on one of my edit sessions, so that they can see exactly what I have to do to have this much "fun". I don't hear too many "what is taking so long" comments after that. Sometimes but not often. Barryby Barry - Café LA Leopard and FCS - 15 years agoI was just about to take my proposal for a new MacPro up to my supervisor, when I started seeing comments about a change in QT in the new Leopard OS. If I read the comments right, FCP5.1 won't play well with the new QT. Is this true? Will I have to upgrade to FCP2 to insure compatibility? "Gee Wally", the Beaver said, "Dad's not going to like this". Thanx...Oh yeh...Hapby Barry - Café LA O.T. Adding Ram to MacPro - 15 years agoHi All, Still trying to configure a MacPro for FCP editing, and I am a little confused about adding ram. It was suggested here, not to buy ram from Apple as it is too expensive. I am looking to add 4 gigs and see that there are 2 configurations, 4x 1gig and 2x2gig modules. Considering that the MacPro comes with 1gig of ram (2x512MB), can either of these 4gig configurations be used with (in aby Barry - Café LA Re: What Graphics Card do I need? - 15 years agoI am using a G4 Quicksilver with an ATI Radeon 7000 which has a whopping 32MB, and I am using FCS with no real problems. I haven't tried to run Motion because I was told it wouldn't run, but other than that it seems to work. Barryby Barry - Café LA Re: O.T. New Monitors - 15 years agoThanx for your input gentlemen. I noticed that there are 2 versions of the dell monitors (20" &24" and don't know which you might be referring to. There is the regular and then there is the "Ultra Sharp". Which are you talking about. Barryby Barry - Café LA O.T. New Monitors - 15 years agoHi All, I am trying to upgrade to a new macpro desktop computer and almost forgot about monitors . I am currently running a pair of Apple 17" ADCs with my G4 Quicksilver. The Apple 20" flat panels seem a little expensive. I rembember a lot of love being given to Dell's a couple of years ago. My question is ...What would be a good monitor to use in dual monitor FCP edit system. Thby Barry - Café LA O.T. Looking to Upgrade my Mac - 15 years agoHi Everyone, I am ready to ask my employer for a replacement for my G4 Quicksilver, dual 1 gig. Below is the currently offered Mac Pro, to which I would add another gig of ram and a couple of SATA Hds for capture. But after your reply and a reboot I finally got it to work. Thank you very much for your time & expertise. Barryby Barry - Café LA reconnecting audio sent to ST with video in FCP - 15 years agoHello All, I have been sending some audio from FCP5 to ST for enhancement. When I finish making and saving the changes and return to FCP, the audio is separate from the video. Is there a way to lock the audio back to the video? Also, once I do reconnect the audio to the video (Gee, I hope I can), can I get the whole clip back into the browser for future editing? Barryby Barry - Café LA Converting sequence to .wmv - 15 years agoI am trying to save a 16 minute video as a .wmv file, using QT conversion settings in FCP export. It will only save 30 seconds of the sequence which is about half of the first clip in the sequence. Any ideas on what I am doing wrong? Is there a better way? Thanx Barryby Barry - Café LA O.T. diappearing usb - 15 years agoSorry this is off topic, but I was hoping someone may have run into this. My USB port on my G4, dual 1gig quicksilver suddenly stopped working. I used to be able to plug into my 17" LCD apple monitor and connect, then poof! (not literally) it no longer works. I have tried to plug directly into the back of the G4 still nothing. Could this be a os issue( hopefully) or could I have fried thby Barry - Café LA Re: Live Type Credits - 15 years agoHave you rendered the credits in LT? Just creating and saving your credits isn't all you have to do to get it into FCP. Barryby Barry - Café LA Re: room for fades - 15 years agoAre you sure that the two clips are butted up against each other? Sometimes, for some reason, the clip may not join with the preceeding clip, which will give you what you have described. Barryby Barry - Café LA The Song Never Ends - 15 years agoHi all, I have created this little ditty in STP and need a way to end the song besides just fading out. Are the any "resolves" hidden in STP that I can't find? Any ideas on how to bring the music to a logical conclusion? Thanx Barryby Barry - Soundtrack Pro Re: Convert Freeze Frame to Photoshop Elements - 15 years agoThanx Derek, That did the trick. I hadn't clicked on the "options" button and was getting png files. Barryby Barry - Café LA Convert Freeze Frame to Photoshop Elements - 15 years agoI have a couple of freeze frames that I want to enhance in Photoshop Elements. How can I do that? Barryby Barry - Café LA Re: Scratch Drive Replacement - 16 years agoWhat I meant by "Natively" is when you connect the drive directly to the motherboard. My G4 Quicksilver only supports drives under 130 gigs, when I tried to connect a 250GB drive "natively" only 128GB were recognized. When I upgraded to Tiger earlier this year, I replaced my 80GB system drive with a Seagate 120GB. Barryby Barry - Café LA Re: Scratch Drive Replacement - 16 years agoOlder G4's have a size restriction for drives mounted natively of around 128gigs. Larger drives can be used with a Tempo ATA133 PCI card. Barryby Barry - Café LA Re: freeze frame is shaky when I play on my dvd player - 16 years agoBe sure to watch it on a television or video monitor, NOT just your computer monitor. That way you will see the shakeyness and can apply and adjust the filters accordingly. It will also allow you to scrub through your clip and find the least shakey part of the clip. The shakeyness will occur in areas of movement, so try to find the part of the clip that has the least amount of movement. Barrby Barry - Café LA Re: O.T. Capturing Streaming Video for FCP - 16 years agoThanx for your responses. Anything has to be better than what I get using my $149 scan convertor. Barryby Barry - Café LA Re: Radeon 9200 PCI card in old G4 w/2X AGP? - 16 years agoAre you sure that this is a MAC compatable card? I didn't see a PCI version for the MAC, only for Windows. Barryby Barry - Café LA O.T. Capturing Streaming Video for FCP - 16 years agoHello All, Is there a way to capture and/or convert Streaming Video for import into FCP. I am working for a government agency and need to capture Streams for use in the classroom. We have permission from the presenting agencies to use these videos. Thanx Barryby Barry - Café LA Re: Importing an Photoshop .PSD file into FCP - 16 years agoI'm not sure about the layer issue but shouldn't the image size be either 720 x 547 for 601-NTSC 4:3 or 720 x 540 for DV-NTSC 4:3? Barryby Barry - Café LA Re: Healthier Mouse - 16 years agoI am using a Kensington Orbit Optical Trackball and really like it. I tried a Logitech trackball but found it too top heavy ... it was always tipping over when I tried to click with it. Barryby Barry - Café LA |
