Click HERE to register now Re: What is the best FCP tutorial? - 16 years agoI took a FCP5 training class from Larry Jordan and have been logging onto his trainings at Lynda.com which include DVDSP4 and Compressor. Larry does an excellent job and is easy to listen to. Barryby Barry - Café LA Re: deleting the .aiff file - 16 years agoThanx John, You are right, after encoding with Compressor, I get 3 files: .m2v, .ac3 & .aiff. So I am guessing that you mean that I can (and should) dump the .aiff file and still have a working dvd. I appreciate your response. Barryby Barry - Café LA deleting the .aiff file - 16 years agoHi all, I recently took an excellent FCP5 class from Larry Jordan, which was truely awesome. I have been going through his tutorial on Compressor and DVDSP on Lynda.com, and need some clairification. After compressing the files and bringing them into DVDSP the tutorial says to delete the .aiff file, but it doesn't say why. So I was hoping that someone could explain why this file might be expeby Barry - Café LA O.T. NAB/Supermeet - 16 years agoWill there be a "Supermeet" during NAB this year? If so, when? Thanx Barryby Barry - Café LA Re: Trying to reinstall QT 6 - 16 years agoHow big is your Canvas window. If it's too big your clips will stutter. Barryby Barry - Café LA Re: Hi-8 to FCP options? - 16 years agoThe advantage you will get by dubbing your Hi-8 to either Digital-8 or Mini-DV is that when you capture your footage into FCP you will be blessed with Time Code. This comes into play when you need to recapture a clip that has somehow met it's demise. If having TC isn't necessary then put your tape in a Digital-8 camcorder, connect to your computer with a firewire cable and set capture mode to Nby Barry - Café LA Re: re: Installing Tiger & FCS crossgrade package -- checking methodology - 16 years agoWhy not just buy a new system drive and install it there and keep the old drive with a working OS and FCP so that if your install goes sideways you have an emergency parachute. That's what I did, and when I couldn't get access to one of my media drives, I tossed the old drive in and fixed the problem. The old drive sits on a shelf just in case something goes wrong again. Barryby Barry - Café LA Combining Bit-Rates on the same DVD - 16 years agoHi All, I posted my question on the DVDSP forum, but noone has replied. I have 2 videos that I want to put on the same DVD. The first one is 90 minutes long, which I encoded (w/Compressor) at 120 min-Best Quality. The second is an 8 minutes video. Can I encode it at 60 or 90 minute-Best Quality or do I have to encode it at the same quality as the first video? To tide me over until I can get I-Life6, will I-Life4 work with the new OS. Barryby Barry - Café LA Re: Problems After Rendering JPEGS - 16 years agoFor what it's worth.....Have you tried to add a Guassian Blur to the pics? To me it sounds like the reason it looks good in preview is that the image is blurry (no fine lines). When you render the image the lines become sharp and thin. When zooming in or out in interlace the fields are alternating and very well might "strobe". Hope this helps Barryby Barry - Café LA Back to IDVD - 16 years agoI recently upgraded to FCS 5.1.1 and have been trying to create DVD's using DVDSP4 with mixed results. When I installed the Tiger OS I lost IDVD. Can I install ILife 04 with the Tiger OS and get my IDVD back? Oh and Happy New Year Barryby Barry - Café LA Length limit for project - 16 years agoI am just learing to use DVDSP4 so this is probably a real simple question. I have burned a couple of DVD's under 60 minutes with no problems. Now I have a program that is 90+ minutes and comes up as 5.9 gigs on the guage at the top of DVDSP4. Is 60 minutes the most that can be burned? Are there settings to change? I can't find them. Should I compress it using Compressor? I see that itby Barry - DVD Studio Pro O.T. DVDSP4 No slideshow icon - 16 years agoHi All, I posted this over on the DVDSP forum and got lots of looks but no response. I am new to DVD Studio Pro4 and am stymied by what I am sure is simple problem. Following a tutorial, I clicked on add slideshow which should add an icon in the "graphical interface". It doesn't. It does add the icon in the "outline " screen list. Any ideas what I am doing wrong. Barryby Barry - Café LA Re: LiveType Exports with black background - 16 years agoYou say: QuoteI tried to Import but the file can't even be selected Did you render the project. Just making a page and saving it doesn't complete the process. Those files will be ghosted when you try to import them. You have to render the files into .mov's, then you can import them. Barryby Barry - Café LA scaling quality in 5.1 - 16 years agoJust getting started here in FCS 5.1 and loading a project created in FCP 4.1. I get a requester box asking what quality I want use. The choices are ...fastest...normal and best. It defaults to normal. What are up and down sides to using the "best" settings? Should I just use the default of "normal"? If I select one or the other, can I change it later if I am dissatisfieby Barry - Café LA Which upgrade versions are most stable - 16 years agoI just updated to Tiger 10.4.6 and FCS 5.1 and need to install the current updates. Since not all updates are stable, I was wondering which are the most stable? Also what is the best way to upgrade? Automated or manual? I seem to remember some discussion on this in the past. I know I can look in the FAQ, but wanted to get the newest opinions. BTW, I like the inclusion of the "FAQ Ranchby Barry - Café LA Re: FCS install won't recognize other drives - 16 years agoDerek, I just followed your last suggestion of reformatting the drive although I had to reboot Panther then go back to Tiger. I didn't want to have a ticking timebomb hanging around. Funny thing though...My local Mac Store couldn't give me any advise except to bring it in and Apple Tech Support didn't offer your idea up as a solution. Again, Thanks for your input. Barryby Barry - Café LA Re: FCS install won't recognize other drives - 16 years agoHi All, I found a work around for my problem, as I will explain, but I am still curious as to why I could change 2 drives but not the 3rd. Here's my work around. I anticipated that there would be some kind of issue, call me paranoid, when I embarked on my upgrade path. So I started with a new system drive and left Panther and FCP4 on the old drive. When things went sideways, I unplugged theby Barry - Café LA Re: FCS install won't recognize other drives - 16 years agoThanks Derek for your response. I was able to get 2 out of 3 scratch drives to cooperate but the 3rd drive will not. I can't get it to change and keep the "read/write setting. When I try to make changes such as add a folder I get *an unexpected error occurred (error code -50). When I try to rename a folder I get * try using another name with fewer characters or no punctuation marks*by Barry - Café LA FCS install won't recognize other drives - 16 years agoHi all, I just installed Tiger & FCS on a new "system drive", and all went ok, until I tried to change a folder name on my "scratch drives". I now have "read only" permissions on those drives. How do I regain permisson to write to these drives? System Config: G4 Quicksilver Dual 1ghz. & 1gig ram. Thanx Barryby Barry - Café LA Re: OT: The Life of a Video Effect - 16 years agoGood Point....I remember when we edited tape to tape and could only do "cuts" and oh how we wished that we could dissolve between clips. Now that we can, with ease I might add, the style has gone back to "cuts" only. Ahh nostolga... Barryby Barry - Café LA Re: LiveType question - 16 years agoThanks for your input Derek....That's ultimately what I did. I just thought that there was another way. Thanks again Barryby Barry - Café LA LiveType question - 16 years agoHi All, I am working on some lower-third "convict titles" and haven't been able to figure out how to make the font and attributes stay the same from one project to another. When I cut & paste the names I lose all of the attributes, so I have to reformat each set of names. It really s l o w s down my progress. I'm figuring that there is an easier way to do this...anyone have theby Barry - Café LA Re: OOPs I deleted the wrong file - 16 years agoThank you all for your input. Fortunately most of the project files were older and probably will never be resurrected. The one I really needed was in autosave on another drive and had most of the changes i did. I tried "Data Rescue" trial version and pulled off one project (not the one I wanted) that seems to work fine. Unfortuneatley I can't justify the expense to retrieve somethinby Barry - Café LA Re: OOPs I deleted the wrong file - 16 years agoThanx Derek for your response. No I don't have a current backup. While the Auto Save version is on another drive, it doesn't contain the last changes that I made. You don't think that disk warrior would work? We are going to buy a copy anyway, but I don't know if it will do what I'm needing. Barryby Barry - Café LA OOPs I deleted the wrong file - 16 years agoI just got distracted for a second and deleted my projects folder and emptied the trash. I have no 3rd party disk utility programs available to me, but I will buy what I need. What do I need. Thanx Barry G4 dual 1 gig, 1 gig ram, panther 10.3 and FCP4.1by Barry - Café LA Re: Upgrade to Tiger - 16 years agoWhy not just buy another hard drive, after all they are pretty cheap, to install Tiger and FCS on? That is what I plan to do. That way if everything blows up in my face, which happens more often than I want to think about, I can simply toss in the old drive, at least I will be able to function until I can get things figured out.
