Maybe Apple could be persuaded to carry a better line of drives. Just a thought. Barryby Barry - Café LA Re: Great article on Editing - 16 years agoA friend of mine and I had a discussion along this line, and his opinion was that if 2001: A Space Oddessy were released today it would bomb out big time. It's too slow and plodding for today's audience. I have to agree with him. Barryby Barry - Café LA Re: Upgrade Question - 16 years agoThank you Derek and Andrew, That pretty much answers most of my concerns. I appreciate your time. Thanx Barryby Barry - Café LA Re: Simplevideout to DVD recorder via firewire - 16 years agoI have tried this with my Toshiba tabletop DVD burner and it doesn't work either. It doesn't get the proper signal to capture. I was thinking that it was because FCP wasn't sending Time Code to the Toshiba. Maybe??? Barryby Barry - Café LA Upgrade Question - 16 years agoHi All, I am going to upgrade from FCP4.1 to FCS in the near future. I have an upcoming project that I may have to start capturing sooner. Now I know from past forum posting that it is suggested that to NOT update in the middle of a project. (See the hole, jump in)Will I run into big problems if I capture in FCP4.1 and then edit in FCS? Would it work to Log the footage and not actually captuby Barry - Café LA Re: Live Type Roll Problems - 16 years agoHi All, Thanx for your responses. Just to add to the weirdness of all of this, I accidently loaded the afore mentioned LT movie into FCP and found it does in fact roll the whole credit roll. This is the same .mov file that stops midway thru while in LT. ??????? Oh well, I got it to work in time for my little production and guess I will continue my search for an answer after I get some otherby Barry - Café LA Re: Which machine for FCP Studio? - 16 years agoThanx Adolfo, That was exactly the answer I was looking for. Barryby Barry - Café LA Re: Live Type Roll Problems - 16 years agoThanx for responing Derek, Yes I did set the in and out points. Another thing that's really weird is that in preview or when I position the playhead near the end of the TL it shows that it runs the whole roll. Very perplexed Barryby Barry - Café LA Re: Which machine for FCP Studio? - 16 years agoIt seems that all the suggestions about which would be a proper machine drifts towards laptops. What about desktops? If a mini won't do, what about an Imac? Are they running the new intel chips yet? When might a tower with intel chips come out? I am trying to position my system to move up to an intel tower when they come out and after you "bleeding edge" people work out the bugs.by Barry - Café LA Live Type Roll Problems - 16 years agoHi All, I'm trying to do a simple credit roll (directed by, editor....) and I can't get no cooperation from LT. I have typed in the whole roll and applied the "Scroll Up" effect. I dragged the text line to about 2 minutes in length. When I apply the effect the text goes by really fast and stops well short of the end of the credits. So I dragged the effect out to 2 minutes in lengthby Barry - Café LA Re: capturing from VHS - 16 years agoSince you have called it a "mini DV player", are there v/a inputs? Players don't have inputs and can't be used as a DA convertor. Is the Mini DV a player or a recorder? Barryby Barry - Café LA Re: powerbook work flow - 16 years agoThanx Derek, Why MUST I have Disk Warrior? Barryby Barry - Café LA powerbook work flow - 16 years agoI have been looking into purchasing a g4 powerbook with the idea of being to edit with FCP4 in SD DV mode. I understand that it is unadvisable to use the system drive for a capture scratch destination and that external drives are iffy also. So how do you edit using a g4 powerbook? I know that this topic has been discussed in the past but I am looking for some newer thoughts on the subject. Thby Barry - Café LA Re: Sony Digital 8 and FCP? - 16 years agoI hate to disagree with Jude on this one, but if the tape was recorded in digital8 format you will want to use the Firewire setting and you will get timecode. If, however, the tape was recorded in 8mm or Hi-8 then you would use non-controllable device, and you won't get timecode. Capture Now on the firewire setting will wait for you to roll the tape. In non-controllable device, capture now wilby Barry - Café LA Re: VHS Digitisation through MAC - 16 years agoMy old Panasonic SVHS edit system has a Digital Noise Reduction (DNR) which I don't use because it freezes the "noise" in the forground. It looks like you're looking through a dirty window... really annoying. I think that a TBC would definitely be a necessity for stablizing the image. Barryby Barry - Café LA Re: OT: monitor tray for tripod - 16 years agoHow big of an LCD monitor are we talking about here? Markertek has a heavy duty gooseneck (DELV-FLEX) that will attach to a tripod leg and will hold up to 4lbs. It's made for the little DelvCam 5" monitors which have a mounting hole on the bottom the same size as on any camcorder. The gooseneck has a threaded end to fit the monitor mount. They also carry a Swivel Mount Adapter (DELby Barry - Café LA Re: external drive - 16 years ago>>>>In the meantime, people continue to buy Lacies<<<<< Maybe that's because Apple pushes them in their "Mac Stores". I had a long discussion with a clerk at our local store and he adamamently(sic) defended the Lacie drives. I recently purchased a 250 gig, just for backup, before I read all the negative comments about them. So far, however, it has worked flby Barry - Café LA Re: to upgrade or not to upgrade... - 16 years agoAny idea on how long the "incentive period" is going to last? We work on a fiscal budget of July 1 to June 30th, so money might be tight here in the next couple of months. Thanx Barryby Barry - Café LA to upgrade or not to upgrade... - 16 years agoHi gang, I am finally in between projects and wondering if now is the time that I should, need to or if I even can upgrade to the FCP5 Studio? I will only be shooting in DV for the foreseeable lifetime so I don't need the HDV aspect of the suite. I know that I will need to move up to tiger also. Any idea on how long the upgrade price ($199) will be in affect? G4 dual 1gig QuickSilver, 1gig rby Barry - Café LA Nesting Mystery - 16 years agoHello All, Here's my mystery. I have a series of clips, that are overlayed on each other, and then nested. All seemed good, so I moved them into my timeline and put a page peel transition on them. All seemed good, so I saved my project. When I came in the next morning to double check the alignment of my music, I noticed that the page peel peeled to black and then the next clip played. I chby Barry - Café LA |
