OT New mac pro predictions - 18 years ago
ok, i'm finally pricing my tower (it's been so long, and my god do i need it) so the word on the street is the macpro's with those intel dual quad cores are coming, but how soon? i'm not in a huge rush, but if it's gonna take till summer i'm not going to wait. i used data rescue and scanned the harddrives and restored the data and all the data is there but at the same time, it's unreadableby Aaron Zander - Café LA

ok, so working on a shoot using the panasonic hvx, im very familiar with the panasonic work flow, but i have a huge problem i downloaded the contents folder to be imported later went to open it, and the files had gotten erased by some one improperly using the p2 import to see the footage. So i restored all the folders and the contents and now fcp won't allow me to open the contents folder andby Aaron Zander - Café LA

so, In the lab I work in we recently started switching to 5.1.2 and in the course the gernal error 41 arrived so we looked it up, it seems this error has about as solid a definition as "is" in the clinton erra. What my research lead, was the following set of errors genral error 41 could possibly be Fire wire trouble, i.e. not enoughn data flowing quick enough, solutins inclby Aaron Zander - Café LA

also if you had your drives striped across eachother implying huge stipe one is striped across huge stripe 2 than you would A see only one drive at any given time, and B if one failed you would loose it all. Also if your comfortably try changing the order, it sounds as if you have your to drives daisy chained together, which is never a good thing to do, let alone with larg drive sizesby Aaron Zander - Café LA

ok so last we all talked, I was coming up with the basics of the room, and hoping that it would happen. We got the word the other day that another department is purchasing a dvc pro Hd deck and hd monitor to set up into a lab we design! so here's what we are going for mac pro 3.0 ghz of processing power 8 gigs of ram (purchased separately) 500 gig hd set up an ide drive in the second oby Aaron Zander - Café LA

ok, I have a hypothetical question to pose I'm drawing up a proposal for my school to set up an HD editing suite that can handle atleast 2k if not 4k. we are thinking hdcam deck or dvcprohd (depending on the cameras the school may get) it would be built around a mac pro 3.0 ghz with dual monitors. ok so I ran my telecine footage from a dvcpro50 tape through cinema tools its 152 clips totaling like 46 min or so 20.75 gigs it only took 27 min to run through it allby Aaron Zander - Café LA

hmm, well I wish i could give you some sort of test, but A we have one computer that has refused to read 1 fw maxtor drive, but reads others fine, and the rest seem to be shaping up, If you guys know of any way to test the fw speeds let me know either here or by emailby Aaron Zander - Café LA

no problem, I was working in fcp thursday night as well, in a dv50 ntsc format, and rendered out a 3 min quicktime, all i have to say is when it's created in under 45 seconds...I'm very very impressedby Aaron Zander - Café LA

brooks institute of photography, we were going to get intel imacs, but then wwdc came along and we decided a machine as fast as the quads (in theory) for several hundreds cheaper. mind you they are as based out as you can get...but the best thing is, I really want to take the 29 boxes into one our sound stages and build a box fort! it would be awsome. but we're finally getting rid of our veryby Aaron Zander - Café LA

ok we have 29 2.0 ghz mac pros so far we have one with a firewire recognition problem but thats it, the last of them went in wed. or so, and we have a school wide brake for a week coming soon, but still it's the craziest time of the last two months and so far theres no problems directly related with the computers (a few with deep freeze but thats a different issue) except for the fire wire issue.by Aaron Zander - Café LA

ok I Gotta say the hvx is the best camera of the uner 10k group out. My school has like 12 of them now, and I plan on shooting a green screen feature wih it in about a year or so. The best part is you never have to buy another tape, weather it be a 5 doller mini dv tape, a 10 doller hdv tape a dvcpro 50 tape or a dvcprohd tape for 30 and 45 accordingly the hvx is amazing. ok, so we all know shake is going down and is at the end of it's life cycle, so it's amazingly cheap as we have all seen and as im a student it's 250 bucks! but here are my questions 1 is it worth buying as there is new tech coming out and buying a program you know isn't going to continue doesnt sound like a great idea 2 my computer is above min requirments but it's still a 12" power bookby Aaron Zander - Café LA

Ok, so i supose i retract my prior statement, im just going by how bad the slow down of a drive (not counting lockup at sub 10%) shouldn't effect any sd video source, let alone dvcam especially over fw800. i see about 50 drives a day pass by me of all makes and models, and the standard student (as I work in our digital labs) doesn't haul around a 2 tb fiber array or sata drive, I deal with aloby Aaron Zander - Café LA

Ok well if the fridge worries you, go to the supermarket, and get the following 1 box of 2 gallon (or very large type) zip-lock or airtight bags 1 set shot glasses 1 bottle of cheap vodka proceed home, start transferring till drives are hot, take them out place in bags, than into the crisper, poor shots of vodka, and drink to the hope that this allows you to get your media onto a superior driveby Aaron Zander - Café LA
