Thanks for looking. - 17 years ago1) Will you buy a DVD of this movie after you see the trailer? No. It doesn't leave me hanging. 2) Does the trailer tell a story? Not particularly. I want you to show me a story. To tease me, and lead me on. You gave me random cuts of dialogue. 3) What do you like about this trailer? Nothing stands out. 4) What do you hate about it? Needs color correction, film effects, and audio mixinby Mike Watson - Café LA Re: creating effect between pictures - 17 years agoI was able to help her with this in person, and it was a render problem. Thanks to all for your advice.by Mike Watson - Café LA Re: Please help with an HD workflow - 17 years agoI am typically working with Blackmagic 8bit. How much more space will this HD media take? I have a 1TB hugedrive. Any thoughts on how much it will hold?by Mike Watson - Café LA Please help with an HD workflow - 17 years agoHi all, I realize this question has been posted a hundred times before, but no answer seems to satisfy all my issues. I'm directiong a shoot next week with two HDW-F900s. I use FCP on a dual processor G5. I've got the blackmagic setup. We're shooting HD (16:9), but we're going to eventually output to standard def 4:3. It is for broadcast TV. The Exec Producer wants to shoot 24fps, but I doby Mike Watson - Café LA Re: My Black Background is Green(?) - 17 years agoHi youngeddie, I think Koz is referring to this: Rules for posting on this forum: No rants or rages. Be specific. Tell us your version of FCP, your version of your OS, your model of Mac, and how much ram you have. Tell us your brand of Hard Drive, capture Card. Give us more information than you think we need. Let us know! -MWby Mike Watson - Café LA Re: My Black Background is Green(?) - 17 years agoI had this happen to a user I administrate who had terrible workflow issues... media on the desktop, etcetera. I cleaned up his mess and it was still happening. Trashed his prefs (http://www.lafcpug.org/trashing_fcp_prefs.html), and the issue resolved itself. I don't know what causes it. Best of luck.by Mike Watson - Café LA Re: Capture HVX200 to MacBook? - 17 years agoHeh... had to LOL at "Mike, are you serious?" ... I didn't clink my glass at a wedding, and stand atop a table... I floated an idea... cut me some slack! :-) It'll be difficult to capture video on a Macbook or Macbook Pro using a non-system internal drive, as they only have one internal drive. The MBP has two firewire ports, but the MB has only one -- perhaps one of the reasons thatby Mike Watson - Café LA Re: Capture with Pyro FireLink - 17 years agoAmazon's got the ADVC 110 for $225. I swear I didn't pay more than $200 for mine, but who knows. I did it for a project and just about broke even, but at that time in my career breaking even was a pretty good gig. I haven't used it since I became a mac guy (not a lot of call for VHS tapes in 2006), but it's firewire -- I assume it would work. Sounds like you're finito on your project. Macbook is Firewire 400, and trying to run video from the deck, to the computer, back to the hard drive, all through the same pipe could be problematic. I speak in theory, as I just got my MacBook yesterday (yahoo!), and haven't gotten the crossgrade yet. (Anyone want to say how long it took theirs to arrive?) I'm curious if a USB2 Hard Drive will work any better. Guby Mike Watson - Café LA Re: Capture with Pyro FireLink - 17 years agoI used the Pyro Firelink with Adobe Premire Pro, and it would give a 2-second hit everytime there was a frame drop in the VHS tape. Very discouraging. I returned it, and paid twice as much for a consumer-level Canopus (ADVC-100?), and not only got better pictures, but a simpler workflow. If you watch the VHS tape on an NTSC monitor (i.e., a TV) and it looks significantly better than it doesby Mike Watson - Café LA Re: FCP on MacBook 2.0Ghz - 17 years agoSo... You're having trouble with DVD SP on the Macbook Pro? That doesn't bode well for the Macbook. What sort of issues are you having?by Mike Watson - Café LA FCP on MacBook 2.0Ghz - 17 years agoHi, I'm looking at buying the MacBook 2.0Ghz to run FCP on. I'm aware that it works (though it's not supported), I'm wondering if anyone here has any real-world experience with it, and has any advice. I will probably immediately upgrade to 1GB of RAM. My crossgrade is already in the mail. The Apple store has Macbooks in their refurbished section for $200 off. This seems too good to pass up,by Mike Watson - Café LA Downconverting actual HD - 17 years agoHi, I'm renting a couple of F900's in a few weeks for a 2 camera HD shoot. We're going to knock it down to 4:3 for air. I have the cameras for the whole day, and will probably only shoot for a half day. The camera has an HD-SDI out on it. I have a blackmagic card in my FCP workstation. It was designed before I got here, and I don't know exactly how everything is connected. Can I hook up thby Mike Watson - Café LA Re: FCP on a MacBook 2.0Ghz - 17 years agoYou know, I don't know if I could edit with one full time (honestly, with the heat issues, I don't know how long it'll last anyhow), but as a second machine to get some editing done on the road, while trapped in an airplane, or just to edit a freelance project without having to sneak into the office in the evening... It looks tempting. The performance of motion doesn't look terribly promising, bby Mike Watson - Café LA Re: another HDV question! - 17 years agoYes, the camera has two channels of audio. Some Sony models are known for having two "Stereo" mics on the front of the camera. If you're trying to re-create this effect in FCP, set the "Pan" for channel 1 to -1, and the Pan for channel 2 to +1.by Mike Watson - Café LA Re: squeezing a series of several images a one time - 17 years agoLasso them all, and hit Option-C (or "Sequence" -> "Nest Items" to Nest them into one long clip. Then Option double-click the new nest to change the motion properties of it. Perhaps the manual would be of some use to you in the learning stages of FCP.by Mike Watson - Café LA Re: HDV editing on Macbook Pro for output to projection screen - 17 years agoWell, as we learned at the last LAFCPUG meeting, not all projecters accept a 1024 x 720 signal. It would be (as we saw) an uncomfortable experience to troubleshoot this problem with a room full of people waiting for a movie. Other than that... all looks good!by Mike Watson - Café LA FCP on a MacBook 2.0Ghz - 17 years agoAn interesting article on running FCP on a MacBook (not a pro). Apparently it works, and rivals (if not beats) the performance of a dual 2Ghz G5. Can you imagine having the performance of your current desktop system on a laptop? Amazing.by Mike Watson - Café LA Re: squeezing a series of several images a one time - 17 years agoThere are a number of ways of doing this. 1) You can crop your existing image (perhaps "25" left and "25" right for a true 50% image), and move it to the left side of the screen by turning "wireframe" mode on, and dragging it to the left. Crop your new image by the same amount, and drag it to the right. 2) You could squeeze your image (fit the whole image into halby Mike Watson - Café LA Re: no iPod export in compressor? - 17 years agoIt might be in File -> Export -> Quicktime Conversion. Pull down the menu to select iPod (320x240). -MWby Mike Watson - Café LA Re: reconnecting offline media... - 17 years agoHmm. You state the problem, and that FCP says you have insufficient room for pre/post-roll, but you don't ever refute that you actually DO have plenty of pre and post-roll. (5 secs on either side, by default, I believe. Perhaps more for mini-DV acqusition.) If the problem is that you don't have any (or enough) pre and post roll, you've officially learned to roll longer before and after your sby Mike Watson - Café LA San Diegans to the FCPUG meeting Wednesday? Carpool? - 17 years agoI realize this isn't exactly the forum for this, but I can't seem one that fits. I'm coming up from San Diego for the meeting on Wednesday, and am looking for a carpool buddy. (It's better than fighting traffic alone at 5pm.) I've looked into the train, but it's a six hour, sixty-dollar round trip. Your car or mine. Split gas 50/50. (Or more, depending on riders.) Anyone interested?by Mike Watson - Café LA Re: how do I capture a scrolling blog animation - 17 years agoPerhaps you could capture the screens one at a time, and sew together a tall image in photoshop. Then manipulate the image with FCP - i.e. tilt down to reveal it by moving the y axis.by Mike Watson - Café LA Re: Countdowns - can you help me find them? - 17 years agoIf you just wanted to get it on the timeline, you could output it to tape and then re-digitize it. I will admit, it's rather "suckworthy". The guys on e-bay who sell 5,000 full motion backgrounds for $9.99 sometimes have a leader or two in there. I did a google search for "countdown slate" and had a few promising leads, but nothing immediate. At times, one of us will take in an audio feed, and uncheck the "video" box in the Log and Capture window. This is a universal setting, and when you forget to re-check it before you close the Log and Capture window, it stays applied for the all users. Later that day, another editor will come in to use FCP, and start taking in vidby Mike Watson - Café LA Re: Glow Effect / Transition? - 17 years agoI hope to find both. I looked over Cartooner, and it doesn't seem to be what I'm looking for, but it's hard to tell with the miniscule still pics on the website. I will try Film FX white diffusion, and see how it works. Anyone else?by Mike Watson - Café LA Glow Effect / Transition? - 17 years agoHow do you get the glow transition / filter that is so popular with the Entertainment Tonight / Insider crowd? I've tried a few things, but it always ends up looking like a white flash (dip to color) as opposed to glow. Thanks!by Mike Watson - Café LA |
