Thanks, I figured as much. It just would be nice to delete files on a file by file basic; as this is the way I became used to doing such in the Windows world. But I must adapt to the ways of the Mac and the PC. This is slightly different; with shift-delete; this will take an active file and bypass the recycle-bin before it goes there. Say in Windows I am working in 3ds Max and I have a file called test1.max I do some changes and create a new version called test2.max. From Windows Explorer I go to the 3dsmax directory where I saved these files. I click on test1.max; hold down shift-delete and I cby mark@avolution - Café LA

I generate a lot of test *.movs from FCP and they end up in the trash can. In Windows from "My Computer" you can select the file and hold "shift" whilst pressing delete; which bypasses the "Recycle Bin" and deleted it after a confirmation. Is there an equivalent option in Mac OS X to achieve the same thing?by mark@avolution - Café LA

I have found that bringing in the self contained XDCAM into DVD Studio Pro gives you better encode quality than compressor; but take longer; so I concur! Solved Issue with Strobing 1080 footage - 16 years ago
1) In FCP if the footage chunks along in the viewer the pan is too fast for 24p 2) Both Roxio Toast 9 HD and DVD Studio Pro for some mysterious reason do not support 1080p 24 in HDDVD 3) On my LCD projector you have to trick the playback of 1080p (even though these DVD "authoring programs" output in awful 1080i; by using the HDMI output AND forcing the display mode to 24p ONLY. 4by mark@avolution - DVD Studio Pro

Yes, we just bought a Blue-Ray player to do BlueRay burns via Toast HD 9; BUT we have an XDCAM 24p production and the client bought a HDDVD Player (Hitachi HD-A30). I am just trying to get a product to them in HD-DVD that does correct pulldown (and that is the issue) and then I will never touch HDDVD again! Using the methods and presets exactly listed in "Making Hi-Def DVDs on 4.7G DVD Disks" I have ran into the following issues. 1) When taking a 24p XDCAM self-contained movie into compressor and using the HD 60 minute h264 preset as indicated; the file comes into DVD Studio and the Asset Column (Name, Status, in Use....) says the h264 QT is 23.98fps; which is expected. When I roll down the resolution settings in DVDSP4 I can only see 1920x1080i and 1440x1080i. Has 1080p been left out of the spec?by mark@avolution - DVD Studio Pro

Try this (my motion is 3.02) Go to Edit/ Project Settings Select XDCAM (HD or EX) 24p Accept this change. You will see the frame rate stays at 29.97! Is this a bug; or is there a place to set the frame rate to 23.97? I don't use Motion much; so I could be missing somethingby mark@avolution - Motion

I have discovered much later and well after everything was shot that the Shutter switch on the XDCAM was turned off. In other words, no motion blur was added in recording the footage (which explains why it looks so stroby and choppy). Anyhow, is there a setting in FCP that will allow me to add in some motion blur after the fact to help mitigate this situation?by mark@avolution - Café LA

When capturing with the DV cable sometimes the audio will go out of synch (even with deck control and log and capture). However by taking the output of the DV deck as composite (or even YC) hooking up deck control and using one of the kona io settings (8 bit ucompressed to DV)- I have never had my deck controlled footage go uot of synch... just as an FYI derekmok Wrote: --------------by mark@avolution - Café LA

FYI: For backing up projects and QT movies; I found that a SCSI U320 drive to be about 10 to 12 times faster than a Firewire 400 drive. JTYWLTKby mark@avolution - Café LA

I am creating a multi-buttoned presentation coming out of Final Cut Pro set to DV editing quality and this looks nice going into DVD Studio. I have loaded 5 tracks so into the main window whilst watching the total for the SD DVD total space meter on the top right hand side (which goes from green to red) My five tracks times are in minutes 1) 5:16 2) 8:24 3) 23:09 4) 11:47 5) 13:49by mark@avolution - DVD Studio Pro

I experimented with XDCAM 1080p24 and FCP and found the pulldown in FCP to be bloody awful; so this time we shot footage at 1080p30, to at least mitigate the 125% speed increase on any 24p clip on a 29.97 timeline. Now I am testing the raw 1080p30 XDCAM brought into FCP with the XDCAM transfer software and notice the motion scintillation that occurs on zooms and pans. Best Codec out of FCP for XDCAM footage to DVD - 16 years ago
I am looking for the best codec to go from 1920x1080p 24fps from Final Cut to "get into" DVD Studio Pro for making HDDVD disks. I am using XDCAM which is fast;but is there a better (higher quality) and maybe faster export as quicktime that I am missing? thanksby mark@avolution - DVD Studio Pro

An interesting note about Motion is that is follows the left handed rule and not right handed rule for cartesian coordinates. In 3ds Max (as I will use as my "control" y is into and out of the screen and z is up and down; whilst this is reversed in Motion 3. I constantly have to convert my z and y in my head as I am so used to the right handed rule as "cemented in place&quby mark@avolution - Motion

I am doing a 4:3 letterboxed production 480i SD and most of my media assets are 4:3 29.97 DVCAM but some of my newer assets are XDCAM 1920p 23.98 fps. When I put the XDCAM assets on the timeline (and these ones show trees being blown by the wind) It looks as though the footage is being sped up to an odd speed. It just looks wrong. It's looking that way..... I even searched through every filter in FCP including Combo Math filter but it can't do it. I was reading on CreativeCow that if I could do an additive key (can't find one in FCP) I'd be off to the races... 3ds Max has an alpha mode called additive alpha that allows items with additive transparency information to be encoded into the targa, tif, or mov from the rendered output of 3ds max. Is there a way to set up a lens effect inn FCP so it honours the alpha channel if it is used as an overlay over video. It seems that as FCP/effects/render/lens effect, it is a free standing full screen effect and I was hoping it could be used as an overlay. I might be missing somethingby mark@avolution - Café LA

We are only using it as a stopgap method until better tech is integrated into DVD Studio Pro. On Apple.com I don't see an upgrade to QT 7.3? Would I as you, upgrade to 7.4.1. first and then get the FCP 6.02 upgrade next? I am more a Windoze persons and I am very careful in pre-checking my potential upgrade as we ran into problems with FCP 4.5 and a issue causing version of QT last year. We had to get our vendor in last year to do an upgrade to FCP 6. Thanks for your helpby mark@avolution - Café LA

I have not done this yet; I was waiting for opinions At present I am running Final Cut Pro 6.0 OSX 10.410 on a Dual 2.5Ghz Power PC with 2GB of DDR SDRAM. My quicktime is 7.2. In order to load up the Sony PDZ-KP1 browser for the XD-HD Sony Cinealta PDW 350 Camcorder, I have read that you need Final Cut Pro 6.02 (I assume this upgrade is done with the Software Upgrade?)
