Because going from 25 to 35 Mbps is not a small jump but a big one. A third more. And its a full 1920x1080 resolution, unlike DVCPRO-HD and HDV. And the new PMW-EX1 blows the doors off of every single under $10,000 camera. I have recently looked at both HVX-200 footage and EX1 footage oby Christopher SJ - Café LA Re: Interlaced 23.98? - 17 years agoWhere are you getting dark or bright green render bars? In the 23.98 or 29.97 Sequence? Are you viewing on a television or your computer monitor? -Christopher S. Johnsonby Christopher SJ - Café LA Re: broadcasting 23.98 - 17 years agoThis is the beauty of the card and FCP... You just hit play and it ads the pulldown, live, on the fly, to tape or out to a monitor. Effortless. Pure 60i 29.97. No Cinema Tools. Nothing. I believe the Easy Set-up that includes 23.98 Sequences also make the output settings for 60i 29.97. I have personally done this with 720p 23.98. multiple times. My experience over the years has shown that daisy chaining from a drive you are capturing to causes a damaged directory and completely makes the drive unusable and losing all files until you "Disk Warrior" it. I have seen it multiple times from 1999 to the present. :-) Wow, it sounds like we are all very experienced gby Christopher SJ - Café LA Re: USB and fcp - 17 years agoI'm sure you had a valid negative experience, Derekmok. I dont know what the issue was in your lab. And it could be that a feature length project buckles and stutters on USB-2. But I do know that for logging and capturing (the internal drive is just to small to even play with) and for a multitude of projects over four or more years, USB-2 has been great. None of the problems any of you describy Christopher SJ - Café LA Re: USB and fcp - 17 years agoI have had success over and over again using USB-2 drives to capture and play back DV. It was usually on short subjects. But no dropped frames at all. In fact, on a Mac Mini or an iBook, its the only way to go because the FW port is being used by the DV device, and one never wants to daisy chain a deck off of a FW Drive. Even in a professional setting, we had assistant editors logging andby Christopher SJ - Café LA Re: Preparing still images for 720/24pn HD project - 17 years agoLoren's tips are great. But please understand this basic notion: you want to bring stills in much larger than your format size, so you can zoom and pan. Another tip is to make a "Save As" a JPEG at highest quality setting in Photoshop and bring that in. You are less likely to bog down but still have resolution to play with. So, a 2000x3000 pixel HQ JPEG is not so bad at all. Gby Christopher SJ - Café LA Re: FEATURE FILM WORKFLOW - sony V1U - WEIGH IN HERE - 17 years agoThose are good workflows but check this out again: If you have a fast machine (which you need for ProRes anyway) and FCP 6, you can get the same exact quality (or better) as those workflows above if you use an HDV Sequence set to *Render* in ProRes HQ and save a ton of drive space. Also, there is no analog hit. Lets say you shoot 30 hrs of 1080 footage: HDV 333 Gigs XDCAM HD 460by Christopher SJ - Café LA The New Way - 17 years agoListen, if you are going to show this on the big screen, not broadcast, and you dont want to re-capture for an Offline/Online workflow, and you have a recent fast computer with more than 2 gigs of RAM, then I would stick to HDV. Its true that DVCPRO-HD is easier on the processor but that transcode will definitely take resolution away from your original footage. Long shoots in the field. Why leave out the JVC HD200U? Its 720p but actually provides more resolution than the Panasonic because of the superior chips (about 200 more lines of resolvable detail according to Adam Wilt). It is more compressed but I have to tell you, as a doc editor, I have spent time with the footage (sit down interviews and people walby Christopher SJ - Café LA Re: OT - itunes now ready for prime time!!! - 17 years agoderekmok Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > > I should have written that it is iDVD, not > iTunes that can import and convert iTunes tracks > to > > AIFFs > > Huh? > You mean iMovie. I should have written that it is iDVD, not iTunes that can import and convert iTunes tracks to AIFFs. Truth be told, though, the results are not nearly as nice as importing from a CD. The results are lackluster. Makes for quick temp music, though. You know there are some ribbings that are intended to be mean and others that are intended to be among friendly peers in a group -- especially when he or she thinks the others are slacking off -- intellectually or otherwise. Your projecting positions on to me I have not taken. You may be looking for the Limewire kid out on his skateboard. I think I have clarified this above a few times now. Like 50 or 100 years, and then it enters the public domain for the public good? Keeping a cultural history alive, like keeping the soil fertile. Disney took advantage of this by swiping the Snow White and other stories. But isnt it good that Snow White is public domain now. That is why it is so important that you provide a board like this where public discourse can take place. Its the antidote to only hearing Disney's voice on the evening news or Wall Street Journal. Some people drink and drive. I dont. So I still have a right to make drinks sometimes and drive at others. There are no damages like in piracy. Its only a cultural brainwashing that has us believe anything different. "Separate but Equal" was also once a law. Bring on the legal challenge. I was off technically. But then you confuse piracy again and I was careful to differentiate the two. Nothing I described denies one cent of income from anyone. - Christopherby Christopher SJ - Café LA I'm a bear! - 17 years agoI'm a bear so I will. Because its my human-inherent right to experiment in my own edit suite with any music I want that I have paid for. Its called "temp music", or "home video", or "goofing around without public exhibition". Any current laws that negate that are unconstitutional and will not stand the test of time.
