Abundant thanks for the valuable pearls of wisdom.by davko - Café LA Re: bad edges with title tool - 14 years agoAs you can see, the clean edges and solid letters that were present in Boris' toolmaker have been chewed away in a semi-crosshatched pattern once they were layed over a background. Other fonts experienced the same problem, and rendering did not help.by davko - Café LA Re: bad edges with title tool - 14 years agoIt's set at DV NTSC 48 khz ( DV/DVC-PRO NTSC compressor). The titles look sharp when viewed on black as a single track; it's against a background that things go south...How can I post a screen shot?by davko - Café LA bad edges with title tool - 14 years agoI've used the "Handwriting - Dakota" font to create a title in Boris, but getting a terrible form of aliasing that looks almost crosshatched when I view the result in FCP. Ironically, the effect is even more pronounced after I render. The letters within the title tool itself look solid and clean, so it's nothing I've created. What causes this, and how do I get rid of it?by davko - Café LA audio capture problem - 14 years agoOf late, clips have been taken unusually long to process following capture, accompanied by a meter bar and the cryptic message "verifying audio data." When they finally become ready to view, they're out of synch. I haven't changed any settings (just scratch discs) and have been capturing without incident for months... though I did encounter this problem once before.by davko - Café LA Re: fresh copy of bad tape doesn't capture either - 14 years agoYes, I appear to have recorded the copy in LP mode, and I also connected the devices via fire wire connector at both ends. if I go component out (from the deck), may I use a 6-pt. adapter to go into the G5's fire wire port? I don't know any other way to capture media into this computer (but can switch to a Mac Pro if necessary)... Many thanks for your insights and help.by davko - Café LA fresh copy of bad tape doesn't capture either - 14 years agoContinuing with an earlier query, I'm trying to salvage the content of a tape that suffered picture breakup and broken timecode due to a problem with the camera's record heads. I thought that by making a 1:1 copy onto a black encoded tape (from camera to tape deck), I would benefit from newly generated time codes, which I could then capture. Instead, the copy has taken all the bad information oby davko - Café LA Re: cannot capture bad tapes - 14 years agoTo my dismay, even when I switch to non-controllable device, the L&C function will periodically stop and produce a message ("capture has encountered a problem reading the data on your source tape". Why can't I override this, so that it just records whatever I feed in? Again, I disabled all warning boxes in settings. One interesting observation: when I play the bad tapes back thby davko - Café LA cannot capture bad tapes - 14 years agoAn apparent problem with my camera's record heads has resulted in tape with bad artifacting and time code breaks, but that I desperately need to capture anyway. Yet I can't seem to do so, even when I use the CAPTURE NOW option and even upon and deselecting both the ABORT CAPTURE ON TIME CODE BREAKS and ABORT ETT/PTV boxes in my user settings. Is it even possible? If so, why doesn't the selection I need appear with the songs when I attempt to access it through FCP? Would appreciate any help on this, as I'm not misappropriating the material (it's for a director's demo).by davko - Café LA Re: can't open FCP files - 15 years agoAnd just did again... but this time requiring a different solution. Seems when I reloaded the application program FCP 6.0, I had forgot to load the upgrades -- which all my projects had had the benefit of being edited on. Program has now been brought back up to latest version, and all's well. Thanks, and sorry for the false alarm.by davko - Café LA can't open FCP files - 15 years agoThe message "File's format is too new for this version of the application" suddenly appears every time I try to open a project. I've quit and shut down, but to no avail. I've added a few plug-ins recently; otherwise, no changes have been made to the program.by davko - Café LA Re: conflicting info on bad video card - 15 years agoI ordered the $75 Radeon 9800, had it installed, and sadly, it's not working. Simply no video signal on launch. The tech who did the installation is now asking whether there might have been some kind of d.c. connector or cable in the box -- an important peripheral for establishing connectivity to the AGP port. The answer: no, just the card. I tried to contact the eBay seller on this, but hby davko - Café LA Re: conflicting info on bad video card - 15 years agoThanks to all for suggestions & prompt feedback. Looks like I'll be able to make arrangements for delivery on that modded PC version for $75. A real lifesaver if everything goes through. Hoping the 128 mb (vs. the current 256) will suffice.by davko - Café LA conflicting info on bad video card - 15 years agoI just blew a video card on a 4 year-old G5, and can't get a straight answer on what I need to get up and running again. When I bought my system, I was told I had to upgrade from a standard 9600 video card to a Mac Radeon 9800 Pro AGP 256MB card in order to run FCP. That's the one that just failed. Was I given proper information, or could I have stayed with the off-the shelf 9600? (The displaby davko - Café LA Re: perpetual "validation" of audio data - 15 years agoIn other words, by switching to 48k capture settings, I might be able to solve the problem in one fell swoop?by davko - Café LA perpetual "validation" of audio data - 15 years agoI just lost all media on a long capture because the message "validating audio data," accompanied by a graphic, wouldn't end after several minutes. When I hit cancel, my clip appeared in the browser with a red slash through it. What went wrong here? Furthermore, I just looked on the drive, and the media is all there.by davko - Café LA Re: correcting for underexposure gaffe - 15 years agoThis covers the gamut, and perfectly targets my problem. Not the kind of valuable that seems readily available and thus good topic for permanent FAQ WIKI reference. Many thanks.by davko - Café LA Re: correcting for underexposure gaffe - 15 years agoThis turned out to be an enlightening exercise after all, and by taking advantage of the endless variations available for combining and manipulating the plug-ins under discussion, I've more than adequately restored the errant footage (and my reputation in the eyes of the client) to near pristine quality. In fact, one could argue that in places it looked even better than the properly exposed stufby davko - Café LA Re: correcting for underexposure gaffe - 15 years agoGot it going! I won't go into detail, but suffice it to say, you guys saved my ship. I'm already getting some promising results using Lyric and Neatvideo, and even feel like a perfect match of the segments is within reach... but I'm not there yet. Could someone elaborate a little on the composite layer, and what to do with the base layer once I've created one. Or put another way, how do Iby davko - Café LA Re: correcting for underexposure gaffe - 15 years agoRelying on my camera's autoexposure is history, no question about it. Thanks to all for the valuable input, and cautionary advice. At the moment, I've got a more pressing problem: I've just downloaded the latest version of neatvideo (which I'm eager to try out), and cannot open any of my FCP projects! Thank you both very much. I realize nothing will fully correct the problem, but one or more of these suggestions is sure to make a noticeable difference. I'll chalk this off as a learning experience, as I should at least get some valuable experience using these other tools, which would otherwise have remained unfamiliar to me. Thanby davko - Café LA correcting for underexposure gaffe - 15 years agoI'm calling upon all you video-filters wizards to help me out of this one. In restarting my camera to shoot an indoor sporting event, I accidentally jumped to the manual exposure setting rather than the auto, which had been serving me well throughout the day. Unfortunately, the aperture was set very high, and I ended up with some very dark footage. By the time I caught on to what had happenedby davko - Café LA Re: can't send to Motion Project - 15 years agoI'm curious about something: is the MOTION program that comes with FCP separate and apart from the functions in the MOTION TAB? While I can't access the former, the latter is problem-free.by davko - Café LA Re: can't send to Motion Project - 15 years agoI appreciate the suggestions, and am especially interested in trying out your last one with Compressor. But I'm still disturbed by the fact that "SEND TO > MOTION" cannot be performed, regardless of source, because the Motion selection just isn't available to me. Why is it always grayed out, and how might I activate it? Many thanks.by davko - Café LA can't send to Motion Project - 15 years agoI'd like to use Optical Flow to smooth out an extremely slowed-down clip, but the menu choice for Motion Project is grayed out when I try to send it there. Am I missing something that I thought came with FCP 6.0? (I have no trouble accessing standard effects using the Motion tab).by davko - Café LA start/stop detection problem - 15 years agoI can never get this feature to work. I'm shooting standard DV, and capturing big sections of tape (40-60 minutes) that contain multiple takes. Yet whenever I run the feature on a clip, it scans to the end, but flashes a message that no breaks have been detected (and thus no markers are added). What could explain this?by davko - Café LA Re: pesky motion artifacts - 15 years agoUpdate: it appears I just figured out how to perform this function right in Photoshop, so I'm cool, guys. But I'm open to any additional input on this topic.by davko - Café LA pesky motion artifacts - 15 years agoIs there a way to de-interlace a still frame created in Quicktime Conversion before exporting it -- or even after, for that matter? The only program I've had any success with is Streamclip, but it creates a still .mov file that is not recognized by Photoshop. I'm assuming there has to be another way to grab and interpolate single-field info from a clip.by davko - Café LA |
