It seems that most of the pro houses and boutiques like the AJA family. Believe me, I have no illusions as to what it takes to work on the high end stuff. I've been doing this for 20 years and have recently switched from Avid to FCP.by Evan - Café LA Re: Which Video Capture Card? - 18 years agoThanks Shane. OK, to be more specific, I require SDI input for my digital sources and RGB (component) inputs for my analog sources and I require support for HD. More than anything though, I'm interested in peoples' real world experience with capture cards and which they think are the most reliable and have the fewest quirks. Thanks Post Edited (02-16-06 17:00)by Evan - Café LA Which Video Capture Card? - 18 years agoSo far I've been fortunate enough not to have to digitize much of my own ftg (it comes to me on hard drives) but times, they are a' changin'. I have a G5 dual 2.5 and I need to purchase a capture card that will handle SD, SDI and HD. The Kona family seems to have all of my requirements but I'd love to hear from those of you who actually use them and what your experiences are or if you'd recommeby Evan - Café LA Re: 1080i 24p or 1080 60i is cheaper in the final analysis? - 18 years agoOr you could shoot witha Canon XL2 at 24P with a 35 mini adapter and appropriate lens and output to film and bump up to HD. It'll look great (there have been a few features shot this way) and cost less.by Evan - Café LA Work flow for web project - 18 years agoI have a project coming up that is ultimately for the web amd I assume should be completed as a 24p project. If this is the case should it be shot with 2:3:2:3 or 2:3:3:2 pulldown?by Evan - Café LA Re: Multiclip Question - 18 years agoDid you use the "merge" function to sync your clips? If so, I have found similar and worse problems. Unfortunately, syncing clips and then making multiclips in FCP 5 is buggy and doesn't work. Send a bug report to Apple. Unfortunately, not enough of us are working on movies that require this to be done. Apple being Apple, they won't respond to a bug report until enough people comby Evan - Café LA Re: Recommendations for computer speakers? - 18 years agoI'm usimg Edirol MA-20D speakers. They're way cool in that they use the optical out from your G5. You need to remember to do some things first. You need to explain to people what you are doing. You will need a talent release from anyone you interview. You will probably need permission from whoever is running the show at wherever you choose to shoot (unless it is in a public place). Then all you need to do is go direct to online.by Evan - Café LA Re: deposition video - 18 years agoI assume because it's a deposition, you will be recording to an external VHS or S-VHS deck. Set your camera's TC to Time of Day as Derek said, synchronized to the court clock". Even if you have to start and stop, your TC will always be running. Clearly they need a visual reference burned in, so remember to set your menu so the appropriate visual data is sent to both the in-camera tape anby Evan - Café LA Re: I think I might change to Avid... - 18 years agoIf you want to be sold, the guys at Avid will sell you. There are some experienced editors on here giving some great advice without being inflammatory.by Evan - Café LA 24P HD Compositing - 18 years agoI am offlining at DV resolution 23.98 for a 24P HD finish that will also be done on FCP. What plug-ins are people using most successfully for compositing 24P HD blue/green screens in FCP? Will these transfer effectively in my uprez process? PS. I have been using the technique found on Ken Stone's pages. Thanks in advance for your response. Post Edited (08-26-05 15:05)by Evan - Café LA Re: I think I might change to Avid... - 18 years agoAll of the programs available that would suit your needs have one thing in common. They all have quirks that require workarounds. Since the advent of digital editing, finding workarounds to the software has simply become a part of the process. We are all troubleshooters by nature that's part of why we love to edit. Believe me, Avid has it's own set of quirks as well and when I was an assistanby Evan - Café LA Re: I think I might change to Avid... - 18 years agoAs an avid Avid user myself, although I haven't used express pro, I can honestly say that if you are planning to use this tool for offline purposes only or to cut a feature film, by all means, Avid is the way to go. If you require a finishing tool, stick with FCP, unless that is if you're loaded and can buy a DS Nitris. Truly, you get more bang for your buck on FCP and the capture cards you canby Evan - Café LA Creating Multi-Clips from Merged Clips - 18 years agoHas anyone esle had to do this? Has anyone else had trouble with this? After i synch my dailies and make multi-clips, my multi-clips crash FCP 5. Post Edited (08-19-05 07:41)by Evan - Café LA Re: Cutting multiclip video angles unlinks audio - 18 years agoTrevor, I am having problems as well but a little different from yours. Are you synching audio to your master clips (merging) and then creating your multiclips from your merged clips?by Evan - Café LA Re: FCP syncing audio with picture - 18 years agoIf you are running FCP 5, the answer is yes. Mark the in-points on the 2 clips you wish to merge (synch). Select the 2 clips. Under the "Modify" menu, select merge clips. Voila, a new clip with audio and video. You can synch from in-points, out-points or, if you have matching audio and video TC, by timecode. The only problem I have seen with this method, so far, is that when you goby Evan - Café LA |
