No difference; the timeline freezes momentarily or stutters through that section. I want to go back to QT 6. What is the best way to do this? I have gone to Apple's site and downloaded the Reinstall of QT 6 but I cannot install it on my master drive, as I get a notice that reads "The disk is dimmed because it does not contain the appropriate versioby Delphinus - Café LA Re: Quicktime problem in QT & FCP - 18 years agoThanks, guys. The external drives are not daisy-chained. I have 4-port firewire extender card. I have heard that QT 7 is a problem and maybe I am starting to get that bug. I'll switch back to QT 6 (is there an easy way to do this and circumvent QT 7?). I'll also move the media to another drive. Either or both should solve the problem. Thanks.by Delphinus - Café LA Re: Quicktime problem in QT & FCP - 18 years agoClips were captured from a DV tape via a Sony DSR-20. All of the drives are fairly new Maxtor 7200 rpm. The MASTER drive (with all programs and applications) is internal, a Maxtor 120 (the maximum a G4 motherboard will recognize) and has 20 GB remaining. All of the other five externals are from 200 GB to 300 GB, and the lowest "remaining" space is 85 GB. I ran Disk Warrior, Disk Utilities, and dumped both the QT and FCP Preferences, but thatby Delphinus - Café LA Re: Dead audio spot on timeline - 18 years agoI tried downloading the FCP Rescue software from the site you indicated on three different browsers and came up with a dead site each time. Any other way to access it?by Delphinus - Café LA Re: Dead audio spot on timeline - 18 years agoThe continuous clip is of an actor walking in a studio set delivering on-camera material. There is no loud audio at all. As I may have mentioned, the original clip plays fine in QT, and when I remove the video only from the timeline, the audio plays fine. However, when I dropped in an unrelated clip over that spot on the timeline, the same problem occured at the same point. I even re-digitized thby Delphinus - Café LA Dead audio spot on timeline - 18 years agoI have a 2-second dead spot on my timeline from a clip I digitized (video and sync audio). I went to the original clip in my harddrive and it plays and sounds fine. When I cut out the video over the dead audio spot, the audio is fine, so I re-digitized the same clip without audio, laid it on the timeline, synched it up and the 2-second dead spot is still there. Does anyone know how to fix this?by Delphinus - Café LA Re: mpeg trouble - 18 years agoThis is a sample of what I am talking about. Go to this site: (click on "mpeg movie" When I go to this site in AOL's browser and click on "mpeg movie", up comes the blue Quicktime icon then the spinning colored wheel of death for three minutes before the Quicktime icon disappears and a vertical black line appears. Let me try again. For years I could open mpeg files in AOL's browser and load them into either imovie or FCP with no problems. Then, one day, while trying to open a typical mpeg file in the AOL browser, I got the gray screen with the blue Quicktime icon (normal), but the movie would not come up and eventuallyby Delphinus - Café LA Re: mpeg trouble - 18 years agoAny idea why Safari goes through the download process (including a lengthy progress bar), lays the files on the desktop as an mpeg, but when they are double-clicked and played, they run in a split second and only show the first frame?by Delphinus - Café LA Re: mpeg trouble - 18 years agoIt's funny that I cannot download these mpeg2 files in Safari, nor AOL, but can download them in Netscape, even though they appear to be an mpeg file (the icon says so) but cannot be loaded into FCP until a lengthy "Save As" conversion turns them into mov files. Very wierd. Very, very wierd.by Delphinus - Café LA Re: mpeg trouble - 18 years agoThank you for that. A follow-up: I was, until recently, able to click on an mpeg image on a website (when using AOL's browser), have the movies open with a progress bar, then, when download was complete, hit Save As to save them to the desktop. Those wold load into FCP fine. One day, after years of doing this successfully, the clips on AOL's browser would open with a large blue QT logo, but notby Delphinus - Café LA mpeg trouble - 18 years agoKind of an unusual question but hopefully someone knows the answer. Recently, I have been using Netscape to download mpeg files (used to use AOL but it now does not allow an mpeg file to open in QT), but they do not load into Final Cut Pro --- FCP just does not recognize them, even though they open as mpeg files in Quicktime. Any idea why FCP does not accept these mpeg files? Usually, this indicates something wrong with the Quicktime software, so I trashed QT, downloaded it again, and still the same problem. I am most concerned, however, that my computer, via my firewire cable, might have blown out both my deck and my colleague's deck. I kind of need to know if that scenario is possible. Could there, under any circumstances, be enough juice going through a firewire cable to blow out two firewire chipby Delphinus - Café LA FCP not recognizing DV Deck - 18 years agoI have had a lot of problems with my FCP recognizing my Sony DSR-20 deck and took it to a tech who found that the DSR-20's firewire chip was blown out (third time this has happened; ridiculous design flaw). To be sure, I plugged in a friends DSR-40 (all power cables were unplugged when connections were made, then plugged in) and now his DSR-40 is not recognized by his system. However, when it crashed it had been using the same setup for over a year without any problems. Is that strange or what?by Delphinus - Café LA Re: FCP won't recognize deck - 18 years agoI have tried hot plugging both the deck and cameras. No effect. All firewire outlets from the computer operate my external firewire drives. so it is not (apparently) the computer's firewire outlets. Man, I am stumped.by Delphinus - Café LA FCP won't recognize deck - 18 years agoI'm pretty savvy with Macs and have used FCP for the past six years. But this has me completely baffled. One day, my FCP would not recognize my Sony DSR-20 deck, so to start with I tried four other cables. No luck. I went to Apple's site and found the document indicating I should remove the Quicktime receipts with numbers. Did that. No luck. I took another drive, wiped it clear and reinstalled thby Delphinus - Café LA Re: Cannot get FCP to recognize my Firewire Sony DSR-20 - 18 years agoI already removed the receipts as indicated by the Apple site about reconnecting firewire devices. No differences at all. Is it at all possible that there is a motherboard problem (as was suggested) where it cannot read a 4-pin firewire (the external 6-pin firewire drives all read fine) ? No matter how many times I have done this, FCP does not recognize my DSR-20, even though on a friend's similar system, his FCP does recognize it. I have tried every setting on FCP, checked the Firewire cable and Firewire outlets on the computer (all good). I DID have the firewire drives connected. Maybe that's the issue and I'll try today to load the system with all firewire drives disconnected. Any ideas if the install disk still quits? The system profile shows all three sticks are OK but I am getting constant kernal crashes and need to test the RAM as a process of elimination.
