Click HERE to register now Time code problem - 14 years agoA colleague provided me with a miniDV tape he shot that has video artifacts from what appears to be a degraded video head in the camcorder. When I tried to digitize from the tape, I received continual stop in the process with a "timecode error" message, which I expected. So, I ran the tape from the camcorder to a new tape in my Sony DSR-20, thinking the DSR-20 would create a new usableby Delphinus - Café LA PAL to NTSC conversion in FCP 6.5 - 14 years agoI will be receiving an Mp4 file from Europe in PAL format. Is there a way to convert this file to .mov in NTSC using FCP 6.5?by Delphinus - Café LA Visible time code - 14 years agoIs there a way for FCP 6.5 to create a visible time code on a project?by Delphinus - Café LA Clip not playing on NTSC monitor - 14 years agoA colleague sent me a clip that matches settings of many other clips I have in my timeline, all of which play perfectly. His clip is 720x480, 16-bit Integer, H.264, 131 MB at 29.97. Yet, when I import it into my timeline, I have a red render line which I render, and the clip plays on the Canvas but does not play at all on the NTSC monitor (it freeze frames where the cursor stops). I have converteby Delphinus - Café LA Browser changed??? - 14 years agoFCP 6.5 MacPro Intel 3 GB memory I have a few projects open and my browser (as always) lists all of the media line after line. I just opened up a new project and the Browser is an all gray field with icons of the media. Not sure how this occurred, but never happened before and all other project browsers remained as they were. Any ideas?by Delphinus - Café LA 640x480 versus 720x480 - 14 years agoWhy does FCP expand files from 640x480 to 720x480 when imported? This distorts perfect circle Photoshop files and makes me go into the Distort function to bring them back to their original size.by Delphinus - Café LA Re: Bringing in a jpeg - 14 years agoYes, thank you, but how do you actually make the conversion? My efforts have so far been unsuccessful.by Delphinus - Café LA Re: Bringing in a jpeg - 14 years agoShane: Thanks for that. How do I make the change? I went into settings and changed the DV NTSC 48kHz to DV50 NTSC 48kHz but the change did not take effect. I started a new project and did the samne thing, thinking I wold just copy the media over to the new sequence, but FCP defaulted the sequence back to DV NTSC 48kHz. Can you take me through the exact steps to make this change? That would beby Delphinus - Café LA Re: Bringing in a jpeg - 14 years agoIt is a DV setting. Is there any way to change things so I can keep the timeline intact and have the jpeg images sharper? If I change the timeline, won't all the media get messed up too? Also, why does a DV timeline make still images look so bad? Thanks.by Delphinus - Café LA Bringing in a jpeg - 14 years agoHmmmmm. How come we no longer have the option of the answer being emailed to us? Oh, well. I create jpeg files in Photoshop (text and art, over color background). When I bring them into the FCP timeline and render them, they are fuzzy and not at all sharp. Any idea what I am doing wrong?by Delphinus - Café LA Re: Copying clips to a new sequence - 14 years agoThanks for that. However, I'm pretty sure that is what I have done. I highlighted the clips on VID 1 on my main sequence, and hit Apple+c. Then went to the new sequence and activated v1 onto V2. Then I hit apple+V to copy. It overwrites onto V1.by Delphinus - Café LA Copying clips to a new sequence - 14 years agoI have a bunch of clips in sequence on VID 1 on my main timeline that I would like to transfer in whole to VID 2 on another sequence. Is there a way to transfer from VID 1 on a timeline to VID 2 on another timeline? Right now, it only copies to VID 1. Thanks.by Delphinus - Café LA 720x480 vs 640x480 - 14 years agoAlthough I have been editing on FCP for over 10 years now, here's a queation I never thought of asking ... until now. Why does FCP edit in 720x480 instead of 640x480?by Delphinus - Café LA DVD conversion for FCP - 15 years agoI am pulling video off of a DVD using MPEG Streamclip. What is the best setting to use so the final clip will match my FCP project? Thanks.by Delphinus - Café LA AVCHD on a Mac - 15 years agoHi gang: Do I need an Intel Mac to edit AVCHD in FCP 6.0? Thanks.by Delphinus - Café LA Using a Mac mini Intel with FCP - 15 years agoFirst, thank you all for great advice in the past. You are SUPER! In your opinion, can I use a sooped-up Mac mini to run FCP 6.0 decently? Colleagues say no problem; Apple Store people say potential problem. Is this asking too much of a Mac mini? Thanks.by Delphinus - Café LA Re: HD with FCP 6.0 - 15 years agoI have never found sarcasm particularly useful. When you said the HELP menu, you did not refer to the HELP menu in the FCP program, so I assumed you meant the LAFCPUG site. I think I know how to operate the arrow on my mouse!by Delphinus - Café LA Re: HD with FCP 6.0 - 15 years agoI don't see a HELP anywhere on the LAFCPUG site. It is not in OPTIONS or GO TO. Can you be more specific? Thanks.by Delphinus - Café LA HD with FCP 6.0 - 15 years agoI am editing in FCP 6.0 on a non-Intel G5 with standard video. Soon I would like to start editing with HD material. What HD formats are compatable with my non-Intel G5? Thanks for the suggestion. It worked.by Delphinus - Café LA Dead spot in timeline - 15 years agoI never had this happen before. I have had dead spots in timelines where I removed one audio clip or video clip to fix it, but this dead spot is truly dead. I redigitized the audio and video, put it back on the timeline and the spot is still dead. I replace the audio and video with an unrelated clip, still dead. Finally, I did a disk Warrior diagnostic on all drives and zapped the P-Ram, startedby Delphinus - Café LA Re: M4v Conversion problem - 15 years agoCan you be more specific? There are many DVC settings to choose from, but there is none labeled DV/NTSC within the MPEG Streamclip Opyion box. I am opening MPEG Streamclip, Clicking on File, then choosing Export to Quicktime. That launches the MPEG Streamclip box where I can choose my options at the top. In those options there are a variety of DVC settings, but no DV settings. Am I choosing Exporby Delphinus - Café LA M4v Conversion problem - 15 years agoI converted some M4v files into .mov files using MPEG Streamclip (640x480 Quicktime, using Apple Motion jpegA). They seemed to convert OK, except that when I import them into my timeline, they do not play properly in my viewer nor on my monitor. The audio runs fine but the picture freezes. When I stop the playback, the picture jumps to the correct position. Any suggestions? Thanks.by Delphinus - Café LA Re: DVD conversion - 15 years agoThe video was shot in Micronesia by someone with a camcorder with an internal DVD. So, that's the way it came out. I'll try the settings you indicated. Thank you.by Delphinus - Café LA DVD conversion - 15 years agoI have a number of DVDs of wildlife shot for us, but the shooter used a prosumer HD camcorder and I am editing in Standard Video in FCP. I want to covert these DVDs to .mov files I can import into FCP without hours and hours of rendering. I tried MPEG Streamclip with settings at H.264, 3300 bit rate, lower field, but the conversion took overnight and when I imported it into FCP I had to render itby Delphinus - Café LA Re: Digitizing 16:9-Follow-up - 15 years agoThank you. That's what I thought. Great explanation. So, for the most part, consumer, or even prosumer camcorders that offer a 16:9 shooting format are really not offering much at all except a 4:3 image with black bars added. One has to scratch their head and ask ... why? Thank you.by Delphinus - Café LA Re: Digitizing 16:9-Follow-up - 15 years agoSorry for the double-post. Won't occur again. One question, however, to your link information. What is the difference between capturing video in a 16:9 letterbox format, as opposed to capturing the video 4:3 and adding black bars in FCP, i.e., what possible advantage is there in shooting video in 16:9 letterbox if I can just make the letterbox format in my project? One would think that capturingby Delphinus - Café LA Digitizing 16:9-Follow-up - 15 years agoMaybe an easier question. If I take a DVCam original tape shot 16:9 and digitize this material into a standard FCP project (where the imaqge appears fine with upper and lower horizontal black), then make a DVCam copy of this to send to a stock footage library, am I maintaining the quality of the 16:9 original? Or, do I have to digitize the original material into a FCP project with different settiby Delphinus - Café LA Digitizing 16:9 - 15 years agoI have been working exclusively in 4:3 but now need to work on a project with video shot in 16:9. What format changes do I need to make with New Project to bring it in in 16:9, with the ultimate objective of providing 16:9 clips to a client?by Delphinus - Café LA |
