Click HERE to register now Re: What's the best way to get started using motion? - 17 years agoI think you'd be well served to get a book and/or dvd on Motion to get up to speed on these basics - full list of resources at applemotion.net. The DMTS series i n particular is very good and covers Motion 2 features. Markby markspencer - Motion Re: Replicating Rendered Element - 17 years agoYou need to 1) make sure the background is set to 0% in Edit>Project Properties and 2) export with the codec set to "animation+" Markby markspencer - Motion Re: recording midi on motion - 17 years agoFind the parameter you animated in the Inspector, and click the Animation menu (the little diamond to the right) and choose Reset Parameter. Markby markspencer - Motion Re: checking for "real time" - 17 years agoGreg, I've found that the RAM preview doesn't guarantee real-time playback - sometimes playback is real-time, sometimes it is slower. Why is that? Markby markspencer - Motion Re: checking for "real time" - 17 years agoAbsolutely, the graphics card is the most important part when it comes to Motion.by markspencer - Motion Re: checking for "real time" - 17 years agoWhat graphics card are you using?by markspencer - Motion Re: odd behaviour make particles - 17 years agoYou need to post it somewhere, plenty of free sites to do thatby markspencer - Motion Re: odd behaviour make particles - 17 years agoCan you post the project file?by markspencer - Motion Re: There must be a way, but........ - 17 years agoUsually you'd keyframe some parameter of the filter to ramp it up, but if you can't, just duplicate the underlying clip and take the filter off the upper clip, then fade out the upper clip, revealing the same lower clip below it with the filter. Markby markspencer - Motion Re: importing .ai to motion for use - 17 years agoSure, either way. For shapes just use as is; for masks, add and image mask to an object (Object > Add Image Mask) and drag the .ai file into the well in the dashboard (or directly onto the image mask object in the layers tab) and set the mode as appropriate (alpha/luma/rgb). Markby markspencer - Motion Re: Creating a economic graph animation? - 17 years agoHere's a tutorial from the very generous Special Case that will tell you how to do what you want: Markby markspencer - Motion Re: MOTION2 vs. SHAKE4 - 17 years agoI don't think they've gone public with it yet - still in beta - at least I don't see anything on the site - pixelcorps only right nowby markspencer - Motion Re: Text on a path? - 17 years agoYes, if you started in LiveType, I would deal with the color, blur, drop shadow all in LT, then maybe add the bloom in Motion.by markspencer - Motion Re: Text on a path? - 17 years agoVery nice - so how did you do the write-on of the cursive text?by markspencer - Motion Re: Creating a Counter in Motion - 17 years agoFrankly I would just use the timecode generator in Final Cut Pro and reverse it.by markspencer - Motion Re: Text on a path? - 17 years agoSure it's possible! Go to the Text tab of the Inspector, and click on the Layout pane. Set the Layout Method to Path. Now here's the trick: you need to double-click on the text to go into text mode and see the path. Click again so the text won't be highlighted and you'll see the path with three vertices which you can drag or adjust with bezier handles - just double-click on the path to add anotheby markspencer - Motion Re: Copying keyframes and getting caught up... - 17 years agoCopying and pasting keyframes is covered on page 435 in the manual. However, since it's so easy to save your own presets, I find it's faster to save the item you like and then just swap out the text or media. For example, if you make a text animation that you like, just drag the text object into the Favorites folder in the Library. Then in a new project, import the object and change the text, fonby markspencer - Motion Re: MOTION2 vs. SHAKE4 - 17 years agoNo, not at all - for example, you can't do text animation in Shake. Really, completely different app for different purpose: primarily visual effects for film, vs. Motion, primarily TV bumpers, intros, DVD menus.by markspencer - Motion Re: MOTION2 vs. SHAKE4 - 17 years agoMotion is a motion graphics application. Shake is a visual effects application. While there is some overlap in compositing features, they are different tools for different jobs.by markspencer - Motion Re: smoke doesn't rotate - 17 years agoThat particular emitter uses a negative amount of the Gravity behavior rather than any speed to move the particles. You'll need to turn off the gravity behaviors (there are two of them) then add some speed and then you can change the direction. Markby markspencer - Motion Re: G5 2.3 ok for motion? - 17 years agoThe graphics card matters more than the CPU.by markspencer - Motion Re: alpha - 17 years agoYour method should work - double check that your background opacity is set to 0 in Edit>Project Properties. But, you don't need to export anything - just bring the project file itself into FCP, you'll have the alpha. Markby markspencer - Motion Re: G5 or g4 intel? - 17 years agoDo you mean a MacBook Pro? Because the pro apps will barely run on a MacBook. They run quite well on the MacBook Pro, but Motion in particular can run much better on a G5 if you put in the right graphics card. Markby markspencer - Motion Re: solids - 17 years agouse one of the shape tools - for example R for rectangle, draw, change color, doneby markspencer - Motion Re: loop pauses after export to QT - 17 years agoThat's the nature of DVDs, nothing you can do about it - the laser is moving back to the loop point. Same thing happens on professional Hollywood DVDs.by markspencer - Motion Re: Ticker taper effect for News show? - 18 years agoThere's a text behavior for this - look in the Library in Behaviors, Text Animation - Text Crawlby markspencer - Motion Re: Applying Desaturation to a mask / shape - 18 years agoDuplicate your clip. Apply the desaturate filter to the duplicate (upper clip). Add a mask to isolate the area.by markspencer - Motion Re: FCP to Motion - 18 years agoWhat kind of keyframes? Motion supports all Motion tab keyframes except Time Remapping: center point, rotation, scale, cropping, etc. You should see them in the keyframe editor when you select the clip.
