Try doing what you're doing on a brand new, EMPTY sequence. Good luck. Markby mark raudonis - Café LA Re: Apple 23" LCD vs. Dell 2405 LCD - 18 years agoOK. I get it. Most of the "cool" kids like Dell. I'd just like to add that we have plenty of the apple cinema displays (23" and they've been working as promised for the past two years. They don't cut class, drink whiskey, or run with the wrong crowd. They just work! Markby mark raudonis - Café LA Re: Color Finesse VS. Final Touch CC systems. - 18 years agoJust bought three seats of Final Touch. We expect to work it into our on-line process as soon as our "colorists" are up to speed. Markby mark raudonis - Café LA Re: Stylized Edits - 18 years agoMr Knuckles, Here's a place to start: It's called "film flash" and it does exactly what you're asking. There's plenty of other plugins that also do this. Try googling "Film flash for FCP". Markby mark raudonis - Café LA Re: keyboard layout - 18 years agoI'm late to this thread, but I just wanted to confirm what Deb and Derek have said. Don't try to make FCP into an Avid. We transitioned over 100 hardcore Avid editors when we switched to FCP and a major sticking point for them was the keyboard. Rather than trying to learn a new "language", many editors just thought they could port over their old layouts. NOT a good idea. Those editby mark raudonis - Café LA Re: Really Red Reds - 18 years agoAaron, I feel you pain! We did a whole season of a show where the primary color of the set was RED! Even worse, there was RED NEON signs throughout the set. Needless to say, we spent much of our time in color correction adjusting the reds down into usable range. In most cases we did a "secondary" color correction just on the reds to bring them into range. In your case, you're justby mark raudonis - Café LA Re: chapter markers in FCP before compressor? - 18 years agomarla, Not sure if you know this... whatever text you add to the "Name" of the chapter marker in FCP will automatically carry over to the DVD SP chapter headings. This is very helpful and timesaving. We use it all the time to carry over simple headings like "Act one" "Main Titles" "Act two" "Next On", etc. markby mark raudonis - Café LA Re: most reliable dvd burner - 18 years agoMike, We run about four or five of the multiple burner "towers" which use the same drives as in your g-5. We use them very heavily and yes, we lose drives much more often than I'd like. I'm not surprised yours died. These drives are now so cheap it's not worth waiting for blu-ray if you need it now. Just replace it. markby mark raudonis - Café LA Re: Sound 4 track capture. - 18 years agoDear Hopeless and pathetic, You've posted this same question on multiple forums. It's been answered here and elsewhere. If you want to accomplish this, you need the right tools for the job. markby mark raudonis - Café LA Re: OT: How to write a resume ? - 18 years agoWayne, That's the most interesting format for a resume that I've ever seen! Love the little "LED meters" for degree of involvement. Great idea. Markby mark raudonis - Café LA Re: capturing 4 tracks of audio in FCP - 18 years agoHarry, Try one of these: Sony DSR-1500A $6,500. + and SDI card SDI carries all four audio channels. Oh, then you'll need a AJA or blackmagic card that can accept an SDI signal. With the above equipment, this is a single pass process. Without it, 2 passes. Markby mark raudonis - Café LA Re: Markers into Subclips - 18 years agoTony, Don't take this wrong, but how old are you? This is how is used to be done. When motion control wasn't possible, you put the stills on an easel and just shot them. I realize now that there are many, many better options, but this is how many documentaries were done. One of the absolute best use of stills and motion control that I've ever seen is "Lords of Dogtown" the documby mark raudonis - Café LA Re: Network Danger! Still not convinced. - 18 years agoPhil, I count about five separate responses above saying, "go for it". I'll add my thumbs up here too. The +'s far outweigh the -'s in favour of connecting to the network. Planes crash, cars crash, and you can get hit by a bus walking home tomorrow. Life is not risk free, but I still drive, fly and cross the street. Heck, I still even have a bunch of LaCie drives that I use for baby mark raudonis - Café LA Re: voice recognition - 18 years agoIf you can find a software program that can reliably turn speech to text... I'd love to know. We spends a lot of money every year on hours of transcriptions. I've demo'd plenty of programs over the years, but none are as accurate or efficient as the classic human transcriber. Do a google search for transcription services and you'll find that there's a healthy number of choices. That tells meby mark raudonis - Café LA Re: The dangers of NETWORKS?? - 18 years agoI agree with Ben and Greg. 100 + systems. All networked. All having internet access. It seems that internet access is no longer a luxury, but an important part of the workflow. Fear not the network! markby mark raudonis - Café LA Re: OT: What color are the walls in your bay? - 18 years agoDepends on if you're planning on doing any color correcting. If not... go crazy. You want maroon? No problem. However, if you're going to be color correcting anything, the goal is to have as neutral a background as possible. We have a "neutral grey" with daylight balanced lighting. Markby mark raudonis - Café LA Re: Multiclip: how to get mulitple active audio items? - 18 years agoRick, Your problem is that you have 2 X 3 channels of audio. Not 6 X 1. Is that clear? Everytime you cut, you're switching audio. What you need to do is "stack" all of your audio up using channels 1-6 in your timeline. Then, once you've got the audio in, simple tell FCP to switch Video and not audio. Hope this helps. Markby mark raudonis - Café LA Re: find source timecode in sequence? anyone?? please help! - 18 years agoAdam, Here's another hint. NEVER assume that a producer means what they say! (And I mean this in a GOOD way!) Often their terminology is not even remotely close to your understanding of common used terms. Dig a little deeper and you'll sometimes find , "oh yeah, I didn't use that window on screen... I used the counter on my VHS deck!" Markby mark raudonis - Café LA Re: Copy/Paste from Seq 1 to Seq 2 - 18 years ago"those buttons"... love 'em or hate 'em, they're the cause of a lot of confusion for editors transitioning into FCP from Avid. It takes awhile to get the hang of what they do. Markby mark raudonis - Café LA Re: Blur Plugin for FCP - 18 years agoHey... that's not "garbage"! We prefer the term, "Unanticipated program material"!!! markby mark raudonis - Café LA Re: Blur Plugin for FCP - 18 years agoShane, Oops. You forgot that many "reality shows" DO edit on FCP AND still have to blur. Like Kevin mentions above, we use a variety of techniques depending on the shot. Worst case scenario: everyone in a crowded bar. Best case: bottle of beer in a static shot. There is NO quick and easy way to do this. We allocate a fair amount of time to this process. Sometimes I think sby mark raudonis - Café LA Re: multiple timecodes on one tape - 18 years agoThe only reason your tapes have timecodes that keep starting over at zero, is that you're "falling off" the end of the last recorded signal. If you were to wind back the tape just a bit, and start recording your new segment by slightly overlapping the old, you'll find no timecode breaks. Having said that... practically speaking , this is difficult to do. Some people have gone as farby mark raudonis - Café LA Re: Missing Sound in Quicktime - 18 years agoTry mixing down your audio BEFORE exporting. Audio mixdown is located in the Render pull down menu. markby mark raudonis - Café LA Re: NBC olympic coverage, looks like poo. - 18 years agoWhat feed are you watching? SD or HD? I think the "delivery" method has more to do with this than the aquisition. I have Direct TV via satelite, and all of their HD stuff suffers from pixellation on fade ins, high motion, etc. I'm sure it looked good leaving the source, but by the time it gets to my house, yikes! I'd be curious how it's looking from a direct terrestrial broadcast.by mark raudonis - Café LA Re: Long takes -- take my workaround...please - 18 years agoDerek, Yep... we live in different worlds! I see your point. I guess it depends on what kind of material you'r working with. Your paradigm assumes slates, takes, and most of all.... a script. In my world, by defition, we work with "unscripted" material. So... no criticism intended for your workflow. It just doesn't work for me. Markby mark raudonis - Café LA Re: Long takes -- take my workaround...please - 18 years agoCall me crazy, but I HATE subclips! Don't see the need for it. Also, I don't see why you are "renaming" a clip. If your only goal is to add that info for identification purposes, you can put it in a "comments" column. Before you all start flaming me, let me describe our workflow. We handle thousands of hours of media (40+ terrabytes) for multiple "reality shows"by mark raudonis - Café LA Re: Ultimatte Advantage does not work with FCP 5 - 18 years agoIf you have after effects, the exact same software will work. We bought advantage before 5.0, where it worked wonderfully. 5.0 did bring us some problems and so our work around is to do the greenscreens in AE and send em back to fcp. Works great... but not as smooth as we'd like. I'm going to call them tomorrow and see what's up. Markby mark raudonis - Café LA Re: Lost our entire movie..... - 18 years agoI gotta agree with John here. Whenever this happens everyone blames FCP. Truth is, it often has nothing to do with FCP and more to do with external hardware or simply bad practices. While I sympathize with the problems facing Brenan, anyone who uses FCP in a professional situation (makes a living off of it) should NEVER leave themselves so exposed to catastrophe. Sorry. That's just the way iby mark raudonis - Café LA Re: Ultimatte Plug-in purchase Q - 18 years agoAs I recall, we bought it directly from Ultimatte. No resellers at all. Mark PS... the power of this keyer is truly amazing... and the same plug in works for AE or FCP.by mark raudonis - Café LA Re: NO!! We can't fix it in post! - 18 years agoAdam, You've certainly hit the "hot button" for many of us here who make a living out of "fixing it in post"! If ONLY it was as easy as saying, "Do it right in production". Every show is different, but there are a million reasons why something ends up having to be "fixed in Post". Sometimes, despite everyone's best efforts, an oversight occurs. Or...by mark raudonis - Café LA |
