Markby mark raudonis - Café LA Re: Avid Layout for Final Cut - 15 years agoWhat ever happened to "Educating the client"? Markby mark raudonis - Café LA Re: Avid Layout for Final Cut - 15 years agoJeff, There have been many threads about this topic, "Making my FCP keyboard look like an Avid". While the opinions are split, I'd go on record as saying this is a BAD IDEA. FCP is NOT Avid, and trying to make it work like one is going to cause more frustration and pain for the new user than just biting the bullet and learning the differances. I say this because if you change someby mark raudonis - Café LA Re: Onlining/Upconverting - 15 years agoIn the Burbank area, I'd recommend "Alpha Dogs". www.4alphadogs.com (818) 729-9262 Terry Curren is the owner and can certainly help you figure out the best workflow. Good Luck. Markby mark raudonis - Café LA Re: CAPTURE BIG ENDIAN AUDIO - 15 years agoQuoteorkinmanpThe tapeless system (A PC BASED FRENCH SYSTEM) operates as follows: -it allows detailed descriptions with media fields for advanced searches -it allows producers to make stringouts of media -it allows producers and AEs to create clip bins with desired media -it does a bunch of other needless crap, etc, etc, -xmls are then created which point to media in clip bins and strinby mark raudonis - Café LA Re: Europe - 15 years agoNick B, I can confirm that your Mac's power supply is 100/240 capable. The only thing the "World Traveler" kit does is to supply you with the correct "outlet" configuration. Once you get it plugged in, the internal transformer "senses" the correct voltage at it just works. (Joey alludes to it with his "B" version) It sounds like you're stuck in "Avid think" where you have to have everything in the same project in order to work. That's NOT the case with FCP. The suggestions above were meant forby mark raudonis - Café LA Re: Sharing work for re-edit out of office - 15 years agoDebe, Here's my take on why many producers may have this impression of digitizing. First, a bit of history. In the days of old (linear) an editor HAD to look at all available footage. There was no shortcut for knowing what you had to work with. Then came the NLE. Early versions had so little storage that again, an editor HAD to selectively digitize ONLY what they would REALLY want. Thby mark raudonis - Café LA Re: recording voice over - 15 years agoKoz, "has anybody used any of the USB micrphones"? Are you serious? There's been plenty of posts about sucessfull users of USB mics. We've got several of these: (Blue: "Snowball USB mic" They're not cheap, but they work great for temp or even "serious" vo work. Markby mark raudonis - Café LA Re: Sharing work for re-edit out of office - 15 years ago"I'l be better next time but you won't believe it nor will I. I just get too involved in what I do." That's like saying I know it's gonna hurt, but I'm sticking my hand in the fire anyway! How dumb! Lot's of people claim that they're "too creative" to be organized. I say, BS! Organization is the key to creativity. Tell them to stop their whining at start thinking about story! Markby mark raudonis - Café LA Re: Need Info on FCP and Unity - 15 years agoKevin, If you ONLY want to repurpose their storage, that's a different issue. X-SAN WILL work with NON apple storage... you just have to work harder to set it up. This is a much different issue than trying to "hang FCP" off of a Unity. I'd suggest rephrasing the question: What do I have to do to connect non APPLE storage to an X-SAN? Good luck. Markby mark raudonis - Café LA Re: long term FCP project..World Changing - 15 years agoMichael, The Frameline stuff looks incredible... kinda like any logging program I've ever seen on steroids. Interesting that much of the most recent media management software is coming from Europe. Must be the water. Markby mark raudonis - Café LA Re: FCP 6 XML disaster - 15 years agoDear "Festering", You can rant all you want, but the fact is, you didn't ask your on-line house what version of FCP they were running BEFORE you upgraded. Therefore, you upgraded too soon and now you're in this mess. Frankly, I would let the on-line house figure it out if they want your business. Incompatability between versions is a fact of life in this business. Always has bby mark raudonis - Café LA Re: Trouble Writing project to disk - 15 years agoKoz. Koz. Koz. Stop scaring the kids! Copy to digibeta? Not very efficient, but it would work. LTO drives mxf only. For back up, saving the Quicktime seems redundant. Buy larger drives so you have less of them. 750 gigs are now pretty cheap. Markby mark raudonis - Café LA Re: FCP 6 problems with re-capture - 15 years agoAndy and Tom, I can confidently say that this is a "New Wrinkle" in FCP 6. We've been successfully Media Managing half hour and one hour shows with multi clip and without multiclip for the past few years. The only change in our set up is the upgrade to "6". Nick's right, the company is varasoft, but the product is "wirecast". Now let me get back to my wire wheels, darn it! Markby mark raudonis - Café LA Re: FCP 6 and opening a FCP 5.04 project - 15 years agoNo problems opening old sequences in new version, however, we ARE experiencing two issues: reconnecting media occasionally will ONLY allow you to reconnect ONE clip at a time. The "reconnect all files in same path" option only works sporadically. Media manager now has some issues with "shedding" media in multiclip sequences. We've taken a sequence from 5.12, media manaby mark raudonis - Café LA Re: FCP 6 problems with re-capture - 15 years agoBenjamin, We too are experiencing MAJOR problems with redigitizing media managed sequences. Specifically, we're noticing that Multiclips are NOT "shedding" unused media. This is causing us EXTREME pain, as we totally rely on the classic "off-line" to "on-line" workflow. Markby mark raudonis - Café LA Media manager: not deleting unused media, projects moved from 5.1 > 6.0 - 15 years agoWhile Media Manager has never been known for it's good behavior, the follow bug has stopped us dead in our tracks: We've got sequences started in 5.12, migrated them to 6.0 and attempted to media manage. We've discovered that Multicam clips are NOT "giving up" their unused media... in other words, we can't seem to get rid of 99% of the media. We've proven that this is a 6.0 issue byby mark raudonis - The Bug Report Reconnect in FCP 6... one at a time - 15 years agoWe've discovered that the "reconnect" feature in FCP 6 will in some circumstance ONLY connect to one clip at a time, even if the check box for "connect all in same path" is active.
