Preferably something free and not like a DVD tutorial set for $99.95 kinda thing...by mrshow555 - Color Re: Mac memory questions... - 16 years agothanks. and for people looking for mac memory I was reccomended this site which has really good prices:by mrshow555 - Café LA Mac memory questions... - 16 years agoAnyone know a good supplier of Mac Memory? I'm looking for a single stick of 2Gb, which leads me to my next question.. I have a MacBook Pro Intel Core Duo currently with a single stick of 1Gb RAM, can my memory exceed 2Gb since it's not a Core 2 Duo? I thought I read somewhere that only those versions allow more than 2Gb or perhaps it was just that particular type of memory I was looking atby mrshow555 - Café LA Export weirdness...? - 16 years agoOut of the blue FCP starting doing something funny. Here's the deal: We've been doing a series of internet video blogs and when we have a complete cut we export the edit with no graphics etc.... essentially a clean cut. The way we've been doing it for the past few months is Export>Quicktime Conversion with DV/DVCPRO NTSC Best quality interlaced, 16x9 etc... Then put that in it's own seqby mrshow555 - Café LA Re: broken / stuck harddrive ??? repairable? - 16 years agoyeah we left it off for a few days and still nothing. We were in the middle of switching over the files to a new iMac via Migration Assistant when we encountered a transfer error. So we tried again and nothing. Then the old computer wouldn't boot up and we got the folder icon screen. Now we're trying to save the info off the hard drive before it's too late.by mrshow555 - Café LA broken / stuck harddrive ??? repairable? - 16 years agoI have an internal harddrive on one of our machines that stopped working (early iMac G5 PowerPC) and we keep getting the folder icon. We think the harddrive is stuck because it's clicking. We tried removing in and placing it in an external casing to no avail. We're trying the freezer trick, but just in case that doesn't work does anyone know of a good/cheap service that repairs frozen hby mrshow555 - Café LA Sequence question...? - 16 years agothis is probably a basic question, but I wasn't even sure how to search for it. I'm working in a timeline a previous editor made and there are clips in the sequence that are greyed and when you play the sequence the screen just goes black despite the fact that it's opacity is 100. There's no filters or any other settings I can think of that would make it do this? If I open that clip in the vieby mrshow555 - Café LA AC3 audio encoding with Compressor...?? - 16 years agoDoes anyone know of a good link for an in depth explanation of the Dolby 2.0 AC3 encoder for Compressor? I'm working on a DVD that has three tracks of audio and I'm getting a vide bitrate too high error on the build when I use AIFF 48:16 audio. It works when I test it with the default AC3 settings, but the audio then sounds too low sometimes (i burned a comparision DVD with the aiff on audby mrshow555 - Café LA Re: P2 back-up/archiving soltuions...??? - 16 years agowell we really want to have shared storage for the current media but any old media that may be relevant we'd like to be backed up somewhere off the server, but still able to be searched for in Final Cut Server (assuming it can do that) where FCS will probably find the files based on a metadata search and say something to the extent of: "File offline, backed-up to LT03 tape #001" Basiby mrshow555 - Café LA Re: P2 back-up/archiving soltuions...??? - 16 years agoThanks but that's what we're trying to avoid is shelves full of hard drives. We currently have about 13 externals (ranging from 350-2TB drives) for back-up and it's getting rather cumbersome, so we're looking into alternate solutions. Also we want nyone using Final Cut Server to be able to search all our media, even stuff on the shevles that's not online, and find any B-roll etc... that may beby mrshow555 - Café LA P2 back-up/archiving soltuions...??? - 16 years agoAnyone have good solutions for backing up their P2 media after a project has been completed? We're looking into using LT03 tape but then we have the issue of do we back up the original .mxf files AND the quicktime .mov that were created in FCP? Ideally we'd like to intergrate Final Cut Server when it's released. Yet we're not sure if when you back up to LT03 tape and remove the media fromby mrshow555 - Café LA Re: importing HD 720p P2 at lower rez....? - 16 years agops we're using 720p60p so the files are biggerby mrshow555 - Café LA Re: importing HD 720p P2 at lower rez....? - 16 years agoAnd that will work fine if we're trying to set up a server (hopefulyl with the coming Fincal Cut Server software)? We're just trying to figure out what we'll need to do to get an effective set up for sharing HD DVCPRO footage within our office. Right now it look sliek we need to get a supped up Xserve, Final Cut Server software (when available) and a decent amount of server space via an Xserveby mrshow555 - Café LA importing HD 720p P2 at lower rez....? - 16 years agoHow do I import HD P2 footage at a lower Rez (say 20:1) for an offline edit? And then how do you online it when you have your locked final cut?by mrshow555 - Café LA Final Cut Server - 16 years agoWe're looking into possibilities for setting up our Production Office's media server and I came across the announcements for Final Cut Server. Does anyone know more about this and what hardware you also need to run it. Like do I need a seperate MacPro or one of their Xserve RAIDs? I'm fairly new to building a server and want to know more about it before we end up making a decision. Quicktime doesn't recognize them...by mrshow555 - Café LA Multi-cam editing question... - 16 years agoJust curious why my markers are not turning into edits when using the multicam setup? I have Multiclip Playback checked. My Play Sync is set to Open. It switches angles when I press the designated angle button and it even creates the blue markers, but when I press spacebar and pause it. The markers just diasappear and there's no edit slices. Instead it just switches the entire clip to the mostby mrshow555 - Café LA Re: formatting hard drives....? - 16 years agoSo can you format a FireStore drive to Extended to avoid the file size problem? Or would that not take due to the product's firmware?by mrshow555 - Café LA formatting hard drives....? - 16 years agoWhich format is best for external drives being uses for media? Mac Os Extended journaled or not journaled???by mrshow555 - Café LA P2 import icon?? - 16 years agoWhen we try to import some of our clips we get a stop sign looking icon with a ! in it. Is there a way to repair the clips?by mrshow555 - Café LA nm - 16 years agoI figured it out, it was an error in the AE timeline setting (the matte was set to alpha when it needed to be at luma).by mrshow555 - Café LA Re: Alpha channel in FCP - 16 years agoYup did that. It even says Alpha as Straight if I right click the clip in FCP and check out the Format info???by mrshow555 - Café LA Alpha channel in FCP - 16 years agoI exported some clips from After Effects with RGB+Alpha but FCP doesn't seem to be recognizing the alpha layer. I tried both premultiplied and straight settings in AE on the render. What am I doing wrong?by mrshow555 - Café LA P2 cards and the PCI slot on PowerBook G4 ??? - 16 years agoI'm trying to get my P2 card to work with the PCI slot on my PowerBook G4. The cards fit in there (unlike the new smaller slots) but the cards aren't popping up on the desktop. Is there a driver I need or are these two not even compatable?by mrshow555 - Café LA Re: P2 Clip Problems - i i i corrupt files !!! **PICS** - 16 years agoYeah this was odd to me too. The boxes remind me of the camera's P2 menu when in clip thumbnail view. Hopefully someone at Creative Cow might know what's going on. For now we just deleted the old quicktimes and re-imported the clips into the same folder. PS sorry the pics are so huge, I should've previewed the postby mrshow555 - Café LA P2 Clip Problems - i i i corrupt files !!! **PICS** - 16 years agoIs anyone else having a problem with their imported P2 footage going corrupt? We have footage we shot (some on P2 some on the FS-100 FireStore). The P2 files were backed up on external hard drives in seperately labeled folders (which would be used as their REEL Numbers) and then imported into FCP and saved in a Capture Scratch folder on our RAID Tera drives. Everything was fine for a while andby mrshow555 - Café LA corrupt P2 footage !!! - 17 years agoWe recently had a problem with our RAID drives which hold all of our media and had to erase them. So we moved all of our footage off the RAIDS and onto external Tera drives. Then we fixed the RAIDS and brought the media back, reconnected everything but some files seem to be corrupted. The clips have one of two problems. 1. some clips are still the original length, but the screen is entirelyby mrshow555 - Café LA Bars and Tone Question!!! - 17 years agoI recently dropped off a DVCAM tape to be transfered to DigiBeta and the guy just called and asked about my tone. Mine is at -12db and he said DigiBeta is usually 0db and asked if I wanted to change it. What should I do? Will this affect things later on like the sound mix or calibration for DVD lay offs?by mrshow555 - Café LA Re: FCP Audio default question... - 17 years agoI'll give that a try, but even the stuff that was captured in stereo was panned -1, it's always -1, never +1 so I'm not sure if it's the left right thing as you said...but i'll try it.by mrshow555 - Café LA |
