(we also have all the stills on our drives, organised into event folders much live our video rushes) I'll bet FCPX can do something interesting. seems great forby Nick Meyers - Café LA Lots of photographs - looking for a good approach - 9 years agoalong with the 100s of hours of video footage we have on this current project, the director must have shot about 5000 still images as well! i'm wondering what might be a good way to have them easy to preview and select. believe it or not, i've never used iPhoto! but looking at it, it seems pretty good for what we want, except the media is not ideally where i'd want it, which is on our meby Nick Meyers - Café LA Re: watching running video while writing in Word - 9 years agonot on the same computer! but you can play the video in QuickTime or VLC. using QuicKeys you can control the playback apps while working in Word Automator might do that too, i don't know. are you making transcriptions? maybe a dedicated app like InqScribe is worth looking into. nickby Nick Meyers - Café LA Re: What is the last version of MAC oS X which works with FCP7? - 9 years agohi, Loren. i've read in a couple of place that you need to re-instal FCP after an upgrade to Yosimite. give it another go, i'd say. nickby Nick Meyers - Café LA Re: Too many tracks! - what to do - 9 years agoFWIW, i got sick of the 8 tracks, so went though and deleted the last 4 (all empty) using QT Change took a while, but match framing today, so glad i did. Selecting your target tracks is easier in Avid, where you can swipe with the mouse, but in FCP Classic it's too time-consuming. so even now, i don't do that very often, i tend to do an insert somewhere near where i want the clip, then wby Nick Meyers - Café LA Re: What is the last version of MAC oS X which works with FCP7? - 9 years agook, thanksby Nick Meyers - Café LA Re: What is the last version of MAC oS X which works with FCP7? - 9 years agoi'm so out of touch.. when was this last update? was that Pro Video Formats 2.0, from Dec 2014? This update includes support for the following professional video codecs: • Apple Intermediate Codec • Apple ProRes • AVC-Intra • DVCPRO HD • HDV • XDCAM EX / HD / HD422 • MPEG IMX • Uncompressed 4:2:2 This update also adds the following MXF support: • Native impoby Nick Meyers - Café LA Re: What is the last version of MAC oS X which works with FCP7? - 9 years agoon top of what Andreas says, with both FCP Classic, and FCP X on a system, i have found it necessary to rename FCP itself. i have named mine FCP 7.03. we had it tucked away in it's own folder (Final Cut Studio), and still when FCPX was updated, we lost FCP. (at least i'[m pretty sure this happened, we have a few people here, and it could have been some other form of operator error) also,by Nick Meyers - Café LA Re: Reduce Noise from Canon C100? - 9 years agoNeat Video is a really good de-noiser for FCP (and other NLEs) i think the cheaper option is 8-bit and the more expensive "Pro" option is 10bit. nickby Nick Meyers - Café LA SONY creative software - any reccomendations - 9 years agogood news: the people i'm working with won a prize of some SONY software for their previous film. in fact, their film won TWO prizes, which both happen to be the same thing! nominally the prize is for the Audio Mastering Suite but i'm wondering if there's some other sony software that could be more useful for us. anyone out there use Sony Creative Software products, and love them?by Nick Meyers - Café LA Re: Audio distorts/crackles when played in timeline, fine in QT & FCP clip mode - 9 years agoweird. i was first going to suggest that maybe the master audio level of that particular sequence was too high (check in the audio mixer) but it wouldn't really create the effects you describe have you tried more than one sequence? maybe there's a corruption i the one you are using or try another project? trashing FCP preferences might work. nickby Nick Meyers - Café LA Re: What is the last version of MAC oS X which works with FCP7? - 9 years agoFWIW i'm working on a Yosemite system at the moment. FCP7 is working ok. i don't know how to just get 10.9.5, sorry nickby Nick Meyers - Café LA Re: convert 50i into 25p - 9 years agohi, Dennis yeah, my test were on DV PAL, too. we had to blow up a film for theatrical Nattress was best, compared against FCP's (worst!) and another 3rd party tests were done in SD, but i went with the best one. again, i haven't compared w compressor, maybe one day i will, but as i said, i prefer to do the work in a timeline where i can make more informed decisions. cheers, nickby Nick Meyers - Café LA Re: convert 50i into 25p - 9 years agoQuoteCamille But for the rest, can i just create a 25p FCP project and put the 50i footage in it and just add a deinterlace filter??? Is that right? yes, but i would wait till you have finished cutting. Denis, maybe we're both talking without having the full knowledge. i blind tested 3 de-intelace filters in FCP, and Graeme's Smart De-interlace came up the best, in picture quality aby Nick Meyers - Café LA Re: convert 50i into 25p - 9 years agofor the slo-mo, there's also Nattres plug in which i think can do the same thing. not 100% sure but i think it's his Map Fields plugin. nickby Nick Meyers - Café LA Re: Congrats Nick! - 9 years agothanks, guys. i've been very lucky lately, getting a string of really good projects to work on. this one, Paper Planes, and from a few years ago "The Rocket" all were shot on Alexa, which makes great looking pictures. nicer, and more filmic, then Red, IMO. Rocket was all Prores4444 These Final Hours, Prores4444 plus some RAW for VFX Paper Planes was Prores4444, but this time aby Nick Meyers - Café LA Re: convert 50i into 25p - 9 years agofor my money, the best de-interlace in FCP is the Nattress smart de-interlace. for the record, i haven used the compressor one, as i prefer to monitor my results in FCP, by rendering small, appropriate sections. for the slo-mo, what ive done in the past is this: stack 2 version of the clip in FCP. apply de-interlace to both, one set to upper, one to lower, on the top clip, also aby Nick Meyers - Café LA Re: Congrats Nick! - 9 years agoand for my LA friends, a film i cut a coupe of years ago has finally made it over there: (hope the link works) this one was started, and in fact taken quite a long way, in Avid, then we ported the whole film across to FCP set in Perth, where Jude lives, the film is full of crazies, and wild and dangerous people. nickby Nick Meyers - Café LA Re: Urgent -Out of Focus footage - 9 years agoi don't think you're in luck, sorry. (although i'd be glad to hear otherwise) nickby Nick Meyers - Café LA Re: Merge an AVID ALE to Quicktimes - 9 years agosorry, i don't understand Avid ALEs at al. would it be possible to re-name the quicktime file? nickby Nick Meyers - Café LA Re: Congrats Nick! - 9 years agohi Joe. luckily i was on all the way though to the end: until there was a finished master. this is unusual in Aus these days due to budgets, but really it should be the norm. so about 6 months it was a weird, compressed schedule. there wasn't a lot of time to shoot it, and there wasn't a lot of time after that before delivery had to happen (for tax reasons, end of our financial year 30tby Nick Meyers - Café LA Re: Congrats Nick! - 9 years agothanks, Jude, Michael. the film has done amazingly well here in Aus. and went down a treat in Tokyo, and Berlin recently. US distributor is in the works, i'm told. all cut in FCP7 of course, which helped no end with temping up all the FX work. the other NLE i've used recently, Avid, is pretty hopeless in that area, from what i could tell. nickby Nick Meyers - Café LA Re: Too many tracks! - what to do - 9 years agothanks everyone working in FCP7, with our crazy multi-cam shooting, it;s simpler to stack the clips than multiclip them. plus we'll have another track of subtitles. SO most editing will be done from stacked timelines, either copy / paste or editing from a sequence in the viewer. meaning there's not a huge need to delete the empty tracks from the files, as they sit in the TL with only theirby Nick Meyers - Café LA Re: Too many tracks! - what to do - 9 years agoour movs are our masters, as no one backed up the cards! the XML files that accompany the movs refer to there being 8 tracks, but big deal, right? not sure why we even need the XMLs... oh one thing, the XMLs also mention the time the clips was shot. that might be useful for multlcam syncing as the actual TC is NOT time of day. we're yet to test these clips in FCPX to see how it syncsby Nick Meyers - Café LA Re: NTSC footage - every 5th and 6th frame is the same - 9 years agoyou realise that you'll be speeding the footage up? it'll run 20% faster or thereabouts nickby Nick Meyers - Café LA Re: Original is 29.97, compressed to an mp4 is 23.976 - 9 years agoi'd say watch the file though for a few minutes, in particular areas with rapid motion how does it look? nickby Nick Meyers - Café LA Re: Too many tracks! - what to do - 9 years agoQuoteJude Or am I missing something? well, i'm thinking about what happens when i match frame: if the master clips have 8 tracks, then i get them all back when i match frame, and its a bit of a drag having to wrangle the targeting QuoteStrypes Hold option and drag them into a new bin. That should create new master clips. yes, i tried that, and it works well up to a point. (actuallby Nick Meyers - Café LA Re: 16mm transfer formats - 9 years agonot necessarily, 29.97 and 23.976 are compatible in some ways frames (or half frames, really) are added to the film to time it out to 29.97 there'd be some way of doing your new work at 23.976. but it will most likely mean a lot of eye-matchn, which i think you were planning on doing anyway. i don't work with these frame rates myself, so i cant give solid advice on how to go about it.by Nick Meyers - Café LA Re: 16mm transfer formats - 9 years agohi, Harri ideally you should do your new scan at the speed it was shot, so it syncs w the audio but then you already did a telecine (or scan), and synced it all, so i guess you should scan at the same frame rate as your original scan. then you can just drop the shots in. what was your shoot frame rate? what was your telecine frame rate? nickby Nick Meyers - Café LA |
