After Effecby Chuck Spaulding - Café LA Re: Sequence Setting By Association? - 17 years agoAspectHD converts via firewire, ProspectHD converts via capture card but they both produce the same lossy AVI. The reason for wanting to work this way is that I regularly have to combine footage from a Sony F900, Z1, and HVX200 for example and work with several artisans using FCP, After Effects, Illustrator, Photoshop, etc.. So I would like to create a "digital intermediate"by Chuck Spaulding - Café LA Re: Sequence Setting By Association? - 17 years agoThe conversion to the Cineform codec happens in real time during capture, there is no post processing required. This is a huge advantage of time, disk space and quality. I have read some about the bitjazz a codec that might be similar to the Cineform codec, has anyone used or know where I can find reliable information about it?by Chuck Spaulding - Café LA Re: Sequence Setting By Association? - 17 years agoActually what I would like to do is convert all forms of HD(V) to the same file format for post production which would enable FCP to edit without rendering. On the PC I use two products, Prospect HD converts any HD captured through a Blackmagic or Aja card and AspectHD converts all HDV via fire wire to the same Cineform AVI digital intermediate codec. Using wavelet compression it creates aby Chuck Spaulding - Café LA Re: OSX sleep issues / basic maintenance (clarification question) - 17 years agoSorry, I'm new to the Mac, what maintenance applications?by Chuck Spaulding - Café LA Re: Sequence Setting By Association? - 17 years agoNo doubt there are certainly things that Avid is strict about, as I work more and more with HD that's why I'm not working with an Avid. <<<you wanna work in DV? SD? HD? fine... it;s all the one piece of software with whatever hardware you need bolted on.>>> That's great but I thought I could do more, because actually what I 'need' to do is be able to work with HDV, DVCProHby Chuck Spaulding - Café LA Re: Sequence Setting By Association? - 17 years agoHi Koz, Sorry I don't have the foggiest idea of what you just said. I'm hoping it has something to do with the inconsistencies with how Apple configures its clip, render and sequence settings? Plus the lack of tools/information to determine exactly what it is your working with. I have used Avids for 20 years, but I always knew exactly how things were being translated. Such a fundamentby Chuck Spaulding - Café LA Re: Plugin Combination - 17 years agoLike I said Lynda.com has great tutorials for beginners that teach the lpcation and what each feature does. Just out of curiosity why don't you start with Motion. It is much easier to learn and get up to speed quickly. AE is a very good program but it is a great program when you add Photoshop and Illustrator CS2, that's a lot to learn.by Chuck Spaulding - Café LA Re: Sequence Setting By Association? - 17 years agoI've had this debate on another forum, unfortunately it is what it is and no amount of debate is likely to change it. I understand that there's probably even a little bit of security in checking to make sure your sequence setting are set correctly. If FCP was the only application this applied to that would be one issue. But I've sent clips to motion and back to FCP and the clip settings hadby Chuck Spaulding - Café LA Re: Rock solid OSX version and FCP Studio 5.1.2? - 17 years agoI'm new to the whole Mac FCP thing and although I have a few gripes about some of the functionality the one complaint that I don't have is stability. I have been editing on a 2.66 Mac Pro OS 10.4.8 with FCP 5.1.2 for a month and the stability of this system is impressive. I can however, blow up Motion but even that isn't that bad. I mean it crashes and restarts so quickly that I don't loseby Chuck Spaulding - Café LA Re: Sequence Setting By Association? - 17 years agoYes, but the question still remains. I find it particularly annoying to be working in a project and opening a new sequence within that project and having to go through the sequence setup to make the sequence match every other sequence in that project. It might be nice that when you drop the first clip into a new sequence FCP asks you if you want to match the sequence settings to that clip.by Chuck Spaulding - Café LA Re: Render Playback Issues - 17 years agoI have found this to work Working with FCP on a 2.66 Mac Pro if I have a red render bar because of a filter or different media type than my sequence I'll use "option-P" to play them back to see if its what I want. I guess Apple added this functionality so that if there was something that required rendering the user could at least play back that clip as fast as the computer couldby Chuck Spaulding - Café LA Re: Volumetrics Plugins for Motion and FCP - Contact? - 17 years agoPeter, I'm certainly interested in Volumetrics as well as the filters you're adding to the public beta. What are the beta filters and when will they be available? How do I get them? Are there any issues with Volumetrics running on a Mac Pro with FCP 5.1.2?by Chuck Spaulding - Café LA Re: Plugin Combination - 17 years agoRegarding the training issues, there are a lot of good training tutorials on this site, I've noticed that many of the plug-in developers have good tutorials for their products and you could try one of the many subscription training services like Lynda.com. The nice thing about FCP's plug-in architecture is that the interface for many plug-ins is the same so after you've had the chance to leaby Chuck Spaulding - Café LA Re: A Rare Opportunity for A Talented Documentary Filmmaker - 17 years agoWhich college team?by Chuck Spaulding - Café LA Re: Storage Solution Question - 17 years agoIt really depends on what problem your really off to solve. Xsan enables sharing of data between workstations at the file level, two people can work concurrently on the same file, which doesn't sound like what your after. It is expensive and requires constant administration. Xserve RAID allows sharing at the volume level, all workstations have high speed access to the data but only one cliby Chuck Spaulding - Café LA |
