Example: http://www.hd-vo.com/filmoc/oc_film_commission_spots_Mac.htm. If you want to see the correct html code, when you go to that page, select "view" then "view source" in your browser. The code to get the file to play automatically on both Windows explorer, and and other players starts on line 18. Whatever the problem is does not get fixed by downloading a subsequent version for PCs but does seem to work for Macs. However, machines that didn't get the download ofby Travis - Café LA Re: Cleaning Up Bouncing Dialog in FCP6? - 16 years agoHi Marty... A good lesson here. It's been said that sound is 60 percent of the movie, but gets less than 10 percent of the budget and 5 percent of the effort. Most beginning filmmakers have the same problems you've had with sound - They'll scout locations, set lights, spend hours getting just the right camera angles, and never consider the subtle complexity of sound. I tried it with your clip and had no problems converting it to ProRes422. Good luckby Travis - Café LA Re: No Net Video - 16 years ago.... I don't know if what Jeff is seeing and what I'm seeing is connected. They seem to have some sort of connection to recent QuickTime player updates however. On both of my Macs, even the one with Parallels (where I do run both Windows and OSX simultaneously, everything is fine. Quicktime files play normally. The following Quicktime update (last Thursday?) did not solve the problem. On my Macs, all seems to work properly in Safari.by Travis - Café LA Re: Mixer for VO's - 16 years ago...I should add that, for those working in video who want to get the best quality voice-over recording, the ideal solution is AN OUTSIDE STUDIO. Here's why: (1) One of the most important considerations in getting a good audio recording is the acoustic environment of the room where the recording is made. At a good recording studio, someone's spent a lot of money and time making sure that tby Travis - Café LA Re: FEATURE FILM WORKFLOW - sony V1U - WEIGH IN HERE - 16 years ago....If you trust Apple, then going straight to ProRes422 is the way to go. I've been experimenting with HDV straight to Prores (not HQ) and it works great (from a firewire drive) and looks really good.... Then again, I'm always a sucker for everything Apple claims.by Travis - Café LA Re: Mixer for VO's - 16 years agoHi Paul... One of the great things about mixing consoles is that you can recommend one to someone, and you can be reasonably sure that your advice will be appreciated 6 months later. Unlike cameras, microphones, etc., virtually all of the mixing consoles you can buy today are good enough to do an excellent job - they all sound pretty much the same, and their tech specs are beyond the limitsby Travis - Café LA Re: recording voice over - 16 years agoBut seriously.... http://www.musiciansfriend.com/product/Yamaha-MW10-10Input-USB-Mixing-Studio?sku=630204by Travis - Café LA Re: recording voice over - 16 years ago"...Updated for the latest hardware, iMic provides the perfect solution for almost any audio need, including podcasting, GarageBand, iMovie and Final Cut Pro. It lets you connect practically any microphone or sound input device to your iBook, PowerBook, PowerMac or other Mac or PC systems with a USB port. "by Travis - Café LA Re: Open format timeline not working for DV and HD combined - 16 years agoHi Alwerj. The timelines in FCP6 are "Open", in that FC6 will ATTEMP preview playback in realtime, without rendering, anything on the timeline that it can handle. However, if your computer is not fast enough to do a format conversion in real-time, it will require a preview render. Also, adding effects, etc. wil further reduce the ability of FCP to play specific files. I was quite excited to learn that FCS2 included improved Frame-Rate conversion and a new and improved version of Compressor. Although Compressor is actually useable now, I've found that, even though you can add 30/60P items to a 24P timeline, conversion to 24 looks really choppy. At NAB, the FCP folks also talked up improvby Travis - Café LA Re: OT: Need real-time video rotation - 16 years ago...Then, of course, you'll need to mount the monitor on some sort of bearing mount so you can spin it to keep the image upright.by Travis - Café LA Re: Web Compression - 16 years agoHi Jordan. If your audience is primarily Windows PC based, the best format for internet viewing is Windows Media 9 wmv. No other quality, viable format is supported by default on Windows PCs - the quality is great (It's really h.264 modified) and it's simple to implement with Flip4Mac. -On the other hand- If your audience is primarily Mac-based, the best format for internet viewing is Qby Travis - Café LA Re: How to cover mirror reflection? - 16 years ago(From an audio guy)... I agree - the Mac Mini is an excellent machine for particular applications. In fact, I believe that a few years from now, most non-laptop computers will have a similar form-factor. However, the best way to solve your two-screen delema would be with a $1100.00 MacBook - they have an external video port which can be set up either to mirror the main display or serve a second indby Travis - Café LA Re: Capturing to quicktime on PC - 16 years agoMPEG StreamClip WILL convert m2ts to ProRes 422 (and do it pretty quickly too.) - Don't know how good the transfer is technically, but I tried it and it works - The clips look good played from the timeline.by Travis - Café LA Re: is USB 2.0 fast enough for FCP work? - 16 years agoBack On Topic..... I know a few people who edit on PCs using both Firewire and USB drives. What they say is that USB IS fast enough for many video operations, including capture, but USB relies on the CPU to do a good part of the writing and reading work - which means that it can either slow things way down, OR, if there's software running which has a higher precedence than USB disk operationsby Travis - Café LA Re: Is there a plugin to simulate a car crash? - 16 years agoHi again Vic. It's a rather large (6meg, I think, mpeg2 file) of a 1930s era car going over a clif. You may need to wait for a while if you have a slow internet connection, perhaps download it first. The reality: (1) You have an extremely limited budget. (2) Most of the time, violent scenes of this sort don't do anything advance the story - they're simply spectacle - and if they're not done well, they simply remind us that we're watching a movie, pulling us out of the story and back into our theater seats. However I've been through "Hard Knock University" - Many years ago, I learned the hard way, (Lost EVERYTHING!) how important contracts are.
