If you're interested check out . All the best.by Tom Wolsky - Café LA Re: OT - need camera advice - 18 years ago"So - if I shoot in HDV, can I edit in HDV and output to DVD in pretty good quality? Would the quality of this output be better than what you'd get from a PD-170 or a GL2?" I would say yes. Technology's gotten better. Yes, you can go directly from HDV to SD DVD. Though you should be aware that all HD and HDV material is widescreen. I'm really looking forward to being able to use node-based editing to link scripts to narration/dialog to video or any combination of those. The kind of workflow used in newsrooms to integrate scripting and producers/writers to VANDA and editors can be built into this kind of nodal mechanism andby Tom Wolsky - Café LA Re: OT - need camera advice - 18 years agoCompression technology has improved enormously since the DSR400-500 series cameras. What's much better on those cameras is the lens, but the compression on the newer cameras is truly amazing, so good that you can take a HD resolution frame and compress it to the same file size as a DV resolution frame. That truly magic.by Tom Wolsky - Café LA Re: is HDV really worth it???? - NO!!!! - 18 years ago1. FCP can capture and edit 720p30.by Tom Wolsky - Café LA Re: Question about HDV - 18 years agoJust because it's you Graeme we checked the camera again. We shot a whole bunch of tests with the lens capped, wide open, different amounts of gain, multiple charts, solid colors with different exposures and different gain settings. We looked at everything on a monitor and on scopes and can see no split in the screen. The camera came from B&H in the middle of last month. The box was not faby Tom Wolsky - Café LA Re: Question about HDV - 18 years agoThe split screen is not appearing on cameras currently shipping in the US, and I can't speak fro pre-production models or the early releases overseas.by Tom Wolsky - Café LA Re: Anamorphic output to DVD - 18 years agoWhich version of FCP and iDVD? Get Anamorphicizer to change the export file to 16:9.by Tom Wolsky - Café LA Re: Reveil master clip Problem in FCP 5.0.2 - 18 years agoWorks for me. The only time it doesn't work is if the sequence originated in another project.by Tom Wolsky - Café LA Re: AJ-1200A output questions - 18 years agoI don't know about the deck not being able to take TC over FireWire, but FCP does not send TC over FireWire. The normal procedure is to pre-black the beginning of the tape setting the deck to generate TC beginning at 57:50:00. Set two minutes worth of bars & tone, slates, black, countdown whatever and assemble edit at 58:00:00.by Tom Wolsky - Café LA Re: Selecting all: right or Left of cursor - 18 years agoThere are the track selection tools. If you did the FCP HDV capture window will recognize the camera if the settings are correct.by Tom Wolsky - Café LA Re: CAN'T load from JVC ProHD 2 FCP - 18 years agoThe 720p30 format works in FCP without problem. The 720p24 format is not supported. Nor can I find a way for it work with 480p30 or 60, but that's not sure as I haven't tested it enough. FCP doesn't seem to recognize it in DV mode, only as an HDV camera, but I might just not have found the right setting in the camera playback yet.by Tom Wolsky - Café LA Re: Blown out sky, need to change to blue! - 18 years agoDepends on the shape of the sky. You could use a color gradient to blue it. That works quite well if you have a static shot with a horizon that supports it. You can also use Color Corrector 3-way. Use secondary color correction to select the area of the sky. Soften it quite a bit to blend it better. If you're picking up other areas in the selection use two layers and crop or garbage matte off thby Tom Wolsky - Café LA Re: duration for still images - 18 years agoThis only changes the still image duration on importing, not the duration of stills already in the project. To change the duration of still either change it in the browser or open it into the viewer and change its duration there before editing it into the timeline. Once you've edited it into the timeline the amount you can change the duration is limited.by Tom Wolsky - Café LA Re: HDV - YES or NO? - 18 years ago"2. Working with it in FCP is not the smoothest. Capturing might be fine, although it does break up the footage after each and every single camera start/stop. I might not want that. " This is a switchable option in the current version. As far as the Canon goes. It looks like they spray painted an XL2. I'm interested in which one you think it is, or are you just blowing smoke?" I don't think it's either, and I'm not blowing smoke. I think they've tried to fix it, but I starting to reach the conclusion I simply don't think they can, not because they're not competent orby Tom Wolsky - Café LA Re: FEATURE REQUESTS - FCP 5.x BE SPECIFIC! - 18 years agoI would love to see the 50 requests that you believe are implemented from the LAFCPUG feature list. My point of the other items is not that they aren't good features (perhaps), just that they're not things I find on the feature request lists I've seen. The new reconnect is actually an excellent feature and I believe very necessary using Tiger. Garbage Mattes - Now With Accurate Crosshairsby Tom Wolsky - Café LA Re: FEATURE REQUESTS - FCP 5.x BE SPECIFIC! - 18 years agoI have to disagree with Philip on this one. The more I test it the more I find Media Manager doesn't work correctly. I've tried this on a few different machines. It does not behave well, produces inconsistent results. A freeze is certainly difficult for offline, but it should not be a problem for a copy or move function. Even though it's difficult it should be possible to do in offline. Speed isby Tom Wolsky - Café LA Re: FEATURE REQUESTS - FCP 5.x BE SPECIFIC! - 18 years agoAs far as multiple codecs working seamlessly in one timeline, dynamic RT doesn't cut it. Other applications have been able to handle this without issue for some time. It's more than just being able to be real-time playback. It's actually allowing you to work with different formats as if they're all the same. Time remap was very poorly designed in my view. The whole concept of fixed duration withby Tom Wolsky - Café LA Re: Media Manager has been working, now is not. Big problem. - 18 years agoThat's not right. Making an offline sequence to change codec for recapture should be very quick.by Tom Wolsky - Café LA Re: Media Manager has been working, now is not. Big problem. - 18 years agoInteresting Philip. I've tried it on a number of machines with material that's both online and offline and have never had it work correctly. What shows up in the new project is an uprezzed sequence with the low res DV material plonked in the middle of it.by Tom Wolsky - Café LA Re: Media Manager has been working, now is not. Big problem. - 18 years agoI don't know what to say Laura. I've tried similar offline media management and it's not functioning properly. The only thing I can suggest is to use XML export and somehow edit the XML file to give the right information before recapturing. The other option is to make a new logging list in FCP for the material using the correct settings, then recapture and reconnect. Both of these are crap shoby Tom Wolsky - Café LA Re: Media Manager has been working, now is not. Big problem. - 18 years agoIt's freakin' broken. Try reporting it again on FCP feedback. Maybe it'll help coming from you.by Tom Wolsky - Café LA Re: FCP5 Media Manager - 18 years agoAdd a couple or three clips into a timeline. Reverse one of the clips, say the middle clip. Media manage the sequence. See what you get. It needs to do speed and freezes properly. It needs to accurately, consistently, infallibly find the correct piece of media when a project is managed. Why when you media manage a sequence with 20 minutes of material it in do you get one result, and then when yby Tom Wolsky - Café LA Re: FCP5 - 18 years agoPlease please make the media manager work. I can't imagine what would be in the application that would recommend anyone upgrading to another version if the media manager issue remains unresolved. I'm not sure if this is possible without a project database of some sort, which probably means a considerable amount of revision, but it has become really necessary as MM is a major embarrassment and a hby Tom Wolsky - Café LA |
