Andyby Andy Field - Café LA Re: OWC Drives VS. G-RAID - 18 years agoOWC is an outstanding company - we must have purchased 2 dozen or more of their FIREWIRE external drives and only one has failed - and it was an oxford controller card which they overnighted a replacement for and was back up and running in less than 24 hours. As for G-Raids - they are outstanding - lightning fast and reliable - can't go wrong with either - although we've never worked with and Oby Andy Field - Café LA Re: Video after compression Looks Horrible!! - 18 years agoI found that if you are making a DVD two things vastly improve the quality of DVD Output 1. - Export with Quicktime Conversion and export as an Animation Codec - highest quality settings - put the keyframe ever X number of frames - set that to automatic. Then bring in to DVD Studio pro - and set your bit rates - 2 pass VBR etc... and let it rip - makes for a much cleaner finished product. Haby Andy Field - Café LA Re: CHV's Birthday (with a sale) :-) - 18 years agoActually I'm glad CHV made the annnouncement - they have some of the best third party plug-ins for FCP and I thought I'd bought them all...but found some I hadn't.....and the discount makes what's already a bargain (and should probably be incorporated into the FCP Filters) an even better deal -- Way to go Christoph - your effects have helped dazzle my clients and keep them coming back for more!by Andy Field - Café LA Re: desperate - capture not working with QT 7! - 18 years agoIrene another good resource is www.Macfixit.com They've got some very knowlegable folks there who may have already solved yoru problem. Andyby Andy Field - Café LA Re: input VHS video into Final Cut? - 18 years agoThe biggest bummer is that the AJA I/O (which we attempt to capture VHS with occationally - without much luck) is very finicky with unlocked or un timebase corrected video - I know we've tried - you drop a frame - even in uncontrollable device mode - you lose the entire capture - had better luck taking RCA plugs out of vhs feed through a firewire camera (DVX100a) - works perfectly - the camera inby Andy Field - Café LA Re: Walter Murch - 18 years ago"Always abbreviate that ASST editor. That way, period or no, you are covered." Always good to cover your ASST.by Andy Field - Café LA Re: HVX-200 - 18 years agoWe saw the camera at the Government Video Expo in Washington DC last week. They actually had it "under glass" and then pulled it out for a demo for the adoring crowd. A few thoughts... 1. The picture (HD) is stunning (they trained it on the usual Expo still life subjects) 2. The camera is significantly bigger and heavier than the DVX-100 series - although they are shaped about the sby Andy Field - Café LA Re: Animation Stand-Like Moves - 18 years agoKid Stays in the Picture is a must see - outstanding technique that Andy Neil described above... another "flat picture" technique piece of software that's quite nice (and innexpensive) is Still Life at 25.00 it's a steal! No - everything was smooth - but I installed everything fresh on a new drive - so that may be the reason - installed the new system software - then FCP 5.0 I think many of the problems were from upgrading an existing system already on the drive (system software included)by Andy Field - Café LA Re: FCP Studio 5.0 - 18 years agoThe Soundtrack Pro addition is worth the upgrade - it's saved us with a number of audio problems and cleanups that would previously have taken much longer. Motion (included) is a major improvement - as well as DVD Studio pro. Live Type has some nice additions in templates and effects as well. Capture all your material 2. Close FCP 3. Open your capture folder and double click to open in QUCKTIME VIEWER 4.
