Noahby NoahK - Café LA Re: Stuttering motion after outputting with Compressor - 14 years agoI meant Handbrake- give you a better rip IMHO. Noahby NoahK - Café LA Re: Stuttering motion after outputting with Compressor - 14 years agoStart over with Handbrake and rip to proper 720x480.by NoahK - Café LA Re: Problem exporting wmv from FC7 - 14 years agoAnd it's worth every penny- if you're doing this more than once. If it's a one-time deal find someone with a PC to do it for you. Noahby NoahK - Café LA Re: Prores footage to DVCpro50 deck - 14 years agoYeah there's zero reason to ever introduce DVCPRO50 into a Ki Pro workflow. Shoot Prores, edit Prores, deliver ProRes. If you need a DVCPRO50 tape- just run out ProRes to SDI and hit record on the deck. That's it. Noahby NoahK - Café LA Re: Prores footage to DVCpro50 deck - 14 years agoThe KiPro would do this for you- downconvert, SDI out- the whole enchilada. It rocks. Noahby NoahK - Café LA Re: OT : SOS berlin user group malware : HELP!?! - 14 years agoBTW- Google typically blacklists by server and not by url. So if you move to another hosting service you might get out of the blacklist. Noahby NoahK - Café LA Re: OT : SOS berlin user group malware : HELP!?! - 14 years agoIsn't that a blacklisting issue with Google? Seen that on a few sites- real pain in der backside. Noahby NoahK - Café LA Re: Footage Type on the HMC - 14 years agoOk but what's that got to do with 30p over 60i? If you want slow motion you do one of the following- get a camera with variable frame rates like a Panasonic HVX200 or Sony EX1/3. Or shoot at 60p or 60i and playback in post at 24p for a modest, semi-iffy look. Or use a slow-motion interpolation plugin like twixtor. Or shoot film or high speed specialty camera. Personally the HVX200/EX1 route is byby NoahK - Café LA Re: Footage Type on the HMC - 14 years agoWell personally I'm no fan of 30p as it ties your hands both aesthetically and technically. That said, there really isn't a way to not have 30p in a 60i stream and still have a valid NTSC or HD compatible single. So as far as camera-specific technical concerns, there aren't any to speak of. Noahby NoahK - Café LA Re: Studio 2 purchase - 14 years agoI'm a big fan of: if FCP is your hobby do whatever you want to make it work with whatever you've got. But don't complain when it breaks. However- if you're editing for a career/living this is a really silly way to conduct your livelihood. A used Intel iMac can be had for a song- especially on a credit card and then you can upgrade to FCP 7 and be at the expected level of professionalism.by NoahK - Café LA Re: using wireframe to reduce image - 14 years agoYup- a crop or a matte filter on top will fix this. Also always check with a over/under scan area monitor so you get no surprises later. Noahby NoahK - Café LA Re: Studio 2 purchase - 14 years agoIf you have a legal copy of FCP 5 you can upgrade to FCP 7 for $299 through Apple. So what is the problem? Noahby NoahK - Café LA Re: Looking for RED RAW footage for workflow test - 14 years agoHave ya googled- really lots of places if you search for sample r3d filesby NoahK - Café LA Re: FCP certification concerns? - 14 years agoOh yeah- going through the book is a solid idea if you want to be a better editor. You'll learn all kinds of stuff FCP can do you didn't even realize.by NoahK - Café LA Re: Video to Film - Is it still being done? - Sony EX3 / PWM350 etc - 14 years agofilmman Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > I would be very happy to give you all the details > on film outside of this thread. Bit of a cop out but oh well. You're not likely to make too many new digital to film converts in this day and age. Noahby NoahK - Café LA Re: FCP certification concerns? - 14 years agoActually all it says is you know how to pass the FCP certification exam. Which I can honestly say is more difficult and far less intuitive than actually editing with FCP.... Noahby NoahK - Café LA Re: FCP certification concerns? - 14 years agoYup- if you know the FCP book you can pass the cert exam- class is for folks who need more hand-holding or who are just starting. And you can retake it if you happen to fail. It's a hard test but as a ACT I've passed it via studying alone (though of course I took the classes to become a trainer in the first place). Noahby NoahK - Café LA Re: Red One workshops for DIT and Editors - 14 years agoOr you could get my book- not exactly online but a wealth of info: -Noahby NoahK - Café LA Re: Video to Film - Is it still being done? - Sony EX3 / PWM350 etc - 14 years agoIt's hardly ever a requirement any more. Even the high end festivals will be typically ok with an HDCAM SR master you can make from the EX3. So I wouldn't worry about that. And if this is a multiyear project those requirements will be even less by the time you get around to screening. Noahby NoahK - Café LA Re: 5D/7D workflow - 14 years agoIt's basically copy over the H.264 clips the camera shoots and transcode to ProRes. Then you decide if you're going to go with the 30p that the camera shoots or convert to 24p- which can mean some trickiness with sync sound. I'd research it a bit more or maybe get your hands on a training video for the 5D and the post workflow. Noahby NoahK - Café LA Re: Can I uninstall FCP and get it back? - 14 years agoThe FCP app itself is very small but all that content that comes with the install is what's taking up the space- motion templates, apple loops, sound effects, etc. Get rid of those and you'll have more space. Noahby NoahK - Café LA Re: Can I uninstall FCP and get it back? - 14 years agoCan't you just buy another hard drive? I mean 1TB is $300 or less these days.... Wouldn't that be more sensible than having someone send you boxes and CDs from the U.S.? That said FCP of 4 years ago would be in dire need of an upgrade anyways... Noahby NoahK - Café LA Re: Most lightweight and editable codec? - 14 years agoDon't scale it- that buys you little in terms of hard drive savings and gives you a lot of headaches in terms of onlining. Go ProRes and get another hard drive if you need it. A 1 TB Firewire drive is around $300 these days and holds many many hours of ProRes LT or Proxy. Noahby NoahK - Café LA Re: OT: FCP vs Avid - 14 years agoSort of like saying being right handed is better than left handed. It is if you are... Noahby NoahK - Café LA Re: Audio screw up from sound remixer - 14 years agoYeah they probably added a pitch shift to go from 24p to 29.97 sync. Tell them to reverse that and give you the audio synced to the 24p source. Noahby NoahK - Café LA Re: What Format for editing? - 14 years agoYeah there's no downside to 'offlining' it in the native camera format and then doing your final renders out to ProRes. That's about as pristine as you can make things considering the original source. For cleaner source, look into something like an AJA KiPro for direct ProRes capture and skip the in-camera codec. Noahby NoahK - Café LA Re: OT: Youtube in 3D - 14 years agoPolarized is much better but more expensive to implement because it requires two interlocked projectors as opposed to anaglyph(red/blue glasses)which is shown from a single projector. Noahby NoahK - Café LA Re: OT: Youtube in 3D - 14 years agoanaglyph 3D is as old as the hills and easily displayed on something like Youtube. I prefer polarized 3D because you retain a lot more of the color. And I'll get a lot more excited when they can do it without glasses or crossing my eyes. Noahby NoahK - Café LA |
