Higher ups want this re-transferred to 48k, but is there any easy way to do this myself? Working with Prores 422 proxy 1080p 23.98. I tried compressor, however upon reconnect we lost all of the Aux TC info.by TimMirk - Café LA Re: Problems with FCP in Canvas window - 15 years agoWhat about AFI? Their theatre/auditorium up at the top of their campus would probably work pretty decently? Granted I find the room a bit "boomy".by TimMirk - Café LA Re: carpel tunel and editing - 15 years agoMy aunt (an emmy award winning editor) got carpel tunnel really bad. She switched to a tablet, way down low on a seperate table along with a wrist brace. I'm not a huge fan of the tablet personally, I just couldn't get a feel for it after a week. I figured that was enough time. to really give it a feel. I'm also not a big fan of trackballs. For me, I have found that proper wrist angle, aby TimMirk - Café LA FINAL PRICE DROP------ HEADING TO EBAY------- $1100 - 15 years agoFINAL PRICE DROP_ GOING TO EBAY! $1100 to your door! Namely the bigger ticket items. I'm in L.A., are there any storefront type places interested in this type of stuff? I'm talking stuff like L&M console/bridge or generic rolling racks and cases, broadcast monitors and even an MXO2. If he is taking sole possession then I would bail, unless you really need the money. In terms of union arbitration, they are kind of weak on the arbitration front IMO if you are the one fighting for the credit. NTSC SD or PAL HD for 23.98 1080p project - 15 years agoWell the good news is they are getting their hands on an EX3 to match our production. Downside I'm sure will be lighting flicker, but since we are going for an imperfect rough doc. style anyways, we are okay with it.by TimMirk - Café LA Re: What would you choose? NTSC SD or PAL HD for 23.98 1080p project - 15 years agoGoal is a theatrical release, with a definite video release. All of the other material was shot on an EX3 1080p 23.98 and that is the finishing format. No idea the lightning scheme they are planning, but I think I've changed my mind to go PAL HD, as the SD camera they have is a Panny AG-DVC30 and that does not do 24p. I thought they were shooting with the 100 at first. So I'll choose thby TimMirk - Café LA What would you choose? NTSC SD or PAL HD for 23.98 1080p project - 15 years agoSo we have a 1080p 23.98 project. One interview is being shot in another land far far away. Our options are to either shoot in PAL HD, or SD NTSC. Which would you choose? This is documentary type of sit down interview. I'm leaning towards SD NTSC as upconversions are generally pretty good, and it is a sit down interview. Thoughts?by TimMirk - Café LA Re: Video to Film - Is it still being done? - Sony EX3 / PWM350 etc - 15 years agoGranted don't know what type of project but what about investing in a Red? Might be overkill though, as almost all the big festivals will take HDCAM or SR. In terms of EX3, the last feature I did that was wide in theaters had a what we thought was going to be a temp prologue of sorts that was shot on the EX3. The rest of the feature was shot F900. We were going to reshoot the scenes, but ofby TimMirk - Café LA Re: Studio Monitors for FCP - 15 years agoI use M Audio BX5A and they are okay. When I was looking I felt they were the cleanest in the the mids to lower end range. I do feel they can get quite harsh though especially at high audio levels on the high end of the spectrum. Other thing I've noticed is they sometimes are a bit too directional if I sit a bit closer. Good speakers in that price range though.by TimMirk - Café LA Re: OT: FCP vs Avid - 15 years agoI'm on the low end of feature work, and am strictly in that place, but I am well above average in both Avid and FCP. Or maybe it is just feels that way considering the amount of Avid and FCP calls I get from assistants, despite not truly assisting since '05. I know both, own both. My philosophy is that I never wanted to not be considered for a job because of the system it was on. I even knew at oby TimMirk - Café LA Re: re: Editing with a lot of tracks of audio - 15 years agoIt is bad practice IMO to keep things in the timeline disabled. It really doesn't save anyone anything as far as I see it. You are the only one who knows why it is on or off, and when it gets into someone else's hands then what? I find less tracks = less mistakes. Granted I'm just a simple feature editor so I don't worry about these tremendous amounts of mics. When there are 4-6 mics, i always usby TimMirk - Café LA Re: Bad Editing / Bad Pacing - 15 years agoI guess I'm too "new school" and all, but I firmly believe there are several "correct" places to cut between two shots. It depends what you are trying to convey and what story you are trying to tell. Bad or poor continuity is very often gets confused with "bad editing", when in reality it is a production issue. Sure there are ways to minimize it. Early on, I woby TimMirk - Show and Tell Re: Zippy Mac...not so much.. - 15 years agoI had a similar experience, back with an old powerbook G4, and a dual 2.0 G5. Probably not much help but the first time happened after a software update to the OS, QT, security update. A biggie overall, and it magically slowed down beyond slow. I wasn't even using it to cut. Strictly for internet, mail and sometimes after effects. I had lots of programs on this one though. This was back with 10.by TimMirk - Café LA Re: How would you do it- Screening from FCP - 15 years agoWell pulled it off without a hitch. No dropped frames. It took roughly the same amount of "export" time to do it in 5 pieces as it did to do as one long piece for video. Playing the single long piece probably would have worked fine, I just was nervous attempting to play a single 160gb file vs 5 30gb files. The audio export was about the same also, so time creation wise it was a wash.by TimMirk - Café LA Re: How would you do it- Screening from FCP - 15 years agoYea, I'm going to avoid the render, as I just don't have enough time now. They sprung this on me this morning. Was supposed to do an HDCAM, with projector matte. Now it's out the MXO2, no projector matte, and only AES/EBU for audio so I lose my 3 channel mix, as the Matrox only does 2 channels of AES/EBU. Anything to save a buck I guess. Fortunately this is just a screening for producers ofby TimMirk - Café LA Re: How would you do it- Screening from FCP - 15 years agoThe drive thing is the only thing I'm a little concerned about actually. The downside of the MXO2.... it takes my express card slot. I'm running off a Graid 3 via FW 800 getting roughly 48mb/s according to Kona System test. Should be enough to handle the 1 stream of ProResHQ 1080p 23.976. Biggest whoopsie so far is I made my 5 reels, and forgot to put the matte on. Basically now I have to coby TimMirk - Café LA How would you do it- Screening from FCP - 15 years agoSo how would you do it? I'm taking my MXO2 over to the theatre and playing out of FCP for a mini screening. I've decided to export it into 5 reels for video, and one long piece for audio. I then plan on just playing off the timeline. I also have an export of one long piece I could use.
