I'm glas we figured it out.by braker - Café LA Re: is there any sense to getting a pal camera? will I end up with funky color in ntsc? - 17 years agoIf you're worried about NTSC color, it sounds like you want to produce primarily for NTSC. If that's the case don't get a PAL camera. Conversion methods have some a long way, but still in the end standards conversions muck things up unless they have a purpose. If your purpose is to have some element of a "film look", then yes, PAL transferred to NTSC will give you some of that.by braker - Café LA Re: VHS - 17 years agoI disagree with this notion that an S-VHS deck makes for an inferior VHS playback. No VHS deck can give you as clean a signal as even a consumer S-VHS deck can - not even those wonderful "Professional" VHS decks Panasonic used to push. Especially in the case of consumer/prosumer decks, though, watch out for hidden menu items that want to improve playback. Some of them may improve,by braker - Café LA Re: Color correct final SD output, not the HD master? - 17 years agoThat would depend on the circumstances of production and delivery. If production was substantially DV without a lot of rendering / recompression, then DV would be the clear choice. But this baby is clean, don't mess it up now! As for the conversion, I would think frame rate and scaling should happen in one step, so both conversions benefit from the full resolution of the original.by braker - Café LA Re: Color correct final SD output, not the HD master? - 17 years agoJohn K Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Also, I'm planning to downconvert to an 8-bit UC > sequence before laying off to tape; will there > much difference between DV and Beta at that point? > DV would be better, no? Since it hasn't seen DV compression yet, and it will certainly see some sort of compression yet, I would say BetaSP is by far theby braker - Café LA Re: Media Manager almost ready for primetime - 17 years agoThis reminds me of an alternate method especially for Phillip's case (hey, where'd he go anyway?). This will seem like another neanderthal idea. One could take all those bits of non-coded media, and put them on tape, one way or another, with code. Then import that and use it. The tape then becomes part of the archive.by braker - Café LA Re: recording web video from the web - 17 years agoThis is going to sound neanderthal, but I think you'll get the best and easiest reference file by pointing a camera at the screen and pushing "record".by braker - Café LA Re: Media Manager almost ready for primetime - 17 years agoAndrew Kines Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Getting rid of the unused handles of the imported > media does prevent him from relinking to the > original full length files if there is a problem > with the consolidated project but he should be > keeping the original full file somewhere else as > well as the version of the project from beforeby braker - Café LA Re: Media Manager almost ready for primetime - 17 years agoThere's a part of this I'm not getting. Phillip was having trouble getting MM to jettison the portions of the media that weren't actually used in the project, right? But since the media isn't coded and therefore not easily recapturable, he did want MM to keep/archive the actual used media, right? So why would having apparently useful code and reel number cause MM to jettison the unused mby braker - Café LA Re: Modify Mouse, not just keyboard layout... - 17 years agoScott, if you have a "programmable" external device you may be able to set up what you want. I have cheap Logitech keyboards that have about 12 extra keys that acan be programmed. But the best (that I have, anyway) is ShuttlePro, which allows you among other things to program a button to do this on the first click, that on the second click, and another thing on the third. Derek, you read my mind.by braker - Café LA Re: How to best capture footage from DVD? - 17 years ago> mpegstesamship, isn't that the best? Mpegstesamship is now old tech and has been largely replaced by Mpegdesielship and Mpegnucularsub. But MPEG Streamclip is really good at this.by braker - Café LA Re: Full-rez Graphics in Sequence? - 17 years agoSure, but it isn't automatic as far as I know. Drop it in, then oipen from the timeline to the Viewer. Go to motion tab and set scaling to 100. THat's it. Now you can move it around or whatever. If you need to do the same to lots of graphics: 1) put them all on the timeline 2) open one and change scale to 100 3) right click that one on timeline and select "copy" 4by braker - Café LA Re: Connecting camera directly to media drive? - 17 years agoActually, if it's DV you may be able to, I've done it in a pinch when a drive's FW port went funky. Either it will work or it won't. If it does, you'll want to go back to the FW connection for editing.by braker - Café LA Re: Slow motion - 17 years agoMichael Horton Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Read the FAQ > > How do I get good slow motion? Michael, my oldest trick from another system (DraCO!) was to go for 1/3 speed if at all possible. This way, without any special processing, all fields end up in the right place. Same for 1/5, 1/7, etcetera. I would then for a cleaner look double tby braker - Café LA Re: Menu Sliding noises - 17 years agoWow, I am saved! But I have to wait til I get out of deadline to try it. I do, it works great and I just discovered something about it: it will read and display genuine DV timecode. It won't show you the first digit, which is a little unnerving, but it does readby braker - Café LA Re: where can i find a 2pop? - 17 years agoI actually own and control the copyright and performance rights to the audio 2-pop within the context of a film or video countdown. Somewhere in my files I have the owner of the countdown itself. It would be a more lucrative business for both of us if more people knew about the royalties. As it is now we only pay each other and it's a wash.by braker - Café LA Re: fuzzy resolution from files imported from Photoshop - 17 years ago> "Only use DPI when working on/with printed > material or on output or scanned input." Perhaps there's a flavor of AVI output that would be compatible and high quality without having to resort to WMV.by braker - Café LA Re: fuzzy resolution from files imported from Photoshop - 17 years agoThat's much more useful than my rant, Ben! As for understanding the relevance of DPI, the real point is that there is no such thing as an "inch" in video. Your graphics get displayed at many different sizes, and you have no control over that. As soon as you start thinking about video graphics solely in terms of pixels rather than inches or cm. - and ignoring anything you see thby braker - Café LA Re: fuzzy resolution from files imported from Photoshop - 17 years ago> i admit I'm no expert in DPI's etc but it would > seem to me that DPI does have meaning in video. > If the files are from Photoshop it will make a > difference if the file is 30 DPI or 72DPI. Turns out I did have that turned on, and I have been blindly looking at ".app" and ".pdf" without even noticing... just like over there on the dark side! Still seems like there are a lot of files without extensions. But then again maybe I'm really extension-blind.by braker - Café LA Re: Menu Sliding noises - 17 years agoWow, would I hate that. Tell you what, if you can tell me how to turn off the Apple startup "Boooooooonnng", then I'll go out and find out how to turn on sliding and whooshing.by braker - Café LA Re: Can PC users play MP4 files? - 17 years agoKozikowski Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > It's possible to tell your > Mac to hide the file extensions from *you*, but to > place them on the file for delivery. Maybe I'm misinformed. It was my understanding that the entire Mac system had no use for extensions and by default doesn't create them. I know how to view or hide "hidden" fileby braker - Café LA Re: Can PC users play MP4 files? - 17 years agoSomething to remember when sending any kind of file out to the world: Macs don't use file extensions, PCs do. So if you happened to send him that QT without adding ".mov" at the end of the filename it would appear to be unplayable. Until of course you have _them_ add the extension. Not sure what the extension for MP4 is, perhaps ".mp4"? ".mpg"?by braker - Café LA Re: Can I place an In and an Out and cut multi layers out? - 17 years agoNick Meyers Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > DELETE: > simple delete will just extract the selection. > SHIFT + Delete will also close the gap.
