Due to a slower older processor, i am trying to change and render speed effects for multiple clips at the same time so I can render overnight. For example, i have 50 clips that i want to speed up 400% and all the clips are on one timeline. If i select all of them, FCP does not let me modify the speed. I have to select each one individually, change the spby MikeLA - Café LA Re: Got Leopard.... now the pro aps dont work... I cut a travel show last year that will now be picked up by another network. We want to re-use and re-cut interview scenes that include a mike with a logo on it. Anybody got tips on the various ways to have another logo follow around the mike and mask the prior logo? Thanks for any suggestions!by MikeLA - Café LA Re: Exports/Batch monitor take forever? - 17 years agoJust read the article on the LAFCPUG home page "Exporting Project Files for DVDby Larry Jordan" Apparently FCP5 and Compressor dont work well together and this article explains why I've had problems. Thanks again LAFCPUG!by MikeLA - Café LA Exports/Batch monitor take forever? - 17 years agoHi all! Maybe someone can spot an easy answer to this for me and tell me I am doing something wrong I hope. I am exporting a 5 minute NTSC SD promo piece in FCP via batch monitor and it takes 3-4 hours just to output an mpeg4 DVD file and audio file. Is this normal? Can it be so slow? And then when I bring it into DVD pro it takes another few hours just to burn the simplest of DVD's. It seeby MikeLA - Café LA Re: THANKS Re: Anamorphic Mixup - 18 years agoClay, I was given the HD files downconverted on lacie drives to edit in FCP. I understood the reason to be due to the high resources ( memory/drivespace/render time/etc) required to edit in full HD and that a post house would later use the FCP project file to produce the final output from the original tapes. Do you see a hole in this logic? comments? thoughts? experiences? thanksby MikeLA - Café LA THANKS Re: Anamorphic Mixup - 18 years agoGuys.. and Chris /Derek especially, you saved me! I took Chris advice and selected all in the timeline, selected distort, and THEN pasted into a sequence set for 16:9 Anamorphic and VOILA... It is fixed! The original material was downconverted to 720x480 anamorphic (16:9) to work with in FCP. The problem for me was I dropped it into a 4:3 timeline and it got sqeezed into letterbox ( bars/by MikeLA - Café LA Re: Anamorphic Mixup problem re-stated... - 18 years agoSorry. I realized that I stated the problem wrong below. Here's what I meant to describe: What I wanted to do was edit capture files (with item properties box set to 16:9 anamorphic ) into a sequence set to 16:9 anamorphic. What I did was edited HD downconverted footage (with item property settings set to 16:9 anamorphic, but into a sequence also not set for 16:9 anamorphic. What I wanted to do was edit capture files (with item properties box set to 16:9 anamorphic ) into a sequence set to 16:9 anamorphic. What I did was edited HD downconverted footage (with item property settings erroneously not set to 16:9 anamorphic, into a sequence also not set for 16:9 anamorphic. I think the result is what you would call letterboxby MikeLA - Café LA Re: HD1080 easy setup? - 18 years agoThis makes sense to me. But I sure could use a 1 hour class on just HD/SD issues or a tutorial on what all the different resolution options and issues are. thanks all for the feedback on all this.by MikeLA - Café LA Re: HD1080 easy setup? - 18 years agoGreat thanks, I think I get the picture now. I didn't know it was as easy as cutting in SD and then as you say dropping the sequence into an HDV sequence ( at a post house). Timecode is timecode, hi res or lo res right? Ultimately, it will need to be output to film, which I assume a post house can do with the HDV timeline/output? So in general, in cases like this, it is favored to edit in SDby MikeLA - Café LA Re: Can I... - 18 years agothanks shane.... i should have done a new topic. your answer helped. I was momentarily confused about my source and the HD vs downconverting issue. I am new at this stuff. Do folks downconvert HD footage because is is easier to edit in FCP at SD ( ie less memory, faster render, less drive space?). Is the process of upconverting edited stuff to its original footage just something a post housby MikeLA - Café LA Re: HD1080 easy setup? - 18 years agothanks mike, my question was probably not clear... I am on a project where the HDV footage was downconverted and captured at DV NTSC 720/480. I'm editing with a preset for that in a timeline set for that. ( i had originally posted my question thinking that I was editing HDV footage, not downconverted.) If I am editing downconverted footage, how does the final feature output get delivered inby MikeLA - Café LA Re: Can I... - 18 years agoCan I ask for some clarification here thanks.? If I am working with downconverted HD source from a panasonic HDV, editing it in FCP 5 in a timeline set for FCP preset DV NTSC, what is the process of outputting later on from the FCP project file back into HDV? ( this HD stuff is confusing....) thanks for an answer here all.by MikeLA - Café LA Re: HELP!!! HD understanding /or lack of - 18 years agoAn added part for the above question: Assuming the HD footage was downconverted to 720/480 to be edited that way in FCP, in general what is the process of matching up the FCP downconverted edit to the original HD footage for output in HD? How expensive is this option, which I imagine ( correct me if I am wrong) is taken so that one can edit/render faster in FCP at lower res and file sizes, toby MikeLA - Café LA HELP!!! HD understanding /or lack of - 18 years agoHi all, I think I need a brief understanding of working with HD video. I am on a project where footage has been shot on HD panasonic cams. (1080psf23) The footage I have has been captured at 720/480 ( downconverted? )and partially edited into sequences. If I am working with that format, am I able to later output at HD? Or do I need to be editing at HD presets with footage captured at HD.??by MikeLA - Café LA HD1080 easy setup? - 18 years agoHi all, can someone explain to me what i need to setup in FCP 5 in order to start editing footage captured in HD? There are easy setups to set for HD, is it as easy as going into my sequence "setting" and selecting the preset for HD? Lastly, If I have already edited HD footage/scenes into a timesline that was set at my old setting, NTSC DV, does all this have to be redone or will thby MikeLA - Café LA Re: The Art of Editing - 18 years agothanks everyone for a great discussion thread!by MikeLA - Café LA The Art of Editing - 18 years agoHello all, I know this forum tends to be more techy, but I was wondering if anyone could recommend a book as reference that covers the art of editing a low budget film. I've got the FCP stuff down and just looking for a good guidebook to review, that highlights the workflow, setup, and the artistry of a good edit. thanks all.by MikeLA - Café LA Re: After Effects? - 18 years agoThanks Wayne buddy... I'll try this out in the next day or so. Appreciate it. Mikeby MikeLA - Café LA Re: After Effects? - 18 years agoJoey, thanks for the feedback. Your reply deals with the issue I've been going back and forth on alot How much EFX talent do I need to be a good editor, given that it is an area of expertise that people can and should focus exclusively on to some degree, so that Editors can be Editors and FX folks can be FX artists. I am guessing that to be well rounded, and ( to be able also to put together aby MikeLA - Café LA Re: After Effects? - TUTORIAL FILE - 18 years agoWayne, thanks for your help. Everyone here has been very helpful, and I'm learning After Effects as we speak. I'm using version 7.0 and I'd love and appreciate ashort tutorial to get me started with that effect.by MikeLA - Café LA After Effects? - 18 years agoQuestion, as a new editor, can anyone comment on something I've been wondering. Do most good video editors construct their EFX and transitions from scratch, or is it the case as I am finding that packages such as After Effects are what most editors use to do the really cool stuff? Also, i've be looking for help on an EFX which I can only describe. Which audio filter works best? thxby MikeLA - Café LA Re: Audio Configurations HELP - 18 years agoglad you asked and I need to verify with the network, but I think the masters are simply for archive.by MikeLA - Café LA Re: Music Cue Sheets Question - 18 years agoPerhaps FCP does not provide this, and your idea of simply outputting a music EDL is the workaround for FCP. For some reason I thought in FCP the "export OMF audio " function served this purpose.by MikeLA - Café LA |
