'Popups' in the movie "Enchanted" - 17 years ago

Hi! I've seen the movie 'Enchanted' and wondered if anyone knows how those cool 'popups' are working? I mean the ones at the beginning and end of the movie where people and surroundings are being 'collapsed' in the fairy tale book. I saw a short movie about the company who did it and it seems to be an amazing amount of work in it. Still, on imdb it said it was done in Shake. So I wonder if one
