Theory says that straight is less "efficient" than premultiplied black: it requires more multiply and divide operations per pixel during compositing; but it should also provide better quality, because it does not mix color and alpha information... But practice might be very different, mostly with state of the art technologies: GPUs are fast enough and provide high prby PieroF - Café LA Premultiplication and fxscripts - 15 years agoI've been writing a few fxscript plugins and I'd like to clarify some issues I have with alpha premultiplication. I think I understand the theory of it (lot of documents on internet and some discussion also in this forum), but my question is about how the FCP engine internally handles the alpha channel: straight, or premultiplied black or white ? My question comes from the fact that most compby PieroF - Café LA Re: Inexplicable Clip/Settings Clash - 15 years agoThe problem is that from MPEG Streamclip you Export-DV. Instead you have to Export to QuickTime (cmd-E) with Compression: Apple DV-DVCPRO/NTSC, Quality: 100%, fps: 29,97 for NTSC, Audio: uncompressed, Stereo, 48 KHz (this is important...) When imported to FCP with DV-NTSC 48khz settings, the resulting .mov will not require video nor audio rendering. Pieroby PieroF - Café LA Re: Transitions only affecting one frame - 15 years agoI'm afraid that Remove Subclip Limits doesn't solve Jamie's problem, mainly if subclips result from a DV Start/Stop Detect command... Then adjacent media added by the Remove Subclip Limits command does not belong to the same scene, but belong to the end of the previous scene or to the start of the following one. And this doesn't make clean transitions possible. What I do in these cases is to mby PieroF - Café LA Re: Nested Sequence Update - 15 years agoHi Derek, In FCE 4 I tried the copy/paste of a nested sequence in the TL, but I had a different result: the new copy of the nested sequence is "disconnected" (*) from the source copy whether this is in the browser or already nested in another sequence in the timeline. By "disconnected" I mean that a change of contents in the new copy is not applied to the source sequence.by PieroF - Café LA Re: Installing Leopard - Any Precautions?? - 15 years agoAbout non-US keyboard: saving the keyboard layout works, but it makes sense only if you first fix it with the workaround (close FCP, and in the System Preferences/International/Language set English on the top of the languages stack, and then your language back to the top...); otherwise you save the not working layout... Pieroby PieroF - Café LA Re: Installing Leopard - Any Precautions?? - 15 years agoA warning if you are using a non US keyboard (probably not your case, though): FCP 6 and FCE 4 running on Leopard are currently "losing" all keyboard shortcuts, unless you use some workaround. This is a problem with many non US users (including myself); this problem seems to appear only after a clean install of Leopard, not after an upgrade from Tiger. It has been already reported to thby PieroF - Café LA Re: Export edited sequence to Quicktime file - 15 years agoIf you want the movie to be opened by QuickTime instead of FCP when you double click its icon, you must change the Open with field in the Get Info window of the finder. Pieroby PieroF - Café LA Re: Plugin Fix - 15 years agoYou might try this tip, that worked with me in the past: change the plugin suffix from .bundle into .plugin. To do that copy the .bundle plugin to your desktop, make the change while on desktop (you might be asked the admin password), remove the original, copy back the .plugin from desktop to its location in the Plugins folder. Pieroby PieroF - Café LA Re: Got Leopard? Post your problems/joys/thoughts here - 15 years agoDid I miss this problem in this list ? Anyway, in my experience, Leopard has a bug that prevents FCE and FCP keyboard shortcuts to work correctly with non-US keyboards: wrong shortcuts or no shortcuts at all are available in both applications. 10.5.4 update did not fix it yet. There is a workaround. - Open the International panel of System Preferences - click the Language tab - drag &by PieroF - Café LA |
