Situation&Explanation : Im working on a show that is filmed with the SONY PMW-EX1 camera. As you guys know this camera is using SxS cards ( wich are very too expensive by the way ). The production crew have to transfer the DATA from cards on an external HARD DRIby Francois-Michel - Café LA Re: print to tape issue kona card - 15 years agoThe KONA LHe will handle it perfectly. As long as you dont do cross-conversion format, your gonna be fine with that card. The important thing to remember is to set your KONA card correctly. Its important that your frame buffer ( those settings are available via the AJA CONTROL PANEL) is in the same format that your playback output from your editing system, be sure of that. Than be sure tby Francois-Michel - Café LA Re: Confused!!! DVCAM 4:3 or 3:2 aspect ratio? - 15 years agoWhen you choose the NTSC 4:3 preset its normal that you lose some Horizontal---from 720x480 to 640x480 because an image in 3:2 is a bit wider than an image in 4:3 but a bit shorter in vertical. So if you take a 3:2 ratio and try to display it in a 4:3 ratio your original 720 horizontal will be cut to fit in that 4:3 ratio. Correct me if i am wrong guys.by Francois-Michel - Café LA Re: DVCAM capture with deck or miniDV? - 15 years agoI worked for ''Vision Globale'' in the machine room, doing copies and copies and i can assure you that when i played back DVCAM tapes with the adaptor in a DVCPRO deck i had to run a ''cleaner tape'' everytime after. It was even a procedure there.by Francois-Michel - Café LA Re: DVCAM capture with deck or miniDV? - 15 years agoDSR-11 or DSR-45 would be perfect as decks to transfer your footage. If you wanna transfer your footage using a mini-dv camera that camera need to be able to read DVCAM format otherwise you wont be able to play it back in that camera. you wont lose quality using DSR-11 instead of the DSR-45 and you wont lose quality using a camera that read DVCAM format. The important thing is your capture setby Francois-Michel - Café LA Re: 3 way color picker better in FCP than in Color??? - 15 years agoI got a plug-in here who direct you at every new post from joeyby Francois-Michel - Café LA Re: Need a magic solution from you guys ! - 15 years agoIll give a try about thrashing the render before the re-render. I dont have the time right now to open old sequence of that DVCPRO HD project but as soon as i got a bit of free time ill test some suggestions. i love you guys thx.by Francois-Michel - Café LA Re: Need a magic solution from you guys ! - 15 years agoIts not about the monitor, its in FCP as i can see it in the canvas.by Francois-Michel - Café LA Re: Viewsonic Display - 15 years agoWell Jeff, Here in one of my editing room i got a SAMSUNG SyncMaster 245B 24 inch to MONITOR whats outputted from FCP. HD SDI output from the KONA 3 card in a Black Magic HD LINK, from DVI out to the Monitor. It work pretty fine, im working in NTSC. With that display (1920 x 1200 native) i can watch a 1080p content with no problem. Since you need 1:1 pixel mapping to see the best qby Francois-Michel - Café LA Re: Screening Reels For Clients - 15 years agoOf course if you want a really good quality, the encoding and delivering structure of Derek is better (Multiple DVD)by Francois-Michel - Café LA Re: Screening Reels For Clients - 15 years agoI would use the H.264 codec 320x240 QVGA in QT conversion. Reduce the audio from 48Khz to 24Khz 16 bit. Uncheck the prepare for fast start for internet. Choose a notch below medium quality. Choose ''Faster encode single pass''by Francois-Michel - Café LA Re: Files doing the Houdini.. - 15 years agoIm intersted in the brand you would choose guy, here we got Seagate Barracuda 7200 rpm...by Francois-Michel - Café LA Need a magic solution from you guys ! - 15 years agoHow can i change old standard DVD's in Gold...??? Seriously : Its a Title and effect render problem. Maybe someone have already posted something about that, if so just re-direct me to the post if not : Im working on a project filmed in DVCPRO HD 59.94 1080i (Tape). We captured the footage in Apple ProRes 1080i 4:2:2 HQ. There is some ''Infography'' generated by after effect, used inby Francois-Michel - Café LA Re: Viewsonic Display - 15 years agoYou should at least consider a 24 inch display. The point is that to see the full resolution of HD you got to have a 24inch at least, maybe you wont benefit the 24 inch now but if you got to work in the futur in full resolution your gonna have it already.by Francois-Michel - Café LA Re: re: g-tech not detected..... - 15 years agoYeah sometime french translation of movie title give you cold sweat in the back...by Francois-Michel - Café LA Re: re: g-tech not detected..... - 15 years agoSorry Joey...it was late and my brain was freezed...how can i forgot that.by Francois-Michel - Café LA Re: random P2 files won't import into FCP - 15 years agoTry to import 3 or 4 files at a time, not the whole package at the same time.by Francois-Michel - Café LA Re: 24 or 30 Advice - 15 years ago60i is 29,97 fps (30fps). The main point here is it doesnt matter that you capture in HDV since your final product wont be HD. Personnaly i would shoot the spot in 29,97 fps than add a film look in FCP. It doesnt matter if you convert your HDV footage before or after since your final product will be SD. It wont look better if you capture in HDV than convert it in SD when your editing is done.by Francois-Michel - Café LA Re: NEWBIE QUESTION / HI-DEF PROJECT, VHS SOURCE - 15 years agoI would capture the VHS footage in FCP, than make a quicktime. From that QT a post-house could easily upscale that QT in the HD format you want...but it wont be sharp. Is VHS legal anymore ???....joking.by Francois-Michel - Café LA Re: re: g-tech not detected..... - 15 years agoDisk warrior is your last hope, like Luke Skywalker in ....well....last hopeby Francois-Michel - Café LA Re: sequence/project REMEMBERS ists scratch volume! - 15 years agoSome guys here are brilliantby Francois-Michel - Café LA Re: Uprezing from Digibeta to HD - 15 years ago1 - open your digi beta project in FCP. 2 - Be sure your playback output ( alt-apple Q ) is in 525i ( using the digi beta codec ) 3 - Open the AJA KONA 3 Card control panel and be sure your frame buffer is the same as the playback output in FCP. 4 - Right click on the SDI 1 or SDI 2 output( depend from wich one your outputting ) in that control panel and choose the conversion you want, examplby Francois-Michel - Café LA Re: Weird Time code break. - 15 years agoWell, end of the story, RADIO-CANDA (CBC) had a problem on the set with the TC generator.by Francois-Michel - Café LA Re: Editing Consumer HD vs ProSD - 15 years agoTwo schools of thoughts on CCD vs. CMOS...heres a link, make yourself an idea.by Francois-Michel - Café LA Re: Output Editing vs assemble - 15 years agoI really appreciate the answer Jude, but the thing is that i know all of that Edit vs Assemble difference, my question was badly formulated. All i wanted to know was if there was a difference by outputting in ASSEMBLE mode on MASTERING and EDITING since like i said i did some assemble edit on editing mode and not Mastering, and that guy was tolding me that it was necessary to be in MASTERING mby Francois-Michel - Café LA Re: Output Editing vs assemble - 15 years agoOk here is the way i do it. 1 - I black my tape in Mastering mode from FCP. ( TC VTR is in Preset ) 2 - I switch to Editing mode ( in the edit to tape window ), set the IN point in my sequence, copy the timecode from the sequence ( my playhead is on the IN point ), than open EDIT TO TAPE, paste the TC in the In point of the window, grab the sequence in the browser that i want to output drag iby Francois-Michel - Café LA Output Editing vs assemble - 15 years agoA quick one here, i was talking with a guy yestaerday and he said to me that when you output from FCP if you do an Assemble you got to be in MASTERING mode in the edit to tape window and when you do a edit...of course you got to be in EDITING....whats your thought about that guys ? I did some ASSEMBLE in the editing mode and it worked perfectly so...by Francois-Michel - Café LA Re: "This Operation Could Not Be Completed As There Is No Video" - 15 years agoDo you have an other firewire cable...if so try a new cable... Do you have an other camera that could playback your MiniDV...if so try a new camera... Are you sure the settings in the menu Camera are good. Check the Output from camera.by Francois-Michel - Café LA Re: Editing Consumer HD vs ProSD - 15 years agoExactly what Shane says.by Francois-Michel - Café LA Re: "This Operation Could Not Be Completed As There Is No Video" - 15 years ago1 - Are you sure about the format of your MiniDV ? Can you see some images at all in the display of the camera when you playback a tape in it ? 2 - When you open the Log&Capture window you say that you can control the camera (Play,FFW,RW) but there is a black image in the window, no image display at all...is that right ? 3 - When you open FCP to digitize your tapes is the camera alreadby Francois-Michel - Café LA |
