Re: It's been six days, I'm at my wits' end... - 10 years agoI did discover the media directory tip. Very resourceful! I will try to hover over the clip, to! I have lots of TB of active media at the moment, however... But my gut has been telling me it's the card... I don't have any .dmgs on the RAID. I keep active media on it only. I can drag some from my Drobo and do some tests later. John, thanks for confirming. Theby debe - Café LA Re: It's been six days, I'm at my wits' end... - 10 years agoThat is a good alternate solution, Jude! Of course, since this is a history project, they want a full archive. Why can't stuff like this happen on one-off projects that will never see thelight of day again?? Once I've delivered, I will sit down and sort it out. You've all given me good ideas! debby debe - Café LA Re: It's been six days, I'm at my wits' end... - 10 years agoAfter I'd ruled out it likely wasn't bad RAM in the old computer, I was starting to lean towards perhaps it was the eSATA card acting up. That's when I tried the FW800 test... I was really hoping that was the answer... <sigh> Thanks for sticking in with me. I did get a new project v1 out the door without any crashes, which does help point the finger back to the other media.... although bby debe - Café LA Re: It's been six days, I'm at my wits' end... - 10 years agoCrash logs are on my Dropbox for your viewing pleasure. I tried to name them with something that shows what I had done on some of the more recent ones. There are several in there. The Console log, several FCP crash reports, and one brand-new Motion one. I just mentioned 10% because in the old days, that was a common number we tossed out there: There's 2.4 TB available on a 6 TB, 580 GB on a 2 TB, and 350 GB on a 1 TB. System drive has 316 GB available of 437. There is a Boot Camp partition of 62 GB that has 28 GB free. It turns out the CMYK photos aren't actually in my project. The current FCP project is just over 244 GB. They are, strangely enough, both history projects. Both are also standard definition timelines because so much of the original media is 4x3 SD and neither was interested in the extra cost to upres. The third project I pulled out of the PrPro mothballs is 117 GB and that one was always 1920x1by debe - Café LA It's been six days, I'm at my wits' end... - 10 years agoHello, All... Long time lurker, occasional poster... Some of you may remember me... I am having a nightmare of a problem that actually began weeks ago, and culminated in upgrading machines, OSs, some Apps, media drives, and almost every single file but my clients' media, and I still don't have any answers. I think you are right and the FW800 drive is choking on the footage. I got 66.5 MB/s on write and 85.2 MB/s on read in the speed test. The XDCam Transfer .mov file reads 59.31 mbits/s playing back in QT. And now that pesky "bits versus bites" is prolly making me more confused... Sigh. Any insight here or do I need to run another one of their tests?by debe - Café LA Re: XDCam HD Multicam out of sync - 11 years agoThanks, Strypes!!! This client is still on MC 5.5. Does your workflow suggestion change for this version? Still, all very good info! I shall pass this along to my producer so the next time they hire someone to do an offline that they want me to finish in Avid they will hopefully start with ProRes footage instead of XDCam HD out of XDCam Transfer. Initially they thought I'd be finishing iby debe - Café LA Re: XDCam HD Multicam out of sync - 11 years agoI will download that and let you know. In the meanwhile, The producer has decided that we need to move forward on this, so he's having me hand-sync the timeline up in his Avid. (It's not that long or intricate of a timeline, but I do appreciate compatriot sympathy!) I was able to get a timeline out of Automatic Duck into the Avid. The Avid system doesn't see video on the master MOV filesby debe - Café LA XDCam HD Multicam out of sync - 11 years agoHi, All, I've inherited a FCP 7 project. Original media is XDCam HD422 1080p30. It is a multicam project. It was a 3 camera shoot was jam-sync'd. The short version of my issue is that I am not getting consistent playback on my 2.8 GHz MacBook Pro running OS X v 10.6.8 with 4GB of RAM. I'm wondering if I have enough horsepower to play back native XDCam HD? I am hoping to possibly crowd-source a solution to this problem. Technically, it's an Avid problem, but according to Avid Support, the solution is actually in the form of older Sony software that FCP editors may have in their arsenals. I know I've had spanned clips when I just get drag-n-dropped copies of P2 media and have never had any issues with the spanned clips. Just wondering what that caveat may be, as I've never seen it before. Any chance you have a copy of P2CMS handy and could tell me where the setting is to change it from making separate P2 folders for each clip? Then I can know what I'm talking about when I talk to the cameraman. Or at least sound like I know what I'm talking about! That works! Thank-you, thank-you, thank-you! However, that doesn't solve my problem of the empty folders that I have to hand-sift out first. They are easy enough to spot if I search by size...but still... I wonder if using ShotPut is still a better option? Opinions? debby debe - Café LA Re: AVC-Intra on FCP 6.0.6 Question - 12 years agoGah! So it's not me! I've shared this with my producer. If there is a workaround that someone else knows, that's swell and I'd love to hear it! Otherwise, I will recommend that he either just drags-n-drops to the transfer hard dive in the future. Hopefully he will be open to buying ShotPut. If I have to hand-navigate to these 64 folders this time, I will.
