Re: audio scrubbing on trims? - 19 years agoGo to User preferences > Editing tab > and put a check in the box next to "Trim with sequence audio". At least, that's where it is in FCP 4.5. I'm not on 5 yet. It should be somewhere similar, anyway.by Jude Cotter - Café LA Re: widescreen applied to 4:3 DV - anything to be wary of? - 19 years agoIf you apply widescreen bars all you are doing, essentially, is cropping the top and bottom off the picture (or covering them over, if you prefer). There is no distortion of the picture whatsoever. You can distort the picture if you want to with other methods, but the widescreen filter will not change your aspect ratio.by Jude Cotter - Café LA Re: Slightly OT: Copyright Protection Error - 19 years agoJust to update on this. I finally gave in an threw a canopus advc100 into the chain as per BJ's advice and it works without a hitch. For anyone else with this problem, it seems like the DSR does not send out a steady enough signal for the DVD recorder to accept as being within bounds. The workaround is either FCP > firewire > Canopus box > DVD Recorder or, if from tape, DSR11 > Canopby Jude Cotter - Café LA Re: Best chroma keying software - 19 years agoDvMatte is also pretty good. Not that expensive either at $199.by Jude Cotter - Café LA Re: Need More Audio Zot - 19 years agoYou can double it up on the timeline. Just option shift drag the clip up or down one layer, or copy paste it. Turn snapping on to make it simple to find sync.by Jude Cotter - Café LA Re: Can I Lock a Singel Key Frame Property?? - 19 years agoOr you can hold the shift key while you move things horizntally, which will help you to drag cleanly left and right, without introducing vertical movement. You can still move things vertically using this trick, but it takes more effort to actually shift off the plane you are sliding along. The option key trick is great if you want to make pixel by pixel movements, which is often useful when liniby Jude Cotter - Café LA Re: Still picture exporting - 19 years agoAlso, maybe you could try a different file in iDVD to see if the problem is there or in FCP. There are a lot of steps along the way that could be part of the problem. I'm a bit confused as to where you get the error code. Is it in FCP or in iDVD?by Jude Cotter - Café LA Re: OT: More fuel on the rumor of IBM - 19 years agoThis from my local user group. ComputerWorld says the new PentiumD chips are shipping with DRM (copy protection hardware) embedded the inquirers says NO Why should mac users care...wellllllll... if it isn't this old chestnut again: (being dragged out by Wired this time) apparently because of this: is it true ... well maybe Apple have traveled that platform path in the lab to test itby Jude Cotter - Café LA Re: Export errors ;-( - 19 years agoi/O errors are often hardware related. If you don't have another disk to try, move the project to another computer if you can and see if it works ok there. Is the project running off an external drive?by Jude Cotter - Café LA Re: Still picture exporting - 19 years agoThe .mov should work fine. What is the problem you are having in iDVD? Does it give you an error code? Can you describe your workflow between fcp and iDVD?by Jude Cotter - Café LA Re: Who's there? - 19 years agoOr just ask your questions here Sven. Plenty of people willing to help on the forum.by Jude Cotter - Café LA Re: Quicktime import - 19 years agoOh yeah. sorry - didn't read that carefully enough. I'm guessing its a muxed movie. If it is you can convert it into something FCP can use by demuxing it with mpegstreamclip, or toast titanium. Importing quicktimes under 7.0.1 and FCP HD works ok here, so it's probably not a quicktime problem.by Jude Cotter - Café LA Re: dropped frames at the end of a print - 19 years agoDid you do an audio mixdown before laying off to tape? Render > Only > Mixdown. This is not the same as just rendering the audio, or doing a 'Render All". Lots of people miss this, and it's important for reducing the playback load when going to tape. The self contained movie does essentially the same thing by reducing the audio.by Jude Cotter - Café LA Re: Output with timecode - 19 years agoHere's a way to create custom timecode using Simple Video Out (free from Apple). This i a previous post from Victor, ____________________________________________________________________ Wow!!! It did it! Very impressively I might add. 1. I made a Self-Contained QuickTime movie (Not a Reference movie!) from FCP HD which had it's timecode adjusted to 00:57:45;00 before Exporting (Sequence>by Jude Cotter - Café LA Re: Quicktime import - 19 years agoDo you have audio selected in your capture settings? Did you repair your preferences after upgrading to 7.0.1?by Jude Cotter - Café LA Re: Hits in Capture - 19 years agoHas this just started or have you never had it working successfully? Is the Kona card seated properly?by Jude Cotter - Café LA Re: converting wmv files for FCP - 19 years agoGive Flip4Mac a go. I think there's a free trial download.by Jude Cotter - Café LA Re: Alarming download policy from Apple! - 19 years agoMaybe it's detecting a receipt on your system and it's trying to tell you not to bother downloading it because you already have it? Try going to Library > Receipts and see if there is a FCP 4.5 file in there. If so, delete it and try the download again.by Jude Cotter - Café LA Re: sleepy drives in Tiger - 19 years agoGreat tip Robert. Thanks for taking the time to post the solution.by Jude Cotter - Café LA Re: The only two reasons I can't use FCP for Animatic work. - 19 years agoAhh .. from the site Dan linked "Be aware that exporting using the Meridien Codec in AE any size other than 720x486 will fail. 720x486 (D1 NTSC) is the only supported size for the Meridien Codec. As a note, a common alternative to the Meridien codec for exchange with AE is the Animation Codec." So your widescreen size is not going to work at all maybe? Will the animation codec workby Jude Cotter - Café LA Re: Copy and paste motion effects? - 19 years agoHey Derek - there's an even quicker way to pan your clips. Select all the clips and then Modify > Audio > Pan Centre. There is a keyboard shortcut for this but I don't remember it. If you use it a lot you can make a button to put on your timeline so then you just select all your clips and press the button. Noice.by Jude Cotter - Café LA Re: Slightly OT: Copyright Protection Error - 19 years agoThanks BJ, but I doubt the producer is gonna like that workaround Do you know what it is that the copyright protection detector is actually looking for in the video?by Jude Cotter - Café LA Re: I/O error - 19 years agoHave you tried opening an autosave copy? Do any of the autosaves work? Out of interest, have you run Norton's recently? Is your media stored internally or on an external drive? Perhaps the connection has been lost? I've not seen a definitive answer for the No Movie in File thing yet - it would be great to find out why this happens. Trash render files / preferences?by Jude Cotter - Café LA Re: Rendered PSD Images Look Awful - Please Help - 19 years agoSteve - have you downloaded the Quicktime 7 upgrade yet? 7.01? Does it help at all?by Jude Cotter - Café LA Re: The only two reasons I can't use FCP for Animatic work. - 19 years agoI don't know about the auto resize thing. I'd be ..disturbed.. if FCP automatically resized everything I brought in. You could just turn on image and wireframe in the canvas and physically drag the image to the correct size in a couple of seconds, though. As for the second part of the problem - I know there is an issue with Avid's quicktime codec that requires that the export be exactly a partiby Jude Cotter - Café LA Slightly OT: Copyright Protection Error - 19 years agoWe have just been given a new Toshiba DVD recorder which we want to use to dump a DVD copy of a TV show we make once a week. Sometimes it works fine, the whole show is recorded to the Toshibas HDD in realtime and is copied onto a new DVD in about six minutes flat. But sometimes it goes bananas. For no real reason that I can find, during the record to HDD a warning comes up telling me that the pby Jude Cotter - Café LA Re: Rendered PSD Images Look Awful - Please Help - 19 years ago>>FCP cannot handle still images.<< Yes it can. You just need to have them prepared correctly. And since the poster hasn't seen this problem before - since FCP 1 - it's probably something to do with the upgrade, rather than FCP's inherent uselessness.by Jude Cotter - Café LA Re: Copy and paste motion effects? - 19 years agoPaste attributes - select a clip with the correct settings > edit> copy. Select all the clips that need the effect added > edit> paste attributes > select the components you want transferred, in this case, drop shadow.by Jude Cotter - Café LA Re: Repost: Unable to connect to background process - 19 years agoHere's some interesting stuff from 2-Pop <; About a hostconfig conflict with a couple of workarounds.by Jude Cotter - Café LA |
