I've been unimpressed with all the CRT competition to date too, until we got a 4 foot DLP screen for a set just recently - its a Toshiba and the picture is pretty smick. Mind you, its so huge that you can stand in the props bay thirty metres away and still watch it comfortably. I don't know if it's rear projection though .. although surely it must be .. it's very thin for it relative size.by Jude Cotter - Café LA

I'm with these guys on why you would want to do this. Is it because the digibeta is connected to one machine and the beta to the other? Might be easier just to run cables from one room to the other, or physically move the smaller machine when required. I don't know how long your cables can be - but it's a fair distance. Hey Dave - an AFTRS guy huh? The non-optimized media setting, AFAIK, is to warn you if you are about to import media that uses a codec that is not optimised for FCP. Non optimised codecs will make things very sluggish and painful, so its a Good Thing, unless you enjoy the sensation of growing old while waiting for things to happen on your timeline. Yep - it's definitly the lime green thing - I've seen that a few times before on damaged signals. This is much finer, but it is still the lime version, so great info, thanks Koz. I don't think it's the heads, though, because from memory he said his captured source clips were clean and undamaged. So you can export an AIFF but it's empty, is that it? The question is a bit confusing - but cutting clips from your source shouldn't be a problem. What is the file size of the silent AIFF you made? Can you get other sounds out of your computer? Try playing a cd - maybe there is something wonky with the sound in general? Have you got speakers plugged in and turned down?by Jude Cotter - Café LA

Is the source still physically on the computer? It could be that what you are seeing in the viewer is a (previous) render file version, and not the actual clip. Search your hard drive for the original. If it's not there, you can't render it.by Jude Cotter - Café LA

I did tell him to dump his preferences and see if that helped - I'm guessing it might, but I just thought maybe someone had seem something similar before. The snowy clips have no fx - just a sequence exported as quicktimes as far as I know.by Jude Cotter - Café LA

OK I took the footage to the older system and it was a complete no go. Well, sort of. It did recognise that it was a quicktime movie, but it was unable to recognise the codec - which makes sense given that I think it's Quicktime 5. Were there any HD capable systems before 4.5? Maybe if the recipient had a modern enough Quicktime player it would work? Also - while I was there I did a test thatby Jude Cotter - Café LA

Have you tried using 'Non controllable device' instead of NTSC in the capture window? I've managed to get some pretty dodgy stuff in this way. No timecode accuracy of course.by Jude Cotter - Café LA

Or just open both projects at once, and 'tear off' the second project tab from the top of the browser into a new window. Then you can drag the bins from one project into the other to make direct copies.by Jude Cotter - Café LA

It seemed to be very small blocks, sometimes vertical lines of them. Not the normal large block digital drop-out thing, just very fine all over ... as if some sort of light noise had been added. His original footage is clean.by Jude Cotter - Café LA

I just saw some quicktimes from a guy who is having trouble with artifacting on transitions and .. I can only describe it as a very light 'green snow' on his rendered footage. He is using both DV and DVCpro in the same timeline, but I'm not sure why this is affecting rendered footage from either camp. Has anyone seen anything like this before?by Jude Cotter - Café LA

Pull it off Koz - I can't really justify the bandwith at this end I will take the bars into another job with me though and give it a shot on their FCP2. I imagine it won't work because I doubt if it is HD capable, but it will be interesting to see it's response anyway! Also, check your system preferences for something that is happening every 25 minutes - sleep mode? Network time check? Software update? Could be a lot of things, but it sounds suspiciously like something automated that is jamming - autosave?by Jude Cotter - Café LA

What is the dpi of your stills? Try reducing them to 72dpi before importing them, and make sure they are rgb.by Jude Cotter - Café LA

It's illegal to do this unless you have permission from the copyright owners of the Exorcist. When you get pemission, look for a small application called MPEG Stream, which will convert parts of the DVD into quicktimes that you can edit in FCP.by Jude Cotter - Café LA

Why don't you scan something that looks like what you need and use it as a background layer in PS - something that is quite messy to begin with would be good, then you can back off the opacity in PS for a more subtle look. Even just a small corner of one of the documents that has nothing on it would be useful, because you can just duplicate and blend until you have a whole page of it.by Jude Cotter - Café LA

How have you got your tv connected to the mac? A simple path is mac > firewire > camera or deck > rca cables > tv Then start up your camera and tv, then open fcp. Then go View > External video > all frames Video playback should be Apple firewire NTSC (If you are using an NTSC set) Audio playback should be Audio follows Video Techinially, this should send synched video to yoby Jude Cotter - Café LA
