Re: Syncing audio problem - 12 years agoAlex Thanks for that. So this wonderful new function that makes pluraleyes redundant is actually useless? WTF! I have loads of stuff to sync and no claps (or anything else) to use as a reference. Anyone know if this problem has been addressed in the update?by Dom Stevenson - Café LA - X Re: Syncing audio problem - 12 years agoDerek You're all over the place. Take a deep breath and go back to the beginning. Perhaps i should have mentioned i'm doing this while looking after my 16 month old daughter. So yes, i'm a little stressed. In fact she's demanding a trip to the park now so i'll have to leave it there and come back later. Any help gratefully received.by Dom Stevenson - Café LA - X Re: Syncing audio problem - 12 years agoThe footage is 1080p 25 fps and should stay there. I have captured my audio separately (for an interview) on the Zoom at the correct settings. I usually use FCP and plural eyes, with no problems, but decided to give the new version a go. i highlight the clip front the canon and the clip from the Zoom, ctrl click and choose synchronise clips. It creates a new clip but the new clip is 23.98 ratherby Dom Stevenson - Café LA - X Re: Syncing audio problem - 12 years agoStrypes Everything is shot at 1080p 25fps on a 5d mkii. The Zoom was set at 48hz. The problem is that when i make a synchronised clip it becomes 23.98. It turns out i had the wrong project settings, but have put them right now but the problem persists.by Dom Stevenson - Café LA - X Re: Syncing audio problem - 12 years agoOK. So i have changed the project properties which were wrong and now everything is 1080p. I have re-synchronised the two clips i wish to use and the synchronised clip is now 1080p too. Unfortunately it is still 23.98 rather than 25fps, so i still have the same problem. Hmmmm....by Dom Stevenson - Café LA - X Re: Syncing audio problem - 12 years agoSo it seems my project properties are 720p 60p. I was under the impression that it would automatically set the project to 1080 25 fps when i started importing my footage from the 5D? What's the best way forwards now? I've not started cutting so could easily go back to square one and reimport from the media cards, but i'm sure there is a much simpler way around this.by Dom Stevenson - Café LA - X Re: Syncing audio problem - 12 years agoHi Derek, thanks for the swift reply. OK, think i've seen the problem. the new synchronised clip's specs are 720p and 23.98 fps when the original is 1920 by 1080 25 fps. So i guess i need to get this clip consistent with the others. What's the best way to do this, and why is this happening?by Dom Stevenson - Café LA - X Syncing audio problem - 12 years agoWell i've probably watched half a dozen tutorials on youtube, and watched the Steve Martin tutorial i bought several times, and i still can't sync my clips from my Zoom H4. The fact is, the "good" audio from the zoom is not in sync with the bad audio from my 5d mkii. So having ended up with a synchronised clip and done everything the tutorials say, the clips are still not in sync. Whatby Dom Stevenson - Café LA - X Re: Flip to FCPX - 12 years agoThanks for that Mark. In the end i took the clips i'd transcoded and imported them into a new project and so far so good. It's amazing how good much of this Flip stuff looks considering how much the camera costs. My only gripe is i now have 2 projects with the same footage, and when i right click on the new one and try to consolidate it there is no option to do it. Anyway, this is my first forby Dom Stevenson - Café LA - X Re: Totally confused! Help! - 12 years agoSome more observations. The clips that have stabilisation issues have been chopped up into half second clips. WTF? i try to be an efficient editor, and "less is more" is my mantra, but this is ridiculous. Further, when i check any clip in the inspector it says its a h.264 file when it is supposed to have been converted on entry. It's beginning to look like i'm going to have to stby Dom Stevenson - Café LA - X Totally confused! Help! - 12 years agoOK, so i finally got the Flip camera working with fcpx - thanks Craig S - and spent a few hours trimming and loading up the many clips of our baby daughter's first year. I went for the optimise media option and several analysing options, and i now have a transcoded media folder on my 2nd drive with another folder inside called High Quality media. All the clips are there as trimmed and will play iby Dom Stevenson - Café LA - X Re: Flip to FCPX - 12 years agoOk, Thanks Craig, seems to be all working now. A bit of fresh air and it worked out fine. Operator error presumably. Unfortunately more than half of the clips do not have the purple line running through them, and will not play at all. I can right click on them and reveal them in the finder on my 2nd drive, and play them in Qtime from there, but FCPX will only show me a still of the first frameby Dom Stevenson - Café LA - X Re: Flip to FCPX - 12 years agoThanks Craig. Have to go out now but will check your suggestions later and get back. Thanks again. Dby Dom Stevenson - Café LA - X Flip to FCPX - 12 years agoMy girlfriend has been given a Flip camera and we've been having fun shooting stuff of our 14 month old daughter. It seems like a good time to give FCPX a go but when i try to import the options are greyed out. I had a look at the "supported cameras" page and no sign of the Flip. What's the best way to get this stuff into FCPX? Cheers Domby Dom Stevenson - Café LA - X Re: Positive - 12 years agoMichael Horton "Thank you Craig for lessening the noise in this forum" Seconded. I'm really enjoying going through Steve Martin's excellent tutorials. If more of the naysayers did the same, they too would find much to be excited about in X. I predict that that within 18 months this app blows the competition out the door. Hopefully sooner.by Dom Stevenson - Café LA - X Re: FCPX on latest entry level MBP - 12 years agoTim LOL. Yes, jumping the gun a bit. And yes it's Sunday (or was). Not bashing anyone, just noticing the forum has been taken over by the X hatefest. Meanwhile i'm enjoying the new program.by Dom Stevenson - Café LA - X Re: FCPX on latest entry level MBP - 12 years agoThanks John. I know it meets the requirements, just thought it would be good to get feedback from someone actually using that model in FCPX. I guess i can have a play on one of the machines in Regent's Street before i take the plunge. Btw, Loving the new range selection tool. Very cool. As is the audio sync. This app is really growing on me.by Dom Stevenson - Café LA - X Re: FCPX on latest entry level MBP - 12 years agoSheesh! So many people indulging in the - rather tedious IMO - hyperbole of the X hatefest, you can't even get a simple question answered around here. I'll come back when everything's settled down. In the mean time, i'm finding lots to like about the new app, though i realise it has major shortcomings for many. But with Steve Martin's excellent Ripple download as my guide, there's much tby Dom Stevenson - Café LA - X FCPX on latest entry level MBP - 12 years agoLooking at the entry level 2011 13' macbookpro 2.3 with Intel HD 3000 graphics card. I won't be buying for a while yet, but will be travelling in the summer with this machine so the 13 is quite appealing, and with the thunderbolt port it ought to be pretty fast either way. With the cash saved i'd buy a thunderbolt compatible external HD and a big monitor, so i think it could be a formidable system even with the integrated GPU. So far i'm not having much luck, and one think i've noticed is that after Cinematools the size of the clips has changed from 1920 by 1080 to 960 by 540. Is this supposed to happen or am i going wrong somewhere?by Dom Stevenson - Café LA Re: Using freeze frames on bumpy clips - 14 years agoThanks everyone. I was in Iran last year, and have many shots of the lovely turquoise tiles that adorn the mosques there. Because Iran is not the greatest place to walk around with a video camera - as well as being ridiculously hot - i often went out without a tripod, to keep a low profile. I also had to zoom in a fair bit making steady shots even harder. "also, it might be best toby Dom Stevenson - Café LA Re: Using freeze frames on bumpy clips - 14 years agoThanks Jeff. I know exactly what you mean, however i'm doing some quick montages of mainly wall tiles and think i might be able to get away with it in small doses. Another trick i do sometimes, is to take the smoothest part of the clip and fit to fill it so i'ts a little slower, but less bumpy. Does this cause loss of quality too? and is it preferable to making a still?by Dom Stevenson - Café LA Using freeze frames on bumpy clips - 14 years agoAlthough i often use Smoothcam, it's time consuming and i've discovered that where static shots are involved, i can get away with simply performing a shift/N and dragging the still on top.
