Spin it any way you want...opinions are opinions and since I do not have a choice, I have an opinion. I don't like this subscription model and people are gonna know about it. Everything depends on what you are doing / how much RAM you have. IMHO there's just not enough horsepower on that machine to do massive FX compositions. AE is a RAM hog. I am doubling my RAM to 16 GB on my MBP (the last of the 17's) because it's not giving me enough preview time / app drags in heavy comps. I just heard about it today...still on the fence (nice write-up Walter). I have had my head buried so deep in the weeds since January that I missed all the shows / details and the first peek I take, I get hit in the face with a lynch mob of angry Artists / Editors weilding pitch forks and torches cursing Adobe. You absolutely get what you pay for here so think about that carefully before putting your livelihood in a canvas bag. I wouldn't move a desktop in anything less that a Pelican or Nanuk (I have both - that are indestructible):by grafixjoe - Café LA

This is not for the faint of heart. There is no magic pill for this to look good Troy. It takes massive amounts of time and endless frame-by-frame tweaking to make it look right. It all depends on how far you wish to go. I have only seen it done to individual images successfully.by grafixjoe - Café LA

If you are mainly a cutter only, you can use what ever makes you comfortable. BUT...those of us that are FX / COMPOSITE-heavy, AVID is not the best option IMHO. I have learned to bounce from FCP7 to AE quickly over the years but if you are switching away from FCP, there is no better set-up than Dynamic Link from Premiere Pro to After Effects. ...and I am currently evaluating Smokeby grafixjoe - Avid Media Composer

GoPro Hero3 Black Edition (I have one of these) - tons of settings including 1080p @ 60 fps and 720p @ 120fps / built in WiFi so you can use the GoPro app on your iPhone as a monitor / camera control. Waterproof. Amazing technology. Everything is not fisheye out of this camera as you can adjust the Field of View in the menu settings (Ultra Wide / Medium / Narrow). ...pretty sure any software will not allow you to control where the lines appear in the frame. That is random. Unless you render the effect (lines) over transparency and edit over your footage on the frames you want them to appear over (there is always a way).by grafixjoe - Café LA

My 2 cents: I do not think it is necessary for separate forums at all - just makes for more clutter. I suggest we keep the "The Other NLE's" forum and start EACH NEW THREAD TITLE with the NAME OF THE NLE in ALL CAPS with colon - for example: PREMIERE: How do I make a cut in the timeline? The content is killer. Nice camera work / angles. Edit was good overall. My 2 cents on few observations I would have addressed in post: I feel it needs a few slick graphic punches. I saw a quick plain title identifying the narrator - immediately forgot his name. Needs 5 seconds screentime with a build on and off. He even mentions that 11 11 is it's own brand / it's own logo / it's own identityby grafixjoe - Show and Tell

No cloud for me (yet). I dislike contracts, dongles and storage I cannot touch (I was with an online storage company for a few weeks - complete waste of time - deleted my account and they won't stop calling me to come back). I like to collect my legit (paid for) registered Serial Numbers. Some Engineers are hard cases because THEY CAN (I got an HDCAM tape back once from Showtime because the titles were not INSIDE 4:3 centercut titlesafe). Others are super-cool and will help you if you ask them. Don't expect help...but being nice and asking politely goes a long way. Most folks are grateful to have a job these days. ALWAYS BE GRATEFUL!
