Re: Creative Cloud Open Letter - 9 years agoQuoteIts pretty clear here for those of you who just do not want to be forced into anything. Don't do it. That's a pretty silly statement, don'tcha think Mike? It is nowhere near that simplified. For those of us that have to keep up with the latest & greatest software to keep clients coming back (I was upgrading at least bi-annually)? Some of us have to do it...no choice. It affects my boby grafixjoe - Adobe Premiere Pro CC Re: Creative Cloud Open Letter - 9 years agoSpin it any way you want...opinions are opinions and since I do not have a choice, I have an opinion. I don't like this subscription model and people are gonna know about it. Not that it will accomplish anything, but the petition is at 4180 signatures and climbing. I guess I am not the only who doesn't like forced subscription.by grafixjoe - Adobe Premiere Pro CC Re: anyone successfully using After Effects CS6 on newest macbook air? - 9 years agoEverything depends on what you are doing / how much RAM you have. IMHO there's just not enough horsepower on that machine to do massive FX compositions. AE is a RAM hog. I am doubling my RAM to 16 GB on my MBP (the last of the 17's) because it's not giving me enough preview time / app drags in heavy comps. I am also running a 27 inch monitor from it as well as 3 CalDigit VRsby grafixjoe - Adobe Premiere Pro CC Re: Creative Cloud Open Letter - 9 years agoI know...but you have to be on the internet to re-up if you let it lapse (check in once a month). Don't like it...sorry. Want the option of license ownership...period. No check-ins.by grafixjoe - Adobe Premiere Pro CC Re: Creative Cloud Open Letter - 9 years agoQuoteif you needed the software for just a month sometime down the road, create a new Adobe ID and run the Trial for 30 days. I don't like work-arounds when it comes to my software. I don't want to create another Adobe ID. I just like to PAY and know it's MINE until I decide I need the next version. Like I said, I usually do a full upgrade every 2 years or so. SOmetimes I Will skip a version if Iby grafixjoe - Adobe Premiere Pro CC Re: Creative Cloud Open Letter - 9 years agoIf anyone's interested, a petition is out there to eliminate the forced subscription model:by grafixjoe - Adobe Premiere Pro CC Re: Creative Cloud Open Letter - 9 years agoI just heard about it today...still on the fence (nice write-up Walter). I have had my head buried so deep in the weeds since January that I missed all the shows / details and the first peek I take, I get hit in the face with a lynch mob of angry Artists / Editors weilding pitch forks and torches cursing Adobe. I just found out why. I was pi$$ed at first when I heard...because I upgrade every 2 yby grafixjoe - Adobe Premiere Pro CC Re: Recommendations for a traveling case to protect Imac? - 9 years agoI would ask Pelican - they are the masters at protectionby grafixjoe - Café LA Re: Recommendations for a traveling case to protect Imac? - 9 years agoYou absolutely get what you pay for here so think about that carefully before putting your livelihood in a canvas bag. I wouldn't move a desktop in anything less that a Pelican or Nanuk (I have both - that are indestructible):by grafixjoe - Café LA Re: Will a usb 3 drive with a thunderbolt adpater provide thunderbolt speeds? - 9 years agoRule of thumb has always been that throughput is only as fast as your slowest connection.by grafixjoe - Café LA Re: Upping a clips resolution* - 9 years ago1280x720 to 1920x1080. You will have to test. $99 is out of your budget? You can't put a price on quality...unless quality is not an issue.by grafixjoe - Café LA Re: Upping a clips resolution* - 9 years ago1. I have had great results from RGS Instant HD: 2. I have had great success taking a ProRes 422 QT sequence export and exporting it from QT Pro to 1080 Prores with a minor (visual) hit - looks great.by grafixjoe - Café LA Re: EA SPORTS: Tiger Woods PGA TOUR 14 "Launch Trailer" - 9 years agoCheers Michaelby grafixjoe - Show and Tell Re: Lichtenstein look - 9 years agoThis is not for the faint of heart. There is no magic pill for this to look good Troy. It takes massive amounts of time and endless frame-by-frame tweaking to make it look right. It all depends on how far you wish to go. I have only seen it done to individual images successfully.by grafixjoe - Café LA Re: From FCP to AVID - your experience* - 10 years agoIf you are mainly a cutter only, you can use what ever makes you comfortable. BUT...those of us that are FX / COMPOSITE-heavy, AVID is not the best option IMHO. I have learned to bounce from FCP7 to AE quickly over the years but if you are switching away from FCP, there is no better set-up than Dynamic Link from Premiere Pro to After Effects. ...and I am currently evaluating Smokeby grafixjoe - Avid Media Composer EA SPORTS: Tiger Woods PGA TOUR 14 "Launch Trailer" - 10 years agoTiger Woods PGA TOUR 14 has released March 26th. I created the "Welcome / What's New" video on the game disc and the "Launch Trailer" (audio artist: Rob Reinbolt) is posted here:by grafixjoe - Show and Tell Re: great slo mo - 10 years agoGoPro Hero3 Black Edition (I have one of these) - tons of settings including 1080p @ 60 fps and 720p @ 120fps / built in WiFi so you can use the GoPro app on your iPhone as a monitor / camera control. Waterproof. Amazing technology. Everything is not fisheye out of this camera as you can adjust the Field of View in the menu settings (Ultra Wide / Medium / Narrow). You will want all the mounting gby grafixjoe - Café LA Re: Can anyone recommend a plugin to create film scratches/lines? - 10 years ago...pretty sure any software will not allow you to control where the lines appear in the frame. That is random. Unless you render the effect (lines) over transparency and edit over your footage on the frames you want them to appear over (there is always a way).by grafixjoe - Café LA Re: When downloading stock footage from Videoblocks which is better? - 10 years agoIMHO: MP4 is NOT better...unless you don't care about visual quality...it is highly compressed - not a work format. Strictly final delivery - not for transcoding.by grafixjoe - Café LA Re: MacPros Europe - 10 years agoThis is very old news - everyone knew this was in the works...which will push Apple to speed it's response:by grafixjoe - Café LA Re: Suggestion - Separate NLE Forums for LACPUG - 10 years agoMy 2 cents: I do not think it is necessary for separate forums at all - just makes for more clutter. I suggest we keep the "The Other NLE's" forum and start EACH NEW THREAD TITLE with the NAME OF THE NLE in ALL CAPS with colon - for example: PREMIERE: How do I make a cut in the timeline? AVID SYMPHONY: Cannot see my FX panel - please help... SMOKE: How do I use this thing? Thisby grafixjoe - Café LA Re: How do I export with Alpha channel? - 10 years agoI would do ProRes 4444 / Straight (MUCH smaller file).by grafixjoe - Café LA Re: EA SPORTS: Tiger Woods PGA TOUR 14 "Legends Intro" - 10 years agoThanks Mike. Nice camera work / angles. Edit was good overall. My 2 cents on few observations I would have addressed in post: I feel it needs a few slick graphic punches. I saw a quick plain title identifying the narrator - immediately forgot his name. Needs 5 seconds screentime with a build on and off. He even mentions that 11 11 is it's own brand / it's own logo / it's own identityby grafixjoe - Show and Tell Re: Who's in the Adobe Cloud? - 10 years agoNo cloud for me (yet). I dislike contracts, dongles and storage I cannot touch (I was with an online storage company for a few weeks - complete waste of time - deleted my account and they won't stop calling me to come back). I like to collect my legit (paid for) registered Serial Numbers. "The Future of Editing"? nah. Maybe for a certain type of edit...but there are many different styles that this wouldn't help with IMHO.by grafixjoe - Café LA Re: Broadcast: What is needed? - 10 years agoSome Engineers are hard cases because THEY CAN (I got an HDCAM tape back once from Showtime because the titles were not INSIDE 4:3 centercut titlesafe). Others are super-cool and will help you if you ask them. Don't expect help...but being nice and asking politely goes a long way. Most folks are grateful to have a job these days. ALWAYS BE GRATEFUL!
