Re: Broadcast: What is needed? - 10 years ago...you may get lucky and they will simply give you all specs / formats / procedures gratis. Broadcasters today really do want you to hand them the correct assets (they are too busy for revisions). Ah, I remember the good old days like it were yesterday... when an Engineer would throw a tape back in my face because the colors were just outside scope standards or the whites were slightly above 100by grafixjoe - Café LA Re: Broadcast: What is needed? - 10 years agoContact Broadcasters in your market area and ask for consultancy rates.by grafixjoe - Café LA Re: Broadcast: What is needed? - 10 years agoMy 2 cents: Since your experience with Broadcast TV is naught, I recommend hiring a Professional Broadcast Consultant that can walk you through the necessary steps and guide you as needed. I would also contact target "Broadcasters" and ask them for spec sheets on what tyoe of format / files / tapes they accept.by grafixjoe - Café LA Re: Thunderbolt RAID suggestions, please - 10 years agoThat means "since I have owned it". One unit over 3 years, the other 1 year. Find a way to save $$$ another way...not compromising your data (with crap drive units) - which is the most important thing. LaCie & G-RAID units are not recommended by me - ever. I don't care who has had good luck with them...I have lost way too much data on these 2 manufacturer's units via major failures. That onlyby grafixjoe - Café LA Re: R-Name gone in 10.7 - Alternatives? - 10 years agoNice one Jon. A bit pricey if you only want a batch re-namer tool @ $99...but if someone needs a suite of media management tools, it looks to be worth itby grafixjoe - Café LA Re: blue line (flare) filter - 10 years agoI bet it's Video Copilot's Optical Flares. It's all I use (After Effects). Supremely customizable & sexy - best flare plug-in out there:by grafixjoe - Café LA Shocking news...RIP Michael Clark Duncan @ 54 years old - 10 years agoI was completely shocked to hear this just now. What a massive talent and just a really nice guy. Will be sorely missed. Shocking that something could be so terrible that he could extinguish his own bright light. I will miss him dearly. Condolences & prayers go out to his family.by grafixjoe - Café LA RIP Director Tony Scott... - 10 years agoHe must have been deeply disturbed. Apparently...he killed himself. I would design some kind of side bars to fill those areas (logo / particle animations / motion bkgd / etc). Please tell whomever shot it this way to not do that anymore.by grafixjoe - Café LA Re: Moire filter or technique for post? - 10 years agoSorry Troy....I screwed myself on my very first major 7D shoot with horrific moire. Could not fix in post. I ended up treating the footage "way over the top" as "behind the scenes / damaged" footage with Magic Bullet Looks tricks. Could not use it straight. This came from shooting in 720p. I ONLY shoot 1080p out of my 7D now and the moire is minimal. You could try this DSLRby grafixjoe - Café LA Re: Blowing up ProRes 422 to create a CU - any way to do this without loosing resolution? - 10 years agoNo you can't. It is not a "blow-up" if source is larger than the comp (and the OP didn't mention that anyway). If you lay in a 1920 x 1080 clip into a 720p sequence and do nothing, that's not "blowing it up". You cannot BLOW UP the footage (scale it up) without losing quality...period. You can "scale it up" maybe 10% which is when softness & artifacts start apby grafixjoe - Café LA Re: Flash effect - 10 years agoToo Much Too Soon is my fav (and a link would help, right?):by grafixjoe - Café LA Re: Blowing up ProRes 422 to create a CU - any way to do this without loosing resolution? - 10 years agoYou cannot "create CU's" from preshot footage without losing quality...period. You CAN get a better result if you use the custom settings in Red Giant Software's "Magic Bullet Instant HD 1.2" (try the DEMO first)by grafixjoe - Café LA Re: The Mountain, Moved... - 10 years agoSo what? You should really announce when the next iteration is out. Before that, it's just "iCrash". There is a BIG CHUNK OF APPS that are not clear to run on it: No thanks...not yet for me. Guinea pigs...have at it and report back with the crash reportsby grafixjoe - Café LA Re: Exporting from FCP 7.0 to play via USB Drive on TV at conference - 10 years agoNot too many formats will play full frame rate from a USB Flash drive (if that's what you mean - not very clear). I would say a full size 8 to 10mbps H264 would be your best bet.by grafixjoe - Café LA Re: Off topic - what is a good font for a web address on project - 10 years agoHelvetica boldby grafixjoe - Café LA Re: SLIMMING EFFECTS ??? - 10 years agoI can't believe I am saying this... Thinking about this a bit...if it's not a tremendously high-end project you might "get away with" using After Effects and the plug-in "Mesh Warp" (included in the package). You can selectively add columns & rows to the mesh, manipulate the points (this distorts the clip beneath it) and keyframe the mesh. I would not use this techniqueby grafixjoe - Café LA Re: SLIMMING EFFECTS ??? - 10 years agoI can see that "Ugly" effect used on a ton of Wedding videos...by grafixjoe - Café LA Re: time remapping 101 - 10 years agoMotion / FCP Time Remapping tools stink IMHO...especially for ramping and super slomo. You need a higher end tool: Twixtorby grafixjoe - Café LA Re: What software do you recommend for backing up projects? - 10 years agoAs far as the client supplying drives and expecting you to use them, even if they are cheapskates, in pre-pro it is our responsibility as Post Production peeps to recommend and suggest safe alternate solutions to safeguard their data for the work unit and backup unit - and RAID "1" is an inexpensive no-brainer. Just duplicate the project over via FW800. No recommendations for Windowsby grafixjoe - Café LA Re: Maya animation frame output format? - 10 years ago...you guys win the digital pi$$ing contest Cheers Just as an FYI...I do full compositing / grading of assets given to me by the game teams here @ EA - they are for either in-game or marketing (Internet display / Jumbotron / Broadcast TV). I deal with many different types of assets including flat geometry passes / shadow passes / reflection passes / etc...all exported out of MAYA and all witby grafixjoe - Café LA Re: Maya animation frame output format? - 10 years ago...nothing like a digital pi$$ing contest on a Fridayby grafixjoe - Café LA Re: Maya animation frame output format? - 10 years agoCheers mate. Well...worked / works for me for 15 years. The files are clean and easily converted (and probably smaller at that bit rate). The human eye would never pick up the difference between the 2 files on internet or television anyway...so I would still go with the smaller one. If I was going 2K or larger, TIFF sequence would be a better choice.by grafixjoe - Café LA |
