Arabic Text - 11 years agoI'm doing 9 language versions for a recent project. Amongst a few european languages also Chinese, Japanese, Russian and Arabic. I need to copy/paste the characters from each Word .doc for each language. So far, I've gotten everything to work except for Arabic. Word for Mac shows that the typeface displaying the Arabic characters is Arial. Seems weird, but Ok, it displays in Word or in Texby ClayC - Café LA Re: transferring files to ugh Premiere - 11 years agoYou can trim down the PPro interface quite easily and roll your own layouts just as in FCP. The UI is a lot more detailed because there are a lot more features and more powerful tools (the title tool to name one), but you can make and save an FCP-ish layout without much effort at all.by ClayC - Café LA Re: Cutting a playout into chunks for upload - 11 years agoYes, that would help somewhat, but I'd still have to set in and out points. I installed Paragon for transfers to FAT32 drives. It gets you around the 4GB limitation.by ClayC - Café LA Cutting a playout into chunks for upload - 11 years agoIs there a tool that quickly, easily cuts a large QT file into smaller chunks? I need to upload various versions of an 8GB ProResHQ file in segments no larger than 2GB. Being able to drop my file into a tool (automator script?) that would let me define how many segments and or what maximum size each should be would be brilliant to have. Obviously I could just export in segments from the timeliby ClayC - Café LA Re: Am looking for a thread or an article telling me what I would miss from FCP if I go to Premiere - 11 years agoAs with any new software, there's a learning curve. But, PPro is very similar to FCP7 in many ways and has, imho, a far more advanced feature set (plus 64 Bit = performance). It's also platform independent as well as being widely compatible with other NLE's. It will only take you about a week with your choice of training resource (the Premier Pro Classroom in a Book is one) to get comfortableby ClayC - Adobe Premiere Pro CC Re: Mac Pros? Something happening? - 11 years agoLosing the tower would seem logical. I'd actually be surprised if they didn't. Sitting here looking at my old G4, our old G5, 4 MacPros of various generations, 2 iMacs and a MacMini I am very curious to see what the future may hold. I would venture too that if the line is to be continued, it will include a totally new form-factor.by ClayC - Café LA Re: Mac Pros? Something happening? - 11 years agoYep, new chips and some rocking good new graphics cards out there too. A new pro-oriented machine from Apple would restore a lot of the lost trust at this point. Still, not taking any cash bets just yet.by ClayC - Café LA Mac Pros? Something happening? - 11 years agoLooks like maybe something's about to give. Apple Store delivery times have suddenly gone from 2-3 days to 1-3 weeks on all models. Either they're running down the inventory (could be) or there's been a sharp increase in demand (don't see a reason why). Seems to me one of two possibilities: 1. They're about to EOL it (shudder). or 2. There's finally something new coming. Hopingby ClayC - Café LA Re: make video look like a painting - 11 years agoPhotoshop can also be your friend for something like this. If you know how to use image sequences and can use the automated actions function in Photoshop (not hard to learn) you can build great looks. Not as quick as dropping on filters in FCP, but can deliver excellent painting style results (amongst other things). If you have Photoshop and can handle the workflow, you may not need to buy anyby ClayC - Café LA Re: New MacPro much faster rendering compared to Nehalem? - 11 years agoRendering what exactly i.e. what footage with what effects using what drives? All those things make a difference. I wouldn't put those kind of bucks down on that machine just now. Certainly not just to run FCP at 32 Bits and 4GB of RAM. You'll get a bit quicker render times from the processors, but nowhere near enough improvement to justify the price tag. Here's one guy's comparison:by ClayC - Café LA Re: MacPro 2.66 QuadCore Nehalem - 11 years agoOk. Understand. That price was for an older model MacPro. However, since FCP7 is only using about 4GB of RAM (it's a 32 bit app), I wouldn't expect you'd see much difference at all between the two machines you mention with basic editing. The new iMac of course has Thunderbolt, which will become more interesting as time goes on. But you could equip the older MacPro very cheaply with an eSataby ClayC - Café LA Re: MacPro 2.66 QuadCore Nehalem - 11 years agoThe current wisdom is to wait on the MacPro. At some point, say 1st half of 2012, Apple will either come out with an upgrade or a major re-design or even possibly discontinue it entirely. So, unless you really need one for current work, and can afford to take a gamble, don't do it just yet. You sure about your pricing? The cheapest MacPro sells here (Germany) for about 2.000 Euros + VAT.by ClayC - Café LA Re: Need help on FCP 7 color correcting overexposed film! - 11 years agoStep 1 to learning: Go to the FCP Help Menu. Basic info there. Step 2: The internet is your friend. Just google for Blend Modes in FCP or Composite Modes (same animal) in FCP.by ClayC - Café LA Re: Matchmoving a video background of an ACTUAL Building to ACTUAL Actors on greenscreen - 11 years agoBest matchmoving software is Mocha. There's a learing curve involved, but once you get into it, it's excellent. If you have or have access to After Effects, the basic version is already there. Upgrade to Pro for something like what you're talking about.by ClayC - Café LA Re: Slightly OT Footage Search - 11 years agoThanks for the links guys. Didn't know about AP, sent them a mail to establish contact and start talking. Critical Past has a lot of what I'm looking for too. Yes, there is a budget. It's the search and sourcing which eats up considerable time and thus money too. Appreciate the help. Cheers, Clayby ClayC - Café LA Re: Need help on FCP 7 color correcting overexposed film! - 11 years agoWith underexposed images one can try using blend modes to regain some of the details or at least force some brightnesss into the highlights. This won't come anywhere near to restoring it totally, but might leave you with a "look" you can live with. Overexposed is downright nasty. There's precious little that you can do unless you have an original log type image (like a Redlog .r3d filby ClayC - Café LA Slightly OT Footage Search - 11 years agoWe're doing a job which involves designing a world 50 years into the future which will be populated with a lot of electronic gadetry. Amongst other things, lots of infoscreens showing the past, i.e. today's world. We need news footage for this: dramatic current events on a grand scale like climate change, political upheaval, armed conflict, protests, pending collapse. On the verge of apocalyptby ClayC - Café LA Re: OT: Despite new CPU options, Apple reportedly questioning future of Mac Pro - 11 years agoAnd I'm still learning PPro. Which I'm finding to be exactly what I wanted Studio to become i.e. not "just" an editor, but a great suite of apps. But, Ok. Got it and lovin' it. CS6, from all I've read and heard, should be major too. April or so. Very much looking forward to that release too. Yup, very interesting times ahead with lots of excellent options. Win, win for the uby ClayC - Café LA Re: OT: Despite new CPU options, Apple reportedly questioning future of Mac Pro - 11 years agoNice one. Here's the Bugatti. 240 cores and 16 GB's of GPU power sounds about right.by ClayC - Café LA Re: OT: Despite new CPU options, Apple reportedly questioning future of Mac Pro - 11 years ago<<I've gotten some excellent recommendations for Windows configurations for both Avid and Adobe.>> I need to upgrade one suite like right now or latest, end of the month for an upcoming job. I'm torn between buying the current MacPro (to see it get eol'ed a week later?) or heading over to a PC. I've seen plenty of solutions on how to configure a PC that is similar to the currentby ClayC - Café LA Re: OT: Despite new CPU options, Apple reportedly questioning future of Mac Pro - 11 years agoTwo guesses: 1. My gut feeling is that the rumors are right. They'll eol the tower as we know it soon. Because; a) the form-factor is totally obsolete, b) after dropping Studio they don't make software anymore that even requires a MacPro and, c) thunderbolt offers the potential for external slot expansion. I just hope that they don't pull the plug on it from one day to the next as with Stuby ClayC - Café LA Re: Blackmagic playback from timeline to HD monitor. - 11 years agoNot exactly sure what you mean. Easiest solution would be to write to Blackmagic Design's support team - the link is on their site - with more specifics (which intensity model, your machine, your connections) and they'll be able to sort things out for you.by ClayC - Café LA Re: O/T Drive crash. - 11 years agoDepending where you are, local police forensics lab, the FBI, CIA, MI6, Le Securité, Bundesnachrichtendienst, Homeland Security. No big deal for those guys. Or a data recovery service ($$$$$$$$). They charge by the MB recovered. But there are Mac shops around (no, not the Apple retail stores) that have their own tech guys. Try that, saved me on a few occaisions. If you're in a big metroby ClayC - Café LA Re: 7D or 5D - 11 years agoNeither. And, I'd rather not shoot at all if I was being forced to use one or the other and didn't have the option of chosing the right tool for the job. Like he said, have a look at the F3. I did a grading job recently for a car shoot where they tried to skimp and used the F3 for principal photography, and a 5D for on-boards etc. The F3 won hands down. They had one of the smaller booths, and I remember passing by but it was pretty crowded there, now I know why. Thanx, Clayby ClayC - Adobe Premiere Pro CC Re: Adobe Purchases IRIDAS - 11 years agoHere's the post-Amsterdam update after seeing, talking, touching, learning: Tangent Element Panels: Nice, big improvement. Much more solid build quality than the Wave. Balls are the same but track better. Rings are very nicely engineered, very DaVinci panel-like feel and solidity. Very crisp white parameter displays instead of the blue ones on the Wave panel. Release date sometime aroundby ClayC - Adobe Premiere Pro CC Re: Adobe Purchases IRIDAS - 11 years agoYup, actually going there. We're off to see the wizard(s)... Thanks for the heads up on the new tangent panel. Looks like that will be stop #2 on the exhibitor tour. Will post whatever we can learn about Speed Grade and the Element here next Monday or Tuesday. Clayby ClayC - Adobe Premiere Pro CC Re: Adobe Purchases IRIDAS - 11 years agoWhoa. Nice move by Adobe there, a grading tool was all that was missing. Heading off to the IBC in Amsterdam this weekend anyway so that's definetly the first exhibitor booth I'm headed to. Maybe they'll have something more to say about when, pricing, etc...
