Re: Does Color 1.5 run on an iMac? - 13 years agoYes, Color will run on an iMac in single screen (as opposed to dual screen) mode. It's pretty cramped to use Color that way, but it will run. You do however need a three button mouse i.e. one with a scroll wheel.by ClayC - Color Animating across 3 screens - 13 years agoWhat is the best way to approach this (in PAL 25fps): I need to do a 3 screen project. Each screen is 1920x1080. Backgrounds, text and graphics elements need to animate across the screens. For example, at some points they share the same background, or text animates from left to right, or a mask animates across all 3 etc. If it were SD, I could image setting up a 2160x576 project, and theby ClayC - Motion Re: Red Workflow - 13 years agoGraeme, very cool, that's what I've been trying to argue lately, thanks for your blessing. Cheers, Clayby ClayC - Café LA Re: Red Workflow - 13 years agoGraeme, What is the advantage really to the entire offline proxy/online workflow (other than disc requirements)? Most of the time I'm working in 1k or 2k, and delivering QuickTime file masters. I've tried several of the RED workflows, but I'm finding it cheaper, faster and easier to have an outside facilily transfer the RED footage as shot via RedRocket to ProRes4x4, and then work in 4x4 allby ClayC - Café LA Re: Presentation with Freezeframes - 13 years agoLooks we're going the DVD route, at least for the first time out. Thanks for all the thoughts / input.by ClayC - Café LA Re: color looks? - 13 years agoColor looks are in the Color FX room. Park your playhead on a clip. Go over to Color FX and drag one of the presets from the ColorFX bin into the node window. From there, it's practice makes perfect to see how the nodes work and how to build up a tree. The manual explains the bare bones basics. Far better is the PeachPit book: Color Correction in Final Cut Studio (yep, here in the lafcpugby ClayC - Color Presentation with Freezeframes - 13 years agoWhat is the best way to do this?: Client wants to do a live presentation with video support. The idea is, the video plays a segment, then stops at a predetermined point. The image then freezes at that point or perhaps loops. The speaker does his thing, takes a question or two, then hits play (spacebar) to continue. This happens 8 times over the course of the presentation. The presentatiby ClayC - Café LA Re: boosting low audio? - 13 years agoHi Clay, Clay here, you might give this a try: Works pretty well with low level vox. You'll still need to do some sweetening, but it might save the day.by ClayC - Café LA Re: New camera - 13 years agoBuy a Scarlet. Oops, forgot, dang. They've been making us wait forever for that one. Then get into the EOS loop. But it's garbage for green screen. And although the camera body is inexpensive, you'll spend at least as much again on rig and accesories plus glass to be able to use it well. Ok, then there's Sony F35. Stunningly good-looking video. Records straight to ProRes too. Dang agby ClayC - Café LA Re: OT: Implied Rights on Infomercials - Usage - 13 years agoNot a lawyer, but if any limitation to the rights and usage aren't spelled out in the production contract, you're basically done for. Once they pay you and you've handed it over without making any written provisions, they can keep using it forever and you're stuck, probably with third party claims too (like talent and music) if you didn't arrange for unlimited usage to begin with. Did they giby ClayC - Café LA Re: History of project edits - 13 years agoUnfortunately no. People have been asking for it (feature request) for years. Especially for sequences. All those browser columns, why not have add one that permanently stamps a sequence with date and time created instead of just date modified? Maybe someday... Meantime, deal with it by adding a date to your clip bins or sequence names. Something like DirectorsCut_Final_081010 or Sourceby ClayC - Café LA Re: Automate Screenshots - 13 years agoHey Gerard, Yes! Exactly that. Brilliant, thanks. Best, Clayby ClayC - Café LA Automate Screenshots - 13 years agoVaguely recall reading about this somewhere: The client's deliverables list includes providing screenshots of every take in every scene (tiff). Wasn't there a way to do this? Something like set a marker at each frame and batch export>still images? Or am I dreaming? Thx, Clayby ClayC - Café LA ProApps Update - 13 years agoGreat to see the forums up and running again. Fast and snappy too. Much, much better, well worth the wait. So how 'bout the ProApps Update that popped up in the meantime? Anyone taken the leap yet?by ClayC - Café LA Re: RED and external audio - 13 years agoPragmatically speaking, what director shoots at standard frame rates anyway these days if he doesn't have to? They're all going off-speed at every opportunity. It tends to make audiosynch a moot point because precious little of the audio recorded on set actually gets into the final tracks. All of the atmos or specific sounds are recorded off-set anyway, away from the walkie and crew chatter.by ClayC - Café LA Re: exporting a Master difficulties - 13 years agoYes, you need Paragon NTFS for Mac to do this properly. Disc Utility will let you format a drive to PC, but you still won't be able to write more than about 4GB to the drive before the transfer crashes/freezes. Paragon allows you to write to PC formatted drives with no limitation. Works great. Check it out over here, it's on sale for 20 bucks. Well worth it.by ClayC - Café LA Re: APPLE RELEASE NEW MACS!!! (In August) - 13 years agoLooks like the machine to run 64Bit FCP8 with RED Raw support on. The new GPU's are real nice, should help Motion and Color (real time?) a lot. Connections seem strange though: 2x USB 2.0, and 2x FW 800 ports on the front. I'd rather have all the ports on the back. FW 400 ports are gone, ok, but then why no USB 3.0? So, no, I don't really need it just yet either, although releasing the nby ClayC - Café LA Re: Export extra widescreen to mp2 - 13 years agoHey Gerard, yep. mp2. But I'm very sceptical that I'm getting a proper brief on what they really need. Apparently it's a 4 projector setup whereby the signal is running from a server and then through a splitter, but doing the math I don't see how it works out to 3.25:1. Whatever. Meantime I've sent them an h264 (works fine, even at 3510x1080). Clayby ClayC - Café LA Export extra widescreen to mp2 - 13 years agoStruggling to get this one out the door: Master is ProRes 4x4 2k 2048x1152 @ 25fps. All done and approved. The client however also has an extra widescreen projection room at their museum which requires a 3510x1080 (3,25:1) playout. I was able to build a re-edit in FCP at that screensize (a number of split screens involved, so it worked well). So now they're telling me that they want a plby ClayC - Café LA Re: Is Raid 1 fast enough to edit in? - 13 years agoJust Google for USB 3.0 and LightPeak. There's plenty of buzz out there, has been for awhile. USB 3.0 is showing up on the market already for Windows users. Mac shouldn't be far behind. BlackMagic Design already has some devices on their site. The specs are pretty impressive. LightPeak is farther away, although in all due respect I'd question whether it's 5 years away as Jeff Harrell mentby ClayC - Café LA Re: Is Raid 1 fast enough to edit in? - 13 years agoAnd it looks like we're in for some big game-changers soon, like working in uncompressed HD or ProRes 4x4 on USB 3.0. Or LightPeak. I wouldn't put any money into firewire drives at the moment unless absolutely necessary. It's all gonna change, hopefully with some new MacPros.by ClayC - Café LA Urgent: Warp Distort - 13 years agoHi All, I need to replace a video screen in a rather wide shot. I can mask off the screen easily enough, but I need to warp the replacement image to fit accordingly. I've run into this problem in Motion often. Is there a tool out there somewhere? Happy to pay for it. There's gotta be a way.... Need it yesterday. Thanks, Clayby ClayC - Motion Re: Have you seen this? Apple Event at NAB on Wednesday - 13 years agoYep, Adobe is pushing the limits and doing a very good job promoting this release with follow-up events coordinated worldwide. It's quite amazing. They've called in the cavalry, heavy artillery and the marines on this one. Taking the lead. Setting the standard. Showing Apple how it's done, and taking the user very seriously with a strong focus on perfomance. The new specs and tools in Premiby ClayC - Café LA Re: Export Quicktime conversion size export size settings - 13 years ago1440x1080 is HD (sort of) anamorphic. The proper display image size would be 1920x1080, which is 16:9 aspect. If you're using export with quicktime conversion it's because you want to change the codec and/or scale it. So, chose your codec and set the export size to a 16:9 aspect, commonly 1920x1080 or 1280x720 or 960x540 etc. If you don't want to change the codec, just use export quicktime,by ClayC - Café LA Re: Trouble digitizing DVCProHD via Firewire - 14 years agoYes, just install it in your non-Intel G5. Make sure the card you're buying is compatible and of course that you have a free slot. If you go for the Sonnet, send a mail to their support for more info and which slot to use. For the MacBookPro there's this (again, check compatibility): Clayby ClayC - Café LA Re: Trouble digitizing DVCProHD via Firewire - 14 years agoYep, sounds like you're overloading the internal fw bus. Try one of these or similar to give yourself an additional bus. Connect your 1200a via FW400 to your G5. Connect your external FW800 GRaid drive with your media on it to the additional bus. Got an older G5 here with exactly that configuration and it works fine with all flavors of DVCProHD. Clayby ClayC - Café LA Re: Trouble digitizing DVCProHD via Firewire - 14 years agoShould work via FW just fine. Are you using capture now (which sometimes loses audio synch) or are you setting ins and outs and then using batch capture (even if it's just one long clip)?.by ClayC - Café LA Re: Purchas Shake in lafcpug store? - 14 years agoFound one. Problem solved.by ClayC - lafcpug Market Re: Purchas Shake in lafcpug store? - 14 years agoTotally agree. Not into piracy at all. Not asking my question very well probably either if that's the impression I'm giving. I just wanted to know if there is anywhere to download, and by that I mean legally purchase Shake anymore? So the answer is no. Got it. Meantime, anybody has a copy to sell, I'm interested.by ClayC - lafcpug Market Re: Purchas Shake in lafcpug store? - 14 years agoI meant abandonware in terms of who cares. Your point well taken, though. Not a legal term. Sure, Nuke, it's on our radar for the future. Very similar, low learning curve for Shake users. Only problem is, the price nukes the budget at the moment. We'll get there sooner than later. Was hoping for a Shake solution in the meantime.by ClayC - lafcpug Market |
