Re: FCP 6 and Mavericks - 11 years agoLogic is pretty good it would be the only DAW i would use other than protools. I think you should use the DAW or NLE you can use best. It takes 6months - 2years self training to get into a new DAW and feel proficient enough to do whats needed.by J.Corbett - Café LA Re: Creative Cloud Open Letter - 11 years agoPerpetual Payment Stypes. So i am sitting down on vacation and suddenly i get the notion to work on my old project. Then its time to pay 74.99 if i do not have a subscription. 74.99 for a wild hair is a bit much. That's 7 lapdances or a new pair of shoes. lol They have upp'ed the price since hello. I could easily see a price hike coming and you can not disagree unless you wanted to quit usingby J.Corbett - Adobe Premiere Pro CC Re: External Monitor Nec PA24 vs Nec PA27 / RGB Coverage vs Real-Estate - 11 years agoThanks. I think i am clear now. I am going to get the NEC PA27. It will look nicer with the other 2 - 27" monitors. Output will come from my BM Intensity(soon to be upgraded) and i will use the i1 to calibrate it to BT709 as commercials are my bread and butter. Thanks that was a mini-class on color. I was looking up a lot of what you were saying. Thanks Again.by J.Corbett - Café LA Re: Creative Cloud Open Letter - 11 years agoI have masters suite CS5 and CS6. I love the Production Suite that Adobe makes. However i am not for the CC. Here are my reasons: 1. You must be connected to the internet to use it. 2. Once you have decided to say retire. You will CONTINUOUSLY have to pay Adobe to revisit your projects. Pay til you die. 3. CS5 is still heavily used by editors and image designers as they have become extrby J.Corbett - Adobe Premiere Pro CC Re: External Monitor Nec PA24 vs Nec PA27 / RGB Coverage vs Real-Estate - 11 years agoMan, Thank you for that chart. That really enlightens me. Lets see if i got this mildly correct. I am also 1. so i could live with the out an external if i were using the nec as my main screen. T/F 2. going out of my video card instead of the graphics card (card that cam with tower) is not necessarily better. 3. I should not calibrate the monitor for BT709 and just simply calibrate forby J.Corbett - Café LA Re: Is it possible to gang multiple finder windows together? - 11 years agoQuoteJoe Riggs Ultimately it would be to sync and compare drives. I just like the finder window interface. If you like the finder window there are 3 apps that come to mind for paired windows. Pathfinder - $40USD which is a stand alone replacement for finder but give much more info on a file. You might be able to let the NEC's hardware do the emulation, if the MXO isn't too smarty-pants. Well, I don't know. so it cant be calibrated. I had a editor friend tell me to hold the MXO and deal with my BM Intensity until i knew more about calibration. BM Intensity does output 10bit but no internal LUTby J.Corbett - Café LA Re: External Monitor Nec PA24 vs Nec PA27 / RGB Coverage vs Real-Estate - 11 years agoOk. That help me a lot. I have always thought that the main monitor coming from my ATI was unable to be calibrated to BT.709 via DVI. This is why i purchased the mxo2 and the BM Intensity. I use 2 monitors mainly because i like to edit in dual screen mode. The NEC would be a 3rd monitor as the u2410 is now. FCP treats its output differently than Premier. True/False It seems like someone over at the Premier forum had posted something like that.by J.Corbett - Café LA Re: External Monitor Nec PA24 vs Nec PA27 / RGB Coverage vs Real-Estate - 11 years agoI may not be able to be as technical as you in my post because i just started understanding color at a technical level. So i am new but a little bit knowledgeable. From what i have read the lg panel on the 30inch is not in the 24 inch. as the size of the panel goes up the coverage seems to lessen. Not sure if this is true as it is only forum reading i have done. I have narrowed it down to the NEC PS line of monitors. I will not be getting the bundle as i plan on buying an xrite i1Display separately. What i do not get is the different between these to which boils down to Brightness and AdobeRGB coverage. Their response times are only a point in difference. As a general loose rule, when you have mixed frame rates you should tally up the frame rates to see which fps has the greatest number of clips or hours and then convert every thing else to that codec or frame rate.by J.Corbett - Café LA Re: GRAPHICS CARD UPGRADE FOR MACPRO 2008 - 11 years agoATI 6870 (90% sure) ATI 5870 ATI 5770 The Nvidia's mostly need a hack to work on OSX. The budgets they have are completely unrealistic. I tried getting jobs from online for about a year and out of say 100 bids i got 2 jobs. A logo for 40. and a info-video for 600. How would you charge? - 11 years agoI have a client who i did a commercial for about 6weeks ago. Meaning the draft was completed then. I al ways expect there is going to be changes and over 250-ish paid projects not once was there ever more than 6-7 tweaks. My contracts are written based on a reasonable estimate of hours worked on other projects. This gives me the ability to in most cases give a solid flat rate for services.by J.Corbett - Café LA Re: the New Mac Pro...Whatda think - 11 years agoWow. Thunderbolt is nice. Daisy chained screens and still recognized as 2 separate units. Pricey with only one choice of high end screens. strypes: They have not released yet so maybe CUDA might make it in. I just about have tape and Elmer's glue holding my 2007 machine together waiting on this. I do wonder about the PCI slots as i have had a GTX570 in the box for a year now waiting for the newest machine. Most people here hurled me for it. When i saw the layout the 1st thing i thought was where is the viewer, and why not the entire suite (FCPX Studio). Then it sold for like 299. which was a warning in itself to me. Not releasing the entire suite told me that they were not serious about the pro community.by J.Corbett - Café LA sRGB or D1? Which is correct for scopes. - 11 years agoI have been using BCC for CC in premier pro and FCP. The BCC videoscope is quite handy but I have always wondered why D1 showed more trace than sRGB. Most of the footage i use is from HMC150 and the GH3. I believe the HMC is 4:2:0 and the GH3 might be 4:2:2. I normally grade CC in srgb but when i shift to D1 often my vectorscope pops illegal. FCP version is ok but not as good as premier version. And premier version is Not as good as AE. Ae is just better built for effects as a whole.by J.Corbett - Café LA Re: great slo mo - 11 years agoMy son has the GoPro Black and it has pretty good image quality. It fisheyes everything but for action/sports shots i kinda like that. There is some plugins that will fix the fish eye and if you have AE you can reverse a sphere effect to get rid of most of it. However, you may have to increase the size of the frame to get rid of some edges if you reverse the sphere effect.by J.Corbett - Café LA Re: iPad 3 for Color?
