A Lesson on HDD's and Redundancy - 13 years agoI purchased a Seagate 1tb hdd, 1.5 years ago, for internal use. I normally use Hitachi and Samsung F-series. I ran it JOBD with media from 2 projects on it. One project was complete and the other is ongoing. Last week after finishing a project it failed. I had no back up. So the final project was lost with its failure. Now i have to re-film and re-edit for free. ( never use them again) how ever i have a 750hdd that hold back up system info. can i just stick a new drive in the slot and push the old info to that drive? Will final cut cross read that disk and connect my project assets?by J.Corbett - Café LA Re: OT: Program Usage Monitoring - SOLUTION FOUND - 13 years agooh it has an option for pausing it for lunch or until the next day. i think that this is adjustable but i only use the pause until tomorrow option and 1hr lunch.by J.Corbett - Café LA Re: OT: Program Usage Monitoring - SOLUTION FOUND - 13 years agoI just wanted to report to who ever may want to use a program like this. > It is quite awesome. It monitors all programs used and it does take into account the active window for those of us who may have a bunch of stuff open but idle. It gives really specific stats and it keeps a log so that you can look at the past however long and see your most productive times of the year, month orby J.Corbett - Café LA Re: Getting The Shaft on a Payment - 13 years agoI second Joe. Also, make sure you have a material use clause in your agreement within the terms and conditions. Something that says that they do not OWN the production until FULL payment is made. I normally send the invoice via email and confirm via email that they agree to the execution of the contract. Then i ask if i can drop by to get a signed copy or if they could mail a sign copy toby J.Corbett - Café LA Re: OT: Despite new CPU options, Apple reportedly questioning future of Mac Pro - 13 years agoSoapbox Deployed. I posted this a few months ago. Apple would have been doing this even if Steve Jobs was hiking Everest next week after gaining 15 pounds. I am gonna buy a new macpro in the spring and i am beefing it out as i think that in the next 2 they will move away from macpro. Dumbing them down starting next year. You will need more lenses to get the gusto out of it. mid speed lens / Fast lens / Ultra fast lens then about 3 specialty lenses. My friend has the 5D and we swopped cameras for a test shoot. Its better than both for video and low light noise. It does have as bad of a problem with rolling shutter as the 5d or 7d. I shoots in AVCHD and has nice frame rates. The default lens is very nice in all conditions for all conditions. I would choose the GH3 over both. do a vimeo search to see it in action.by J.Corbett - Café LA Is Mac Keeper a Keeper - 13 years agoI was thinking of getting mac keeper but i am unsure if it is necessary. Thunderbolt is an infant right now and devices have to implement this tech into their products still. But the way that apple has been moving lately, they may go forward with the 'smallatization' of the tower and the peripheral develby J.Corbett - Café LA Apple is Going to chop down the tower so you can fit it in your pocket. - 13 years agoLook we have seen what apple has done to the editing system the changed everything. The turned it into a hobbyist nle. I said on this forum that this put my guard up for what they will do on the mac pros. Now we have some indication of this here: They simplified FCP to run or kinda run with less resources therefore easier to run on a tablet. Not to say i have seen it run on a tablet. Buby J.Corbett - Café LA Re: Correct Encoding Workflow - 13 years agoYes and No You do loose some quality for each compresion but it is negligible. You have already lost the most by starting in mpeg2. I think your process is sound and i can't say too much to make it better. Just do a good CC on it and you will be fine.by J.Corbett - Café LA Crash Plan vs ??? - 13 years agoI use crash plan to back up my main drive. It stores the info gig for gig. I was wondering if there was something that would somehow compress the data to a format that was more like 1g = 512mb or smaller. I just dont see how i can hold the history of 4tbs on a backup hdds that are also 4tb. I mean, i probably dump 5gigs a year. how would i go back? I tried not but.......... When you do not get paid for a job There are only a few reasons in my opinion. 1. You did not have a proper contract / agreement in place before you started. Having a good clear agreement is POINT A. If they don't sign you don't do. 2. You could noby J.Corbett - Café LA Jumping Screen - 13 years agoI have 2x 27 inch screens connected. Over the last week the screens have started jumping. Meaning it jumps about 100px and seems to blink. like old school tvs would do when actuall turning the knob. The screens are new (LG 2750). I am skeptical of Apple's NEXT BIG THING now. I am telling ya, I went to a swami and he said in a reverb and multi-tap delay voice, " Apple will screw up the MacPros.
