Re: FCP is Locked Up - 18 years agoSame computer? But now the error? Could be corrupt prefs. Download FCP rescue and trash them!by Shane Ross - Café LA Re: Need help with the blacks in FC3 - 18 years agoThose might be the inherent artifacts of DV, that MB just brought out. I have the same issue with the blue section of DVCPRO HD footage that I treated. No artifacts until I added the filter, then BOOM. Big as day.by Shane Ross - Café LA Re: Online question - 18 years agoStandard def is Digibeta, Beta, DVCAM, DVCPRO 25, DVCPRO 50, 3/4", VHS, hi8, etc. The Panasonic Varicam is HD. DVCPRO HD (DVCPRO 100) You said: "1 hour 50 minute HD movie (DVCPRO50 - 24 frames)" Thus, Standard def. BUT...the G-RAID is PERFECT for DVCPRO HD footage as well. Works just fine for me. It will suit you fine... $550 at B&H. WELL worth it.by Shane Ross - Café LA Re: Question about HDV - 18 years agoOK. As long as you shoot 720p30...and avoid the 24p setting, you should be fine. FCP cannot see footage shot 24p. Other than that, it should be fine. Oh, and get FCP 5. It is the only version of FCP that works with HDV natively.by Shane Ross - Café LA Re: HELP! Timeline won't play - 18 years agoWell...that sounds like the newly installed QT might be the culprit. Never ever EVER, under ANY circumstance, upgrade in the middle of a project. Ever. Now you see why. When you do install the new version, you need to do one of two things. 1) Follow these instructions to a "T" - 2) Install the new OS, new version of FCP and QT on ANOTHER drive...not your current system drive.by Shane Ross - Café LA Re: Digital stills as Movie Frames - 18 years ago"So Whay you're is to creat" So what you're saying is to create...? Kinda. When you import all the stills off your camera, put them in a folder. in FCP, import that folder...it will create a bin with all the pics inside. Again, first change the duration of your imported stills to 1 second in your preferences. Black background...by that do you mean a black border? That you don'tby Shane Ross - Café LA Re: AJ-1200A output questions - 18 years agoHonestly, if I keep making mistakes and mis-statements like this and I will have to turn in my moderator badge...by Shane Ross - Café LA Re: Firewire output to miniDV - 18 years ago#8 External Monitor Viewing. Shane's Stock Answer #8: A simple path is mac > firewire > camera or deck > rca cables > tv Then start up your camera and tv, then open fcp. Then go View > External video > all frames Video playback should be Apple firewire NTSC (If you are using an NTSC set) Audio playback should be Audio follows Video Techinially, this should send syncby Shane Ross - Café LA Re: AJ-1200A output questions - 18 years agoWell then, I might be very much mistaken. Andrew knows far more than I on this subject. I shall have to see what our post house is doing. I'll wager that they are going out HD-SDI or Composite HD...now that I think of it. I know that the Avid there certainly couldn't do frame accurate outputs, no matter how they tried. Even tried outputting to D5 720p...no go. But one of the editors hereby Shane Ross - Café LA Re: Digital stills as Movie Frames - 18 years agoBring them all into your computer how you would any still image from that camera. they should already be numbered. Change your preferences in FCP to import stills with 1 frame durations. Import the folder the pics are in, select them all then drag them into the timeline. RENDER...render...render.by Shane Ross - Café LA Re: AJ-1200A output questions - 18 years agoWhere did you hear this? Because it is wrong. We have had difficulty with an AVID laying back 720P footage frame accurately, but that is an Avid issue. FCP lays back fine. Don't know about question 2. We only output 720p30 thus far...by Shane Ross - Café LA Re: fcp5 won't boot on startup - 18 years agoI love it when people figure things out for themselves. Makes them feel more accomplished.by Shane Ross - Café LA Re: Exporting to Tape - 18 years agoThis is VERY basic. A simple path is mac > firewire > camera or deck > rca cables > tv Then start up your camera and tv, then open fcp. Then you can either press record on your camera then hit play in the timeline, or go FILE>PRINT TO VIDEO and follow the on screen instructions.by Shane Ross - Café LA Re: ALE From FCP Sequence - 18 years agoWhy ALE? What's wrong with an EDL? As far as I know, as this is they only way I have used ALEs, they are only provided by the transfer facility so that you can batch digitize the film dailies. The only things I have ever exported are EDLs, OMFs and XMLs...by Shane Ross - Café LA Re: no playback in viewer - 18 years agoGo to the top of you CANVAS and click on the %. Set it to FIT TO WINDOW.by Shane Ross - Café LA Re: 7200 rpm firewire 800 powered by Mac? - 18 years agoI like Clarence's answer better. :^)by Shane Ross - Café LA Re: 7200 rpm firewire 800 powered by Mac? - 18 years agoWell, for DVCPRO HD you will need a FW800 drive. As far as I know the powerbook doesn't have a FW800 port...and I don't know if they make a PCIMIA (whatever the abbrev) FW800 card. There are plenty of Fw400 drives that run at 7200 rpm out there. But are they capable of DVCPRO HD? Not in my experience....by Shane Ross - Café LA Re: Still Frames to jPEGs - 18 years agoFILE>EXPORT>QUICKTIME CONVERSION>STILL IMAGE...by Shane Ross - Café LA Re: Do you capture to external drives? - 18 years agoI only suggest that FW 400 drives be used for DV...nothing more. FW800 drives...specifically the G-RAIDS are great for uncompressed 8-bit and DCVPRO HD material. 10-bit they start getting taxed. Then you consider the SATA Raids....by Shane Ross - Café LA Re: Do you capture to external drives? - 18 years agoI am not highly technical, nor do I know the exact numbers, but I do now that USB has a range that it will use...sometimes it will transfer at the low range, sometimes the high range, depending on how much system resources are available. If nothing is happening, transfer is fast, if the computer is doing something, then it will dip slower. Firewire has a sustained thruput. Meaning that it saysby Shane Ross - Café LA Re: Do you capture to external drives? - 18 years agoUSB, while faster than firewire in some respects, doesn't have the SUSTAINED speeds that digital video needs. And there are several types of external drive setups for use with FCP, Firewire is the most basic, and while Apple doesn't support it, nor say it is the best solution, it has worked fine for most people (including me). We use external drives all the time for editing. External Fibrechby Shane Ross - Café LA Re: LCD monitor - 18 years agoOOP! No flipout LCD on the XL1s. My apologies. My GL1 has one, so I assumed... (Bad Shane...)by Shane Ross - Café LA Re: LCD monitor - 18 years agoIsn't there one built in? Or is it broken? How are you shooting if you don't use the viewfinder? Sorry, I am confused.by Shane Ross - Café LA Re: CAN'T load from JVC ProHD 2 FCP - 18 years agoWell then...what is all this about "FCP doesn't work with the short GOP" nonsense that has been going on? Now I feel dumb posting my JVC Stock Answer idea at Apple...by Shane Ross - Café LA Small rack - 18 years agoI will be in need of a small rack in which to attach several components... Deck, capture card break out box, SATA Raid array, UPS. At work I have these half size ones that are about 2 feet high. But they are part of the Avid Console, so it isn't a separate thing. Anyone know where I can get one of these? Thanks -shaneby Shane Ross - Café LA Re: CAN'T load from JVC ProHD 2 FCP - 18 years agoIs the 720p30 then a long GOP structure then? And the 24p a short GOP structure?by Shane Ross - Café LA Re: CAN'T load from JVC ProHD 2 FCP - 18 years agoI had to edit my post. The pro version is (this is worse) $4800 Here is the product overview (more options on left of page):by Shane Ross - Café LA Re: CAN'T load from JVC ProHD 2 FCP - 18 years agoI did find that MPEG Edit Studio Pro (LE is free, Pro version is $1800) works with this camera well.
