Re: Happy Tenth Birthday LAFCPUG! - 12 years agoWow, so in internet years LAFCPUG is like 80 or 90 right? Great site with a great community. Even though I'm more 'lurker' than 'regular' it's still amazing to see how much it has grown. -Andrewby adkimery - Café LA Re: 1080 60i or 720 30fps for FCP - 12 years agoSince it's for a helmet cam I assume there is going to be a ton of movement which makes me lean towards 1080i60 because the higher temporal resolution should translate into smoother looking motion. The downside is that it's interlaced. 720p30 might look to strobe-like or jittery depending on how violent the helmet cam gets knocked around. 720p60 would be ideal, IMO, but unfortunately that's noby adkimery - Café LA Re: Color Calibrating 23" Cinema Display - need suggestions - 12 years agoThe only option is to buy the Matrox MXO (the original one). -Andrewby adkimery - Color Re: Media Manager FAIL! - 12 years agoJeff Harrell Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > I'm pretty sure Media Manager can't remove unused > media from long-GOP formats. Is all of your footage problematic or just certain shots? Over the past couple of years we've MM'ed nearly 600 projects (short and long form) with minimal fuss and I've found the MM to be more reliable thanby adkimery - Café LA Re: Am I better off with DPX? - 13 years agoA downside to Cineform w/FCP is that Cineform is not a 'blessed' codec by Apple's RT Extreme engine which means anything you do to the footage will result in a red render bar.by adkimery - Café LA Re: OT: March 24 lafcpug meeting maybe the last one - 13 years agoThanks for the update Michael. I caught a twitter from you this AM and have been anxious to hear how it came out.by adkimery - Café LA Re: OT: EA SPORTS to sue South Park creators over Tiger Woods Episode... - 13 years agoSeems the rumor is false according to PastaPadre. "In an update to a story posted last night EA Sports has contacted me in order to inform that they have no intention to sue over the South Park episode. The source of the story, Daily Informer, was inaccurate with the posting of the information or just flat out made it up."by adkimery - News and Announcements Re: black-out faces - 13 years agoAndy's Region Blur is sweet. If Matt and Trey can fend off Scientologists they can fend off anyone. -Andrewby adkimery - News and Announcements Re: OT: March 24 lafcpug meeting maybe the last one - 13 years agoWow, the news seems so sudden. I fired off a letter in a vain attempt of slowing down the inevitable but hopefully you guys are able to find a location w/o having to miss a meeting. If possible, something closer to the west side wold be sweet. -Andrewby adkimery - Café LA Re: Purchas Shake in lafcpug store? - 13 years agoI always see a number of copies of Shake on eBay. Not Good... - 13 years agoWow. Umm, well I'm not going to be nearly as articulate as Jeff but I do think a ground up rewrite of FCP is needed. FCP, at it's core, is 10yr code and needs to be updated to a modern code base so it can take advantage of things like being 64-bit, being able to access more RAM (I think 3 or 4 gigs is the limit right now), being able to better leverage all the cores the Mac Pros have, take moreby adkimery - Café LA Re: Uh Oh! Below is from one of this articles: "As stated in my DreamColor monitor review, the DreamColor Engine is very demanding: it absolutely requirby adkimery - Café LA Re: Devil's Advocate asks: Why bother with Color? - 13 years agoYou can do many of the same things in FCP than you can do in Color it just takes more time and effort if you use FCP. I've done both and the mountain of filters, mattes, and stacked video tracks I have to create in FCP just to achieve what I consider a basic grade in Color is just a headache. If I have something real quick and easy to do I'll keep in FCP, but once I got really comfortable workiby adkimery - Color Re: OT: Blu-ray on Macs soon? For example, I've had my Palm Pre since almost launch and if you give me a non-touch screen smart phone I feel lost trying to use a nub/ball/d-pad to navigate around. My initial reaction is to touch the screen and then look perplexed as to why the phone isn't responding to my pokes. I've been spoiled by 2x23" monitors plus a 24" b'cast monitor plus a 15" monitor for my scopes so the idea of working only on a 15" or 17" laptop monitor makes me cringe. -Andrewby adkimery - Café LA Re: Final Cut Server / XSAN - 13 years agoFor a lower cost SAN solution than Apple's xSan check out EditShare and for a less massive asset management tool than FC Sever check out CatDV.
