Since it's for a helmet cam I assume there is going to be a ton of movement which makes me lean towards 1080i60 because the higher temporal resolution should translate into smoother looking motion. The downside is that it's interlaced. 720p30 might look to strobe-like or jittery depending on how violent the helmet cam gets knocked around. 720p60 would be ideal, IMO, but unfortunately that's noby adkimery - Café LA

Jeff, If you are using the AJA Ki Pro it has some metadata bugs in it that keeps FCP from recognizing that there is a Reel number assigned to the clip (you also can't assign AUX TC). Is all of your footage problematic or just certain shots? Over the past couple of years we've MM'ed nearly 600 projects (short and long form) with minimal fuss and I've found the MM to be more reliable thanby adkimery - Café LA

A downside to Cineform w/FCP is that Cineform is not a 'blessed' codec by Apple's RT Extreme engine which means anything you do to the footage will result in a red render bar.by adkimery - Café LA

Seems the rumor is false according to PastaPadre. "In an update to a story posted last night EA Sports has contacted me in order to inform that they have no intention to sue over the South Park episode. Wow. Umm, well I'm not going to be nearly as articulate as Jeff but I do think a ground up rewrite of FCP is needed. FCP, at it's core, is 10yr code and needs to be updated to a modern code base so it can take advantage of things like being 64-bit, being able to access more RAM (I think 3 or 4 gigs is the limit right now), being able to better leverage all the cores the Mac Pros have, take moreby adkimery - Café LA

You can do many of the same things in FCP than you can do in Color it just takes more time and effort if you use FCP. I've done both and the mountain of filters, mattes, and stacked video tracks I have to create in FCP just to achieve what I consider a basic grade in Color is just a headache. If I have something real quick and easy to do I'll keep in FCP, but once I got really comfortable workiby adkimery - Color

Apple wants you to by movies and TV shows from their store. Things like Blu-ray and DVRs are competition which is why, IMO, Apple has not adopted BR and not added DVR functionality to AppleTV. -Andrewby adkimery - Café LA

I do agree that multi-touch interfaces are changing the way we interact w/some devices. For example, I've had my Palm Pre since almost launch and if you give me a non-touch screen smart phone I feel lost trying to use a nub/ball/d-pad to navigate around. My initial reaction is to touch the screen and then look perplexed as to why the phone isn't responding to my pokes. A couple of years agoby adkimery - Café LA

Like Nick, the ergonomics would be the biggest issue for me, but a big monitor and separate keyboard and mouse solves that. I've been spoiled by 2x23" monitors plus a 24" b'cast monitor plus a 15" monitor for my scopes so the idea of working only on a 15" or 17" laptop monitor makes me cringe. -Andrewby adkimery - Café LA

FCP 3 could handle HD but only as Uncompressed or whatever codec came w/the capture card used. IIRC FCP didn't support any HD camera codecs until 4.5 when it added DVCPro HD support via FW. -Andrewby adkimery - Café LA
