Re: Opposite Audio Tracks Playing - 13 years agoUPDATE: Problem fixed but I don't know what caused it. I originally captured my video to two hard drives, non RAID, but when I copied all my clips over to one drive and unmounted the second drive all the audio worked like it should. I don't know if its a bad hard drive or what but problem mysteriously solved. Thanks, Jude for the response. -- Jeffby FilmBase - Café LA Re: Opposite Audio Tracks Playing - 13 years agoWhen I unlock and delete the empty track (A2, no waves) I get the same thing, no audio is heard.by FilmBase - Café LA Opposite Audio Tracks Playing - 13 years agoWhy are my audio tracks playing the opposite of each other? A clip in my Timeline has two mono tracks, A1 and A2. A1 has waveforms, A2 has no waveforms (nothing was recorded on Input 2 as expected). But if I mute A2 (no waves) to listen to A1 (waves) there is no sound. If I mute A1 (waves) to listen to A2 (no waves) I hear my audio. This even happens when I play the clip in the Viewer fby FilmBase - Café LA Re: Settings Not Remembered - 13 years agoTrashing the prefs worked like a charm. Thank you so much for the help guys.by FilmBase - Café LA Settings Not Remembered - 13 years agoI've been working on someone else's machine for the past week and each day I start up FCP, I have to readjust certain settings. Currently all the windows go back to default (not that big a deal since I can load my own layout), Show Overlays is checked, Wireframe is checked, Loop Playback is checked and a couple more. On my own computer I've never run into this issue. Is this a FCP issue or aby FilmBase - Café LA Re: Logging Help - 14 years agoNot everything in the Browser will show up. As I stated in my first post, Markers and Comments in the Markers do not show up. This issue is what started me down the path of searching for a new logging method that can easily show all my notes in a Batch List. Read my post above about searching for Markers in FCP. That's also an issue. -- Jeffby FilmBase - Café LA Re: Logging Help - 14 years agoThanks to everyone who contributed, the ideas you've provided have gotten me thinking on a new approach of logging. In fact, I'm beginning to think my current method of logging might be flawed. As I mentioned, I live for Markers, either frame or duration, for all my clips but when I recently discovered that they don't show up in a Batch List I was floored. It was shortly after this that I discoby FilmBase - Café LA Re: Logging Help - 14 years agoI am too embarrassed to tell you how long (or rather how short) the client wants the video. And I am way too embarrassed to tell you how much (or rather how little) I'm being paid for this. The good news is that its due March 1 of 2011. So, what's the maximum minutes allowed for Short Documentary? :-) -- Jeffby FilmBase - Café LA Re: Logging Help - 14 years agoWow! That's worth well more than 2 Twinkies. I'll see what I've got in the budget. Thank you so much for the insight, Jeff, that really helps a lot. I think I'll give your suggestion a try. I originally was going to scrub thru it and just mark basic visual points with detailed markers in the interviews. But I think you're right, I just need to watch every frame and record what looks good tby FilmBase - Café LA Re: Logging Help - 14 years agoPoint taken, Jeff! I'll redirect the Twinkie to you. I will order it. Where shall I mail the Twinkie to? Thanks again. -- Jeffby FilmBase - Café LA Logging Help - 14 years agoCan anyone suggest a book or website that has good efficient ideas about logging footage? I have a 180 hours of footage (about 3,400 clips) of a documentary someone else shot and captured with no logging info just reel numbers as individual names of clips (Example: China 01-1, China 01-2, etc.). I'm using one of Apple's preloaded Bleach Bypass effects on a single clip but I can't figure out how to make it gradually come in. I can't seem to use keyframes on Color FX unless I'm doing it wrong. -- Jeffby FilmBase - Color Re: Canvas, Color and Calibration - 14 years agoThanks, Shane. I never knew about that QT preference, it made a big difference and helps. "So you are trying to get them in a workflow for QT delivery when they aren't really designed for that purpose." Is there no way to create a professional workflow for QT delivery? -- Jeffby FilmBase - Café LA Canvas, Color and Calibration - 14 years agoRight up front, all the movies I edit and grade are for the web. In terms of the color and contrast of an exported QuickTime movie from FCP, I am unable to get anything to be consistent. The original QuickTime (from HDV) looks different than what is in the Canvas of FCP. The Canvas looks different from what the viewer looks like in Apple's Color. Re-installing 10.6.2 didn't even work. I am having to reformat the drive and install from scratch. It never was the soft RAID as I thought, even though the problem occurred right after I created the RAID. Thanks for all your help and suggestions. -- Jeffby FilmBase - Café LA Re: RAID and Log & Transfer - 14 years agoThanks for the terminology lesson, Gerard. I took Jeff's question as to mean "created" was the wrong word I used. Anyway, back to the issue at hand. Yes, the footage I Log & Transferred on a different computer without the RAID plays perfectly on my soft RAID I created with Disk Utility. No, I am not playing a multiclip back, just the clip I captured. In fact, the originalby FilmBase - Café LA Re: RAID and Log & Transfer - 14 years agoHi Jeff. I'm sorry for my terminology ignorance. What is the proper terminology when taking two 750GB hard drives and using Disk Utility to format as Mac OS Extended with a RAID Type set to Stripped RAID Set and a RAID Block Size of 256k? Any help is much appreciated. -- Jeffby FilmBase - Café LA Re: RAID and Log & Transfer - 14 years agoThanks for the suggestion, Gerard. I tried Log & Transferring with and without the box checked but it still skips. I noticed something strange though. On a clip Im about to Log & Transfer, I'll mark an In point and then hit Shift ? "+" to advance my play head 10 (or 20 or 30 etc.) seconds to mark an Out point. Once I mark the Out point, lets say for 10 seconds, the clip duby FilmBase - Café LA RAID and Log & Transfer - 14 years agoWhy is my HDD footage skipping? I recently created a RAID to handle a Multiclip of 4 ProRes 422 clips. One HDV tape based, the other three Sony HDD Handycams. Yes the specs are correct, at least according to our company tech guy. But he did suggested I setup a RAID. So currently as I'm typing this a RAID is be setup right now for me. The format I'm editing in is Apple ProRes 422. I checked the Data Rate of the clips and they are approx. 15 MB/s. Totally that up with 4 videos thats about 60 MB/s. Checking the specs on my hard drive my thru-put is 70 MB/s.
