Final Cut Pro approximates the gamma of a broadcast monitor when it plays back but Color doesn't, so you're unlikely to get both of them to match. Don't use FCP to judge what your footage looks like.by Jon Chappell - Color

The only legal way for him to acquire the codec is to purchase Final Cut Pro. However, HDV isn't the best codec for effects-intensive work so you'd be better off converting it anyway. I would normally recommend ProRes but he will only be able to read ProRes files, not write to them. Animation or Uncompressed would therefore be better.by Jon Chappell - Café LA

Now that you mention it, the company I encountered with this problem was also using ProRes (albeit 4444). Perhaps the AJA cards don't play nicely with it. Has anyone else had any issues?by Jon Chappell - Café LA

If Crash Analyzer is giving you a different cause each time, that's usually an indication that there is a much broader problem with your system. I have seen this flickering happen before (along with other visual glitches) and it is related to the Kona card. Unfortunately not. To get around this, go to Build/Format and choose Hard Disk as the destination at the bottom the window. This will create a disk image that you can bring into Disk Utility and burn from there, where you can freely adjust the speed. Whenever you change settings and then save the movie, it also saves the current position of the playhead. To stop this, put the playhead at the beginning and press Cmd+S.by Jon Chappell - Café LA

Upon closer inspection, customCodecData only affects certain parameters in that dialog. So it won't update unless you change one of those parameters. The standard parameters in that dialog (keyframe, bit rate, etc) seem to be encoded in plain-text elsewhere in the file. When you click the Settings button next to Video, it pops up a dialog. This dialog is populated with custom fields specified by the codec. The "customCodecData" stores the data from this dialog in encoded form.by Jon Chappell - Compressor - Media Compression and Conversion

There are lots of extra settings in those files that aren't made available to the GUI, but bear in mind that sometimes that is for a reason. Many formats have limitations and changing these settings could produce corrupt files.by Jon Chappell - Compressor - Media Compression and Conversion

The fact that you have at least 178 threads active in Final Cut Pro while dealing with a long-GOP codec would suggest that Final Cut Pro is crashing because it is being overloaded. For best results, convert the media to ProRes. I understand that is not always practical, so at the very least change your sequence and render codecs in Sequence Settings to ProRes.by Jon Chappell - Café LA

That crash has absolutely nothing to do with QuickTime Player. I'll say it again: it's only a player. It's caused by a missing framework, which to the best of my knowledge is unrelated to ProKit. Do you have Final Cut Pro 7.0.3? If not, updating to the latest version should hopefully fix the problem (skip the ProKit 6.0.1 update though).
