Re: Captured .mxf files through log and transfer are in slow motion - 12 years agoThere is a plugin for FCP where you edit MXF files directly with in the timeline (no conversion needed). I use it and have no problems. Or I know there are stand-a-lone converters that can do the conversion to what ever format you want and then edit those files as you normally wood if thats better for you.by jakec - Café LA Re: HDV Capture Problems - 12 years agoIf you are not already doing it this way, then ignore this, but here is the way you capture HDV in FCP. I have a Sony FX1 HDV camera so the steps should be the same. 1. Go to the "Easy Setup" under the Final Cut Pro drop down menu. 2. Choose "HDV" under the Format drop down menu. 3. Choose "HDV 1080i60 under the use drop down menu. Thats all you have do. FCP wby jakec - Café LA Re: Flip 4 Mac Studio Pro HD Issues - 12 years agoIm currently on 2.3.6.5 and everything is working. A couple of workarounds you can try for now is: 1. export to QT first then reopen in QT Pro and then choose Windows Media for your export choice. 2. send to compressor and export to wmv from there. Maybe that can help you for now. Not sure if this will have anything to do with your problem, but I noticed you are still on 10.5. Because depending on the end aspect size and amount of things going on in the video (moving graphics, audio tracks, images etc...) and time length, what one setting might be good for file size and video quality will not be the same for the other. You just need to to some back and forth testing until you find some variation of adjusting that works dependingby jakec - Compressor - Media Compression and Conversion Re: Should I encode to DVD through compressor or DVD Studio Pro? - 12 years agoJust send it to compressor there is no advantage in going to a self contained qt and then dropping that into compressor. All your doing is wasting more time in going to qt first and then taking up/waisting HD space. If you are using the latest version of FCP you can actually continue working once you have sent something to compressor now. Just simply re-bring up FCP and there you go. The actual internal harddrives are good but its the external enclosure that has problems. They can not handle hardcore use especially with video. I would get either a Western Digital or G-Raid. These are both workhorse drives. But also remember any HD can fail at anytime, even right out of the box. So you might want to look into a HD that can be setby jakec - Café LA Re: organising MacPro hard drives - 13 years agoFirst never keep any type of files on the Main Macintosh HD. Just applications because this HD is already running OSX and the app's you are using as well as if it crashes all you lose is your programs and have to spend a little time reinstalling everything. Always keep you working files on additional HDs. For the hard drive topic It really comes down to what you have had the best luck with. And for me It definitely is not Lacie. Everyone Ive had has completely crashed with in 3 months. The FW converter could be causing something. Just keep things as simple as you can with video. 1080i50 is for PAL 1080i60 is NTSC. You have a lot more control over settings. For Example. You can choose to export straight to ProRes or what ever you want because it sees all the codecs installed when you have FCP installed. This is what I use for non-copyrighted dvd's. If it is a copyrighted disc then you have to use Handbrake to first convert to get by the copyright lock. Know from experience ($2000 in hd recovery fees). Use Western digital or G-Raid. Anyways it's fine to daisy thru a hd to capture video but better to connect direct to computer. Less links in the chain for problems. Now for capturing in fcp. Where did you get this tower? And how old is it? Anyways if you really a have a MacPro Tower and are doing video editing, first thing is you need much more then 3gigs of RAM installed. Here's some tips on what you need to do and know. 1. I have it set up as a Raid5 with 6TB of storage. The way this is set up works is it has seven 750GB HDs witch information is striped across 6 of them and one is used for a kind of a backup. So if one drive fails you simply pull that one get a new one, install it then rebuild it to resync with others and oby jakec - Café LA Re: codec issue - 13 years agoJust to recap. As mentioned make sure images are RGB and save either as a jpeg or tiff if you need transparency in a cut out image. For dimensions of images for the 4000 limit the other person is mentioning is refering to the pixel dimensions not size by inches. Also make sure the dpi is no higher then 72. Now for exporting your video you don't need to export with the prores codec unless you aby jakec - Café LA Re: Anyone editing FCP 7 on a iMac, Quad Core. How's it compare to a Mac Pro Quad Core? - 13 years agoAn iMac will work. But it's not as expandable as a MacPro Tower. For example a MacPro can hold over 32gigs of RAM. And you can change out the video cards for better ones as they become available and are of course compatible with your current system. Basically if you can get a MacPro that's what you should do. As you probably know video editing/motion graphics takes alot out of a computer. Soby jakec - Café LA Re: Flip4Mac Help - 13 years agoTry this. If you are exporting directly form the timeline direct to .wmv sometimes can have issues with the WMV codec. Try exporting as a QT using the H.264 with HiQuality settings then reopen that QT in QT Pro and then reExport as a WMV. This way everything has been flattened and there is less to process in the conversion. Also pre-rendering the timeline before exporting can make differby jakec - Café LA Re: Quicktime Pro not compressing video - 13 years agoI understand what your saying but when using h.264 this file should not be more than 500 megs at the most. Its acting like i'm using prores or animation as the codec. I didn't specify a certain data rate. I just adjust the quality slider anywhere from medium to best, then choose single of double pass, and then change the audio to AAC Stereo. I am using FCP Studio 3 on MacPro Late 2008, 10.6.4. I go to export my video (1440x1080) 11 minutes in length thru QT Conversion like I always do using the h.264 compression but for some reason its not actually compressing the video. It completes export fine but file size is around 6 gigs no matter what quality I adjust to. So I reopen in QTby jakec - Café LA Re: working with stills and send to motion - 13 years agoDon't use the send to motion function because as you can see rendering takes forever. It is much easier to export a still frame as jpeg or what ever format you want use. Then bring that into motion to do your movements and tricks. Render that out as QT then bring that into FCP. Depending on if you are using Motion 3 or 4, Motion 3 uses Animation Codec as its default and Motion 4 uses ProRes 4by jakec - Café LA ProRes 4444 from Motion - 13 years agoOk so here is my problem. I built a 3 minute video in Motion4 exported as ProRes 4444 with no alpha, (a process I do everyday and always works fine). Then I imported in to FCP to add with other video encoded with same codec or ProRes 422, everything plays fine but when I try to export using QT conversion I get two different errors from the same timeline: 1. I am a video editor for marketing agency and I use everyday. You know for the unfortunate people that have pc's. You can export right from FCP to windows media, as well as in QT Pro.by jakec - Café LA |
