FCP 7.03 works ok for me on Yosemite 10.10.5 which was a bit of a shock. But I reckon that the end is nigh. Nevertheless, it's entirely possible that filmman could answer this query in more vivid detail. Hugs, Harry.by harry323 - Café LA

Dear stefangs, It is true that you have to be half a mile away from the screen to avoid spill. Two miles is the ideal distance. However, I agree with Nick about backlighting your subject. But then you may lose the power of the sun shining directly on your screen, right? But that's better because the screen will reflect less light on your actors. " I did just that and am surprised, thanks to you personally, that I find it remarkably good (compared to FCP7). Strypes!!! Whoah ... Great to hear from you and thanks for the reply. As you can see, I am putting my toes in the Premiere Pro waters. I'm not in a great rush, but I certainly like the idea of being able to cut multiclips shot with different cameras and codecs without having to transcode. Hi there, I'm attempting to install Premiere Pro CC 2014. I'm a long time FCP 7 user now deserting the ship. Am running the demo version of Pre Pro CC 2014 on a Mac 2,1 2x3Ghz (8 Core) under Lion 10.7.5 On advice of both Adobe and Nvidia I bought a reconditioned Nvidia GeForce 8800 GT (Mac version) because this will run ok on my old Mac 8 Core (2,1). I've shot some material in a Canon Vixia HF 200 cheapie camera using the AVCHD MFX 60i/PF24 setting. But, no matter which program I use to shoehorn it out of the camera, it transfers as 29.98i. Canon initially told me that iMovie was the recommended way, then changed their minds. So I have tried Final Cut X, Final Cut Pro 7.03, and ClipWrap, but all of these give me 29.98i. I bought SuperDuper. $28. It does timed backups in the middle of the night like a secret agent which is rather surreptitious and exciting. It will back up different drives to different places on any day at any time and the whole thing works fine. The email support is very good. I think it's a one man band operation. Now I just need a few jobs so that I have something to back up. Happy Neby harry323 - Café LA

Hi Loren, Thanks so much for the advice. My USB drives are not for live edits - just for "deep storage". My exciting shiny new 4 bay toaster has SATA drives which I will use for backup. And I am pleased to report that I am able to use this toaster with additional SATA drives which work for live editing because, according to the Blackmagic Speed Test application, I can get a very respby harry323 - Café LA

Hail, O Happy Editors. I speak to you this evening as one of the last survivors of the FCP703 holocaust. I have just bought a 4 drive toaster and a bunch of 3 TB SATA drives. Ladies and Gentlemen, Yesterday, on a shoot, my old Dell 2405FPW's HD monitor screen got dinged. It's a 24 inch that came out around 2005/6. I have a Blackmagic DecklinkHD extreme card. I'm on a Mac 8 Core in FCP 7.0.3. I called Blackmagic for advice but they were understandably unwilling to recommend anything. They did say that a Dell 2413 is a bad idea because it is DVI and I would havby harry323 - Café LA

Good morning, Happy Editors. I've never used Batch Export before and am following instructions which I think are correct. But the processing seems to take FOREVER. I have a bunch of clips in a Timeline. I drag them over to a new project file. I highlight them. I go to Batch Export, choose destination and format etc and then hit Export. Thanks for ther reply, Nick. I think I've got some damn setting screwed up here. Sometinmes it will make a reference file in 10 seconds and somethes it takes as lkong as it does to make a real QT export. I will have to do some tests to estab;ish precisely when it is doing them properly - trouble is that I very seldom use them - only for Pluraleyes Multiclip. Give my love to Cambodia. Why on earth do my Qt reference files take so long to export? I sync up my stuff in Pluraleyes. It works. Then to make a Multiclip, I export each video and audio track separately as a Ref Movie (and NOT as self contained, which I uncheck). Example: one video/audio track: it has 8 shots strung out over a 1 hour 15 minute timeline. About half of that is blank space and half is pic+audio. Aby harry323 - Café LA

Good evening Ladies and Gentlemen, I have been given a couple of MTS files to edit. Is there a reliable cheap way to transcode these files? I have discovered that MPEG Streamclip doesn't want to do this and they are un-importable into FCS. Not terribly keen to pay for new software for one tiny little job, but if I must then I must. I need closed captions for an 84 minute educational documentary. I am receiving hideously high quotes from vendors. This is a very low budget film for the educational / college / music teacher market. I am prepared and have found out how to make the captioning file using a program called Transcriva 2. If there MUST be a change, I would prefer that the FCP "Classic", FCP X and all other Apple stuff like Compressor, Motion, iMovie and related hardware (such as Apple news) plugins and stuff like that be kept on the main Cafe LA NLE board. This main board would also be open to questions about the Mac OS and problems that relate to editing on a Mac. Then the 2nd Cafe could be devoted tby harry323 - Café LA
