XML and Encoding - 13 years agoI'm being considered for a video encoding position that I would very much like to get. It is for a TV network. I've used Compressor, Sorenson Squeeze and MPEG Streamclip mostly. Do you know what I should be prepared to encounter at a major network? Also, they mentioned using XML. How is XML used for encoding video? Any help is greatly appreciated.by ergalthema - Compressor - Media Compression and Conversion Re: Export/Render Errors/Glitches - 13 years agoThank you all very much! I tried trashing prefs and making sure it was full render. No difference there. The solution was Derek's suggestion of exporting the source clip from FCP and reconnecting to the new version. Quite a workaround, but it worked!by ergalthema - Café LA Re: Export/Render Errors/Glitches - 13 years agoThanks for your reply. The problem with the through edit mark is that it is there not only when the adjacent clip is at a different speed (and that seems wrong), but also when I remove frames from the adjacent clip and move it back against the other (then the adjacent frames aren't even consecutive). I'm pretty sure I was rendering all (and wouldn't that happen on export anyway?). There areby ergalthema - Café LA Export/Render Errors/Glitches - 13 years agoI have done everything possible to make sure that my assets are easy for FCP to process. All the stills are RBG PNGs and I used MPEG streamclip to convert all the video to DV. I have a few video tracks at times with varying opacity and I did simple slo-mo by cutting clips and changing the speed (however, they still have "joint through edit" icons). The video gets out of sync and does glby ergalthema - Café LA Re: How to reduce Render Time - 14 years agoGood points. Thank you! (and, Strypes, I checked out your nice post about using Media Manager to transcode)by ergalthema - Café LA How to reduce Render Time - 14 years agoHello, My boss wants me to get as much info as I can about possible ways to increase the speed of rendering in FCP. I assume that the most important aspect is processor speed, and that if the computer works fine it's not worth upgrading the processor just for rendering. But I want to see if anything else can be done to reduce the time it takes to render. We use XDCAM and some kind of pro AVCHDby ergalthema - Café LA Formatting for festival submissions - 14 years agoIs there a standard for how DVDs are formatted when they are to be submitted to a festival? Instant play? Menu? How about a slate or bars & tone at the beginning of the video? I know nothing! If there are options, I'd like to keep it simple. Thanks!by ergalthema - DVD Studio Pro public domain footage? - 14 years agoThis isn't specific to FCP, so I apologize if this is breaking any rules I haven't read. Does anyone know where I can find info about what types of video footage (if any) is ok to use in my own work? For example, I am making a marketing trailer for a product. They might want to show brief shots of famous historical events, like a president taking office. Or, can anyone use the famous foby ergalthema - Café LA Re: working with Canon HV20 footage - 15 years agoThanks. Yeah this forum probably isn't a good place for my questions. It is FCPUG, not FCEUG. I have already started learning a lot of stuff I need to know though. She will probably just use HDV in FCE - some people have reported that working fine for them. Thanks again!by ergalthema - Café LA Re: working with Canon HV20 footage - 15 years agoIt's good to read opinions and issues about the subject in question, but there wasn't much help about the best workflow for my friend to edit her footage. It does sound like Pro Res alleviates some problems, while perhaps making things more complicated for her. Again, I don't know much about Pro Res and I'll have to try to learn fast.by ergalthema - Café LA Re: working with Canon HV20 footage - 15 years agoThank you! The hv20.com forum will be a big help. She is using Final Cut Express and would like the best quality possible - she may want to submit the film to indie festivals. I don't know much about Pro Res. Is it related to Apple Intermediate Codec? BTW, where I work, we shoot DV and HDV. If its HDV, I use HDV settings in FCP. Most of our stuff is for the web. But if something is goingby ergalthema - Café LA working with Canon HV20 footage - 15 years agoI'm trying to help a friend. She has a Canon HV20. Specs say that it shoots HD on miniDV. Is this HDV? Also, if working with 19 hours of raw footage, would you recommend capturing at a lower quality for editing and recapturing high quality once the edit is finished?by ergalthema - Café LA |
