Re: suspiciously long render time - 12 years agoWell, did the first render get EVERYTHING? No hint of green? Because there is one green that is very faint, but still requires FINAL rendering. And regular rendering doesn't get that, unless you tell FCP to get it.by Shane Ross - Café LA Re: Additional Video Card - 12 years agoJust because Apple offers it, doesn't mean that it is good for VIDEO work...or FCS. There are lots of other uses for Mac Computers that go beyond video. It will be fine for them, but NOT for FCP. Two video cards is bad for Final Cut Studio...period. You can afford the Quadro 4000? Wow...I can't. Great card.by Shane Ross - Café LA Re: Additional Video Card - 12 years agoDon't get an EXTRA one. Get one to replace the one you have. FCP...and specifically Motion and Color...do not like two video cards. Don't wait for FCP X...unless you plan on using it. and the card you mentioned is good.by Shane Ross - Café LA Re: Shot at 24p...Airing 29.97 - 12 years agoUsing a capture card to output.by Shane Ross - Café LA Re: Shot at 24p...Airing 29.97 - 12 years agoSorry mate...that's DV for you. The format has sawtooth edges. That's why it is a horrid format...the worse SD broadcast format.by Shane Ross - Café LA Re: Is it possible to import a Protools OMF into Final Cut? - 12 years agoAIFFs...that's what I have been getting for years.by Shane Ross - Café LA Re: CalDigit VR Mini RAID Question - 12 years agoMy VR mini is set to RAID 1...and I edit ProRes and ProRes HQ via firewire 800 with no problem. This unit does RAID 1 rather well.by Shane Ross - Café LA Re: How do you create very low quality, small file size Proxy MXF P2 AVC-Intra files that retain time code? - 12 years agoMedia Manager. Use the RECOMPRESS option, and choose OFFLINE RT. This will retain all metadata.by Shane Ross - Café LA Re: Shot at 24p...Airing 29.97 - 12 years agoYes. 23.98 is non-drop frame timecode only, meaning that if you have a very specific total running time target to hit at 29.97 (which IS drop frame), you need to compensate for the difference in time. I explain this issue in this blog post...and offer my solution: And there is a timecode calculator I mention in this blog post: And make sure that Compressor removes pulldown properlby Shane Ross - Café LA Re: "Codec not found" - 12 years agoAHA! Make sure they are all set to RGB, and not CMYK. CMYK color is for print work. And freaks FCP out.by Shane Ross - Café LA Re: "Codec not found" - 12 years agoHave any stills in this timeline? Tiff? JPEG? PNG?by Shane Ross - Café LA Re: Log and transfer issues: SD cards & macbook pro - 12 years agoWhat version of FCP on all the machines involved? What version of QT?by Shane Ross - Café LA Re: How long does it take to cut a feature? - 12 years agoHow fast are you at cutting? How good are you at finding the best takes? Editing a scene together for the best impact? How picky are the producers/director? How much will they tweak the footage? 10:1 ratio? 10 takes of each shot? Ouch. Shot like Napoleon Dynamite (Simple shots, no VFX)...or like Transformers 2 (pretty much ONLY VFX)? How much music editing will you be doing? How mby Shane Ross - Café LA Re: New iMac with 2 Thunderbolt ports = Death of MacPro? - 12 years agoiMacs and Thunderbolt tech make capture cards a BIG possibility. The new AJA IO Express will be equipped with one, as will all the MXO2 line when they get updated. Matrox has a Thunderbolt adapter for their current line. AJA and BMD promised THunderbolt options for their capture cards. There are already high speed RAID offerings from Promise that have speeds exceeding 800MB/s. And they loopby Shane Ross - Café LA Re: X amount per week - 12 years ago5 days a week, based on a 10 hour day. I might work 8, I might work 12. But if I go over 50 hours per week, I say that there will be overtime.by Shane Ross - Café LA Re: Downconvert on the fly - 12 years agoWhich Decklink model specifically? What you are wanting to do is called a CROSS CONVERSION...and most of the models don't do that via hardware, they rely on your computer to handle that. And that means that you might get dropped frames...which would be VERY bad. The AJA Kona cards and Matrox MXO2 cards do this cross conversion in hardware, so it takes the burden off the computer. ONly the BMDby Shane Ross - Café LA Re: How to edit in Final Cut with 3-D avi files? - 12 years agoLook at the workflows provided by Cineform:by Shane Ross - Café LA Re: Archiving with a Drobo - 12 years agoThe only thing I don't like about the Drobo...well, other than it being proprietary, but that ties into this...is that I can't just plop in the one or to drives I need that have the footage I archived. See, I tend to back up projects to one drive, or two...(mirrored to another set) so that I can easily just grab the drives I need. With the DROBO, you need to have all the drives mounted...AFAIK.by Shane Ross - Café LA Re: screen capture - 12 years agoSeconded. YOu can capture, edit and export with that software. Best out there, IMHO.by Shane Ross - Café LA Re: Looking for good 1920s, 30s and 40s Footage ASAP - 12 years agoCorbis.com ... GettyImages.com ... thoughtequity.comby Shane Ross - Café LA Re: Downconvert on the fly - 12 years agoMatrox doesn't capture to H.264... the MAX encoder speeds up the encoding of already captured video to H.264. Just choose the Easy Setup you want to capture as. ProRes is one of them. The BMD card just brings in the video, and FCP compresses it.by Shane Ross - Café LA Re: Issues with XDCam 720p footage in Final Cut. - 12 years agoConvert the footage to ProRes. Use the MEDIA MANAGER to retain the metadata like timecode and reel number. Try one shot to see how it works. Personally I haven't had issues with this format...but I converted to ProRes anyway. Less stress on the computer.by Shane Ross - Café LA Re: OT: Pretty Canon 7D set-up... - 12 years agoYeah, I don't think that's a "point and shoot." Hee!by Shane Ross - Café LA Re: Kona LHi Issue - 12 years agoSlots are counting going UP. So the graphics card takes 1&2. Then three is up from that, and 4 is on the top. You could try Slot 3.by Shane Ross - Café LA Re: Best (or Fastest) Way to Sync Sound in FCP - 13 years agoNot sure if PluralEyes will help with footage AFTER you edited it. But I know and app that will. Designed for people in your situation... situations where editors are lazy and do things wrong. (And I think it will just keep them being lazy...and do things wrong...but, at least it's there.)by Shane Ross - Café LA Re: View Markers in a sequence - 13 years agoNo such luck. Right-clicking on the timeline is the only way at this time.by Shane Ross - Café LA Re: where's the easter egg - 13 years agoHe had to be out out to pasture. Some people didn't think FCP was a "pro app" because what other app has a yak coming out to eat grass? There were many complaints. But, we miss him. He lives on as guardian of the LAFCPUG FAQ WIKI!by Shane Ross - Café LA Re: How long should a half-hr show be for broadcast? - 13 years agoI have seen 21:45, and 25:40...and things in between. Like they say...depends on the network.by Shane Ross - Café LA Re: Vegas into FCP - 13 years agoTypically the ones who "just wanna get it done" don't realize what editing with two completely different NLEs can do to a workflow. Yes, they have someone cutting it NOW, and that is getting done. But then try to get things to work in the main NLE and import and look great...whooops! Stumbling block...time wasted trying to get things working. ANyway, If they are working with FCPby Shane Ross - Café LA Re: Vegas into FCP - 13 years agoGot some poor planning going on here. Trying to mix editing platforms when editing footage for a common end project? Not the best plan in the world.by Shane Ross - Café LA |
