"error: out of memory" on FCP 6 - 7 years agoI'm working with a legacy system FCP 6.0. I have an uncompressed project that I want to re render. The system is too slow to actually play these uncompressed video file assets, but I've rendered the movie before (2008) so it shouldn't be a problem now. The computer has just been in storage all of these years. The problem is that when I open the project file, I can't see the timeline. I go to WINDby Stu_Jaimison - Café LA - X Timeline in FCP not appearing - 12 years agoI can see the canvas and the viewer but the timeline I think is below and off the screen. WINDOWS > TIMELINE is checked. Still no timeline.by Stu_Jaimison - Café LA Scratch capture stops when it thinks end - 13 years agoI was capturing some footage off of a VHS player when FCP's scratch capture tool kept stopping, I believe when it detected noise or dead air "snow". Is there a setting that allows the user to decide when to manually stop recording?by Stu_Jaimison - Café LA Re: Effects for removing blemishes and pimples on actors? - 15 years agoQuoteYou should kick your camera op for not pointing that out during the shoot. On most movies there's several levels of checks. On a low budget movie you'd blame the makeup artist, the director and the DP. Amazing that all 3 missed this. With After Effects I'd copy and paste a small mask of some clear skin, feather the edges, then turn down the opacity as little as needed to make it look unaltby Stu_Jaimison - Café LA Re: Mix aspect ratios? - 15 years agoDisregard this whole post. My DVD PLAYER'S settings somehow got knocked out of whack and that caused the image to stretch. My DVD's are fine. Whew!!!!! Thanks for helping though.by Stu_Jaimison - DVD Studio Pro Mix aspect ratios? - 15 years agoCan you mix aspect ratios on a DVD? I want to have the menu at 4:3 and the main program at 16:9. Will DVD Studio Pro even support this? Will manufacturing houses support this?by Stu_Jaimison - DVD Studio Pro Audio & Video length have to match? - 15 years agoOn a DVD Studio Pro timeline does the length of the audio stream(s) have to match the length of the video stream? I burned a DVD that had an audio stream that was a couple of seconds longer than the video stream and it failed to jump back to the main menu (as authored). It could have just been as a result of my cheap DVD player. Not sure.by Stu_Jaimison - DVD Studio Pro Can anyone tell quality difference @ these bit rates? - 15 years agoI am trying to decide if it's really worth the hassle of moving up from replicating DVD5 to DVD9. If I try to fit everything on to a DVD5 then I will have to encode the show @ avg 5.5, max 7.5, 2 pass. If I go with DVD9 then I will certainly use the highest compression @ avg 7.7, max 9, 2 pass. But in viewing the two I'm not sure if I can see any difference in quality. I think some text that dissby Stu_Jaimison - DVD Studio Pro Compatability with double layer DVD9's - 15 years agoIs DVD Studio Pro compatible with DVD9's? Every time I insert a DVD9 into my drive the tray rejects it, opening the tray. Is it possible that it's just my DVD burner that is not compatible? My MAC is over 3 years old.by Stu_Jaimison - DVD Studio Pro Compressor settings for loudest levels? - 15 years agoWish they had a forum for Compressor. What Compressor settings do you use to get the LOUDEST levels for DVD?by Stu_Jaimison - DVD Studio Pro Re: How many bytes to expect DVD Studio Pro to add? - 15 years agoI guess that explains why DVD Pro's 94 minute template seemingly leaves so much extra space. Yes 4,575,000,000 includes all of my Dolby files, 10 sec menu movie, menu audio, etc. I haven't rendered my 90 minute video file yet, so I will have to recalculate the highest quality setting. Thanks for saving me from wasting 18 hours of rendering.by Stu_Jaimison - DVD Studio Pro How many bytes to expect DVD Studio Pro to add? - 15 years agoI'm trying to make my mp2 file as high quality as possible. I've added all of my audio files, my introductory dvd menu mp2 movie, and my main mp2 program as a reasonable high quality bit rate. I came up with a total of 4,575,000,000. One can fit 4,800,000,000 on a regular DVD. That leaves me with about 125,000,000 left to spare. I am guessing that DVD Studio Pro adds some extra code of some soby Stu_Jaimison - DVD Studio Pro Dolby encoding: 2 sec of silence at start? - 16 years agoI have a movie that starts out with the sound of wind gradually fading in. I encoded a Dolby file but a few seconds of my wind sounds got completely cut out. I heard thru the grapevine that you need to have 2 seconds of silence to start your sound so that Dolby encoders can use that as a reference point. ??? Or should I have a loud sound begin the program - example: a voice saying, "Andby Stu_Jaimison - DVD Studio Pro Scan - Pan based done w/ 1 mpeg? - 16 years agoWhen creating a DVD that has widescreen and a fullscreen choice do you normally create 2 different MPEG videos for each or is the full screen really just a cropped / panned version of the same widescreen (all just 1 mpeg file)?by Stu_Jaimison - DVD Studio Pro How to make button appear at end of 10 sec movie? - 16 years agoAlright I'm a beginner so bare with me. On my menu I want for a 10 second movie to end at (or automatically jump to) a still image with buttons. I don't want the buttons to appear over the 10 second movie. I need for the buttons to automatically appear at the end. How would I do that?by Stu_Jaimison - DVD Studio Pro Re: Post Work Flow - 16 years agoNot sure if you have Final Cut Pro or if you know how to use it. I'd have someone show you how to "log clips". It's mindless work that anyone can do. In 10 minutes someone could show you how to do it. That will save you some money. Log Clips Complete the rough "offline edit" Add narration, ADR, music, cgi, text (credit rolls, etc), Sound FX after which further editingby Stu_Jaimison - Café LA Re: Audio Dropout Fix? - 16 years agoFor a quick fix maybe you could copy and paste a duplicate audio file and move it 1 frame ahead, then cut it up deleting everything but the 1 frame audio dropouts. Then see if it sounds alright. If that doesn't work and it's dialog that you need to replace you could also try stretching the time duration of small sections. Might be tedious if you have lots of frames to fix.by Stu_Jaimison - Café LA Re: Favorite / Best free plugins for FCP - 16 years agoJoe's Filters, although last time I checked they don't work with 10-bit HD 1920 X 1080. In 8-bit it might work however.by Stu_Jaimison - Café LA Wide screen frame size? - 16 years agoI have an HD feature (16:9 - 1920 X 1080) that I need to do a scan and pan with to create a "full screen" version for DVD. To set this up within FCP do I simply reset the frame size (under sequence settings) of my widescreen version of the timeline to 1440 X 1080 and then use motion to move the picture around as needed? Also on DVD's that offer both widescreen and fullscreen choices whby Stu_Jaimison - Café LA Re: Compression Question - 16 years agoMemory or disk space? If disk space go to render manager in FCP and clear up space. You're wanting to compress MPEG 2 files using Compressor right?by Stu_Jaimison - DVD Studio Pro Anyone ever done pan & scan? - 16 years agoHow does pan & scan work in FCP? Lets say I want to do a gradual pan from point A in time to point B in time? In After Effects you set a position in and out point and it's as simple as that. I'm not even sure if it can be done in FCP.by Stu_Jaimison - Café LA Best format to export at? - 16 years agoI have in my FCP timeline some uncompressed 1920 X 1080 (23.98 FPS, 16:9) footage. I have tried exporting with Compressor at the "Best Quality 90 Minute DVD" setting (MPEG2 - 6.2 mbps, 2 pass) but the resulting quality is very sub par. I tired rendering the same 90 minute movie into a 15 GB DVCPRO file, then played it real time and recorded onto my Panasonic DVD recorder and the qualby Stu_Jaimison - DVD Studio Pro Re: audio format - 16 years agoQuoteDid you have a proper microphone pre-amp? No I didn't use a mic pre. Come to think of it I instead recorded the same "dropping coins" directly onto my computer (but through a mixer) and it sounded fine using the same microphone. That Marantz has some resemblance of a mic pre but obviously it ain't worth a damn. A lot of cameras including high end ones like the Panasonic Varicam haby Stu_Jaimison - Café LA Re: Quickest means of creating a DVD from a HDV sequence? - 16 years agoI use the Canopus ADVC 110. It uses firewire in from the computer (as you play your FCP timeline in real time). The only negative is that it uses RCA cables to run out into your VCR or DVD recorder. As you may or may not know RCA cables subtract 6 DB of volume. So you may want to render a loudness maximizer (plugin) to your audio before making dubs onto DVD or VHS.by Stu_Jaimison - Café LA Re: La Cie spinup on FCP/Mac OSX shut down - 16 years agoI had a Lacie Bigger Disk Extreme that died and I had to re-online a project. The editor guy didn't have very kind things to say about Lacie.by Stu_Jaimison - Café LA Re: audio format - 16 years agoThe human ear can't tell the difference between 16 bit / 44.1 and 24 bit / 48K. Audio engineers might be able to notice a difference when recording super low frequency keyboards at certain levels. Strive to record at 24bit / 48 K but not a big deal. You can always up convert from 16 bit / 44.1 (CD quality) to 24bit / 48K if you want. I used to have a Marantz portable audio recorder and when recby Stu_Jaimison - Café LA Re: Boost low audio level - 16 years agoSounds like ADR'ing might be the better way to go. These noise reduction softwares usually leave "phasey" sounding artifacts. Whoever ran sound for you was no soundman.by Stu_Jaimison - Café LA Re: controlling audio levels during capture - 16 years agoWhat are we talking about? Capturing live shoot audio? Or transferring existing audio? For shoots you need a mixer with a compressor (set to kick in only when someone shouts). Lots of compression is generally "bad" for movie sound (unlike music recording). Don't cut corners. Hire an audio guy. Pay now or "pay" later. Besides avoiding distortion you need an audio guy to gby Stu_Jaimison - Café LA Best video file codec for Internet video? - 16 years agoWhat file type are they using to encode video files for the Internet these days? Is there a decent quality, LOW bandwidth file type that I can export with FCP quick time conversion? Every time I export a 45 second file it's a huge 20 megs and the image looks all watery and distorted, whereas I can download movie files off IMDB and Yahoo that look and sound great and don't take up much bandwidtby Stu_Jaimison - Café LA How to change export video default settings - 17 years agoIs there a way to change the default settings of FCP's export settings so that you don't have to keep adjusting them every time? For example if I only use compression "none", resolution "millions", quality highest, etc. OOpps! This is an After Effects question. Sorryby Stu_Jaimison - Café LA |
