FCPX 10.4.4 keeps crashing - 5 years agoHi Guys, Am back after a long time. I stuck to FCP 7 as long as I could - then Apple made it impossible cos support from High Sierra disappeared. After resisting FCPX for so many years, I finally purchased it - and am still in the process of learning but it's scary cvos the damn thing keeps hanging/freezing with such regularity that I don't want to even touch it. So, please help. I'm using FCP 7.0.3 with iMac 27" (3.3 Ghz i5, Retina 5K, Mid 2015) El Capitan 10.11.6. Been shooting XAVC on Sony PXW-X70 camcorder and transferring to .mov using Brorsoft Video Converter. No trouble till now - when suddenly on the timeline the sound for a particular section of the clip disappears. Just can't understand how this happened. I haven't touched the preferences in a hundred years and have in the last eight months turned out six films with files of between 24 and 55 GB ! But this is resolved and I', alive again. Thanks a ton. Feels good to get back to LAFCPUG once again and get such prompt responses. Have shot on Canon 305 and Sony PMW200 and also some HDV on the Z1. Converted all footage with sequence setting of Apple ProRes 1920/1080 422(HQ) and have edited without any glitch on my one year old IMac 27" 3.2 GHz Intel Core i5 with 16GB MHz DDR3 and OS 10.8.5 and FCP 7. Now have a finished 52 min film. When I tby Pankaj Butalia - Café LA Sony PMW200 and FCP - 11 years agoHi, Need to shoot a doc in full HD 50 Mbps / 4:2:2. Am thinking of buying a SonyPMW150 or 200 to replace my old Z1. Is there any issue capturing these on FCP ? I need to know before I decide to go in for buying either. I am so far working with a G5 and FCP 6 but can move up to a new Mac and FCP X if required. Since I'll be doing the editing myself, I need something hassle free.by Pankaj Butalia - Café LA - X Re: HDV batch capture and copture now - 16 years agoI had 74 GB free on a 200 GB hard disk. I have 20 hours already but that is divided on two hard drive. This drive, which I've made the scratch disk for the current capture, has about 50 GB of the film. The rest is on another internal hard drive. I've finished the current work by laboriously batch capturing shot by shot. That way there is no problem and I can capture as much as I want from a tapby Pankaj Butalia - Café LA Re: HDV batch capture and copture now - 16 years agoMust add that I've just spent two days trying to resolve my general error problem ... finally had to trash all preferences and reload them. Could something have gone wrong here ? Pankajby Pankaj Butalia - Café LA HDV batch capture and copture now - 16 years agoHi ! I've a G4, FCP 5.04, have shot on Sony FX1 in HDV mode on mini dv tapes ... now I can't capture cos whenever I give a batch capture command it splits up the listed footage into individual shots but is unable to capture more than the last one ... gives an option of cancel or continue ... and then just hangs ! Am through with 75% of the film ... need to go through the last 21 minutes this morning ... will handle the dissolves after I've lined up all the shots ... shouldn't be a problem. In fact I may be able to improve on the quality of dissolves because they exist as complete shots on the two rolls and give me a flexibility which dissolves on neg film never really gaby Pankaj Butalia - Café LA Re: Making DVD from 16mm A & B roll tele cines - 17 years agoThanks Andrew, followed your advice, the museum curator sprained his thumb, and promptly rejected a film he'd been so keen to screen. With friends like you ... we can go far. But thanks anyway. I think he misunderstood my intention because I forgot to enclose the smiley.by Pankaj Butalia - Café LA Re: Making DVD from 16mm A & B roll tele cines - 17 years agoIt is ... I've gone through 25 % of the film in about two hours ... not bad. > Can finish in a day. As Nick says, it's very much a manual thing ... so I've reconciled myself to working shot by shot. It'll take a day or two but it's something I find free of potential trouble. Was hoping for something that was labour saving but will live with this.by Pankaj Butalia - Café LA Making DVD from 16mm A & B roll tele cines - 17 years agoI couldn't find this one on the search and I'm scared you guys may not have a solution to it : I'd shot a film on 16mm fifteen years ago. The neg is now in a shambles but I have a good digi-beta telecine from the negative from which I've captured the entire film onto my FCP 5. Now I've run into a slight problem : the film was edited on A & B negative rolls ... with one blank in between eaby Pankaj Butalia - Café LA Capture HDV onto FCP 5 - 17 years agoSorry for sending this again ... but it got tailed to an old message and I'm worried no one will look at my question at the bottom of that one ... hence am repeating it. Sorry again ...
